I think serial makers need to be more sensitive when they show suicide as the only way out of a bad marriage.
I too feel that for a mother to knowingly take her own life, with her child watching, means that either she was so self absorbed in her misery that she couldn't see beyond it, or that she was suffering from depression.
In both cases to singly make her a martyr and her husband the sole villain is incorrect and sends out a wrong message.
I did not find any evidence that in the original novel his mom committed suicide, if that is true, then the makers have added it just to justify Saras's aversion to marriage - that's taking an easy way out.
