Well, the novel was written during and set in regressive times...
Actually not.. that period also saw national uprising against the firangi satta...a
We live today in a freed nation but remain bound in mind and action. Considering Indian women continue to be disrespected, dishonored and dismissed off in India Shining of 21st century , we are living in far more regressive times...khap panchayats and their rulings of honor killings are a reality to this day...Saraswati Chandra toh phir bhi work of fiction hai.

P.S: Rode's entourage include 3 make up dada's, 2 hair dresser's- one behind the 'not-a-hair out-of-place' head and one for his brows..last known that chap mowed lawns...and finally one spot boy to serve him jamaalghota at regular intervals..that forever pained expression he sports has no other plausible explanation.
Edit:
I read somewhere SLB's planning a 1000 odd episode saga.. time kuch zyada hi accha pass ho jayega aapka..đ
