True Point.
But Likeable characters and performance have a strong correlation to one another!
One can't possibly like a character that was performed bad... I guess at the end it comes down to which character out of the better performances connected to us/audience better.
For me, the lighter ones tend to stick for longer, since I would prolly watch a Jab We Met ten times more than a Chameli or Dev.

Sadly they do, I always liked Reese Witherspoon but I met her 2 years ago and she is so arrogant in real life. Hence, I have stopped enjoying her movies as I used to before😕.

I do believe restrained performances are harder to do. When the whole world went gaga over Kareena's performance of Geet, I somehow liked Shahid's portrayal of Aditya better or atleast on par. Geet was an awesome character and Kareena was bang on but somehow Shahid's Aditya was quite underrated.
Give me Prem of HAHK and HSSH anyday over Dabang's Chulbul Pandey. Chulbul Pandey has charisma but Prem had that sincerity.
In general the OTT roles have started to annoy me. Looking forward to more restrained characters in forthcoming movies.
Good topic👏

If there is no character, where does the performance come from? The Moon?

I don't know about you, but we--humans--relate to characters first, then we think about the specialties in them. I related to Geet from JWM first, and after that--everything she did became more and more warm for me. If there is no character, there is no performance.

People have a twisted view of performances. It's not about HOW you act, it's where that act comes from. Unless there is a strong character, acting is nothing but mimicking.

Well yes.. I mean a lot of good performances happen in non commercial films and not a lot of ppl watch films like Chameli or Raincoat or Chandni Bar.

Reason why Geet is a cult fav and ppl still love her was because Geet was hilarious, entertaining, film was good, bebo's portrayal of Geet was mind blowing; perfection!

I don't find anything special about Kajol's perf in DDLJ.. but the film was popular I guess that's why her character is also well known
