I have always wondered why there is such an overwhelming response to actors (males) portraying angst...anger...hurt..crying ...
the tragic howl or cry or just emotional tear filled pleading lost look...
Does it call to the mother in the female audience...does it expose the vulnerability of the charactor that the female audience falls in love with...and one tends to extend that to the actor proclaiming bravo he acted so well...
In my opinion...tragedy crying, anger are easy to enact ..taxing physically may be ...but easier to project and connect with ones audience...
on the other hand ..humor (and not the slapstick kind)..is much harder...to laugh and not look ugly laughing (cos when one is crying no one is judging ones face)
to have your audience laugh with you, rather than at you...
I am yet to see an actor in a main role do that with panache..come to think of it I am yet to see a character (protagonist) that is even mildly so portrayed...
Is it a lack of story, audience reception or actor ability?
