Episode 17A: aar ya paar….tumhe waapas aana hi hai….

The words from Riya had literally stopped the world around him for a few moments…..He didn't know what was going around…..What did she mean by that? Had she taken his angry words way too seriously??….so serious that she opted the second choice he gave her….

Was it so easy for her to go away? He wasn't feeling guilty now….all his guilt was flowing away…..

All he had now was a sense of rising anger in him…..Going away from him was so simple for her…..That could only mean one thing…..One plain truth that she never loved him….as simple as that…..

But again, his heart betrayed his thoughts….then what was all that?? Her dream like confession of her love to him just before their wedding….and the night when she wasn't in her senses…..She had let out all her deepest desires for him…..Now why was she doing this? All the drama and then this walk out! What the hell was she thinking when she nodded to marry me…….

Damn Riya! You cant walk out like that…..not after stirring such a storm in my life! Never will I allow that….you have to come back! And yes, I need answers…..if you don't have to the guts to tell me what the problem is, then I will have to take matters in my hand….I never wanted to interfere in this…I had hoped that you will tell it to me some day but I guess that's not what you want…

So from now on, I take my ways…I have waited enough hoping that you would come running back into my arms but not any more….lagtha hai time aagaya hai ke main apne tareeke apnaavum aur tumse deal karum…

He picked his phone and dialed someone "haan...Shree….ready rehna….i will pick you in half an hour….

He didn't give any explanations….he cut the call and thought to himself "kisi aur ko humaare baare mein nahi bathaana chahtha par ab lagtha hai ke…….Shree can help me out in this….only he can…..tumaara best friend jo tehra…"

The entire household is worried about Riya leaving…..All have their own doubts but don't voice it out openly….Arjun's mom decides to wait for a few days before interfering in the matters of the husband and wife….even if it concerned his son and DIL, she had to keep away from their internal problems…..she would deal with it if it gets worse, she thought to herself…she would give them both time to solve it amongst themselves first…..

Half an hour later…

Arjun was unusually silent that day and Shree could sense his anger and tensed state of mind from his brother's face….and yes, he knew the reason as well….badi maa had called him up in the morning to inform about Riya going to her mom's place all of a sudden…….

Shree had been trying her phone ever since and it remained switched off…..He was mentally scolding his best friend from morning for causing so many problems…….

Shree waited till Arjun opened up by himself which he did soon after stopping the SUV at the side near their office…."Shree…mujhe tumse kuch information chahiye…..[after a pause as Shree looked on] Riya ke baare mein….."

Before Shree opened his mouth, Arjun snapped him "wait…mujhe pehle bolne dho…don't ask me reasons….bas mere sawaalon ka jawaab dho.."

Shree: haan poochiye na bhai….anything for you….

Arjun came to the point directly…."kya RIya ka koyi affair tha? kya ussne apni marzi se yeh shaadi ki?"

Shree: [taken aback by his questions] aap…[Arjun stops him]

Arjun: shree….koyi sawaaal nahi…..bas jawaab dho…

Shree: nahi bhaai…RIya ka koyi affair nahi tha….college mein bhi nahi tha…..agar hoti, toh zaroor mujhe patha hota…..aur aapse shaadi toh ussne apni marzi se hi kiya hai….she was very happy!

Arjun scrutinized his looks at him and he was also convinced of the fact that Riya was indeed happy when she married him….but what happened after that?? Why did she change so drastically?

He snapped out and enquired "Riya ke family ke baare mein kya jaanthe ho?? usske mom aur dad ko main jaantha hoom….par isse zyaadha kuch aur hain jo mujhe patha nahi??

Arjun was acting like a complete cop now digging out all possible clues from all sides…..

Shree: matlab???

Arjun: kuch bhi Shree…usski life mein, usski family mein kuch problem hai kya?? I need to know everything about her Shree…..bohat pehle jaan lena chahiye tha….ab aur dher na ho jaaye….usse pehle, let me sort this out

Shree understood what he meant and he nodded but he didn't know anything much about Riya's family background…..He spoke up after a moment "zyaadha kuch bathaaya nahi hai…..she was always a closed person….college mein bhi zyaadha bolthi nahi thi…Riya ke nana naani Darjeeling mein rehthe hai….aur vacations pe wahi jaathi thi….. ….usske sister ke baare mein ek baar zikhr kiya tha…..

Arjun: sister?? Riya ki sister bhi hai??? par humaare shadi mein nahi aayi thi…

Shree: haan kuch problem hai shaayad……..In fact, she had once, by chance blurted out something about her sister, haan Reshu di bulaathi thi…par jab maine unn ke baare mein poocha toh ussne kuch bahaana karke taal diya…

Arjun: Shree, mujhe Riya ke sister ke baare mein sab information chahiye…kahaan hai?? kya problem hai? sab kuch..

Shree: ok bhai….pathaa lagaatha hoom….

As he nods and starts the SUV, Shree remembers something and speaks up "bhai…ek aur baat hai jo mere dil mein khatak rahi hai…."

Arjun: [turning to him] haan bolo..

Shree: Riya Mumbai kisi Arjun ko dhoondne aayi thi but I swear I don't know the reason! Ussne kabhi bathaaya nahi……bas itna patha hai ke Riya usse bohat nafrat karthi thi….

Arjun was angry now….."aur yeh baat tum mujhe ab bathaa rahe ho….Why didn't you tell me before Shree? Humaare beech toh aise secrets kabhi nahi teh??"

Shree: sorry bhai..mujhe itna important nahi lagaa..isiliye….

Arjun: heights of irresponsibility Shree! Ek cop hokhe aise laaparwaayi!

Arjun furiously strode the SUV into the ETF complex……He was able to connect dots now…..he had his doubts earlier too……and the picture was getting clearer now……..He would have to wait for Shree to dig up on Reshu di now…..once that's done, everything will fall in place……

Now he could understand the reason of Riya's mutterings in her unconscious state!

"Ho na ho…..Riya thinks that the Arjun she was searching for is me…..thats why she hates me"

Arjun was able to fix the scattered pieces of the puzzle into its right places now…..ab bas kuch aur clues and it will all be set! He thought to himself as he stormed into his office followed by Shree….

Shree sat down to work immediately…He knew that his brother would need all the information soon…..till then he wouldn't rest….

Gauri could sense the storm…..so she walked to Shree to offer him help

"kya hua? Aaj bohat tensed ho? meri kuch help chahiye toh bathaa dena.."

Shree smiled as he gestured her to sit…

As she sat, she enquired "aaj sir bohat garam garam lag rahe hai…koyi problem hai kya?"

Shree shrugged at it as he didn't want to spill out his brother's private problems to her

"nah nah…bhai toh humesha hi gharam gharam hai….ghussa toh unka sarr ka taaj hai…..humesha sarr pe hi beita rehta hai…..dont worry too much about that!"

Gauri wasn't convinced…."par phir bhi….Arjun sir bhi tensed hai…tum bhi tensed ho…."

Shree wanted to switch topics as he knew that he couldn't hide it from her for long "Chodo na…[naughtily adds] waise tum itna kyun pooch rahi ho??"

Gauri blurted out, a bit miffed up "tum meri friend ho….tumaari pareshani ke baare mein pooch nahi sakthi kya?"

Shree: [grins] sirf friend??

Gauri smiles as she lowers her gaze blushing….she walks off without giving a reply when Shree calls her "Gauri…..waise tumhe yaad dilaa dhoom ke main tumaare jawaab ka intezaar kar raha hoom….though I know your reply, I need to hear it from you….zyaadha dher matth lagaana…ok?"

Gauri smiles to herself and walks to her desk…

Shree smiles and gets back to his work…..Apart from Riya, another big problem was also tensing him up….Arjun and Sameer's face to face encounter….it was inevitable today…though Shree didn't know what the problem between them was, he was always a witness to the gravity of it…..He knew Arjun bhai couldn't stand Sameer's presence……But today, it was bound to happen…afterall they were going to be part of the same team from today….

Even if they don't like, they will have to move together and work together…..Shree just hoped that they both would keep their professional ethics intact and keep their personal problems away from office! Else it would be next to impossible to maintain a smooth work environment in here…..Fireworks were sure to happen…..only the intensity and noise could be reduced…..

Sameer walks in at sharp time to join his duty…..As expected the welcome from Arjun's side is rather cold but fortunately he keeps his professional ethics intact….……He signs his papers and asks his staff to get Sameer through the introduction and other formalities…..Within him, Arjun was boiling hot and was real furious at Sameer because now he had one more reason added for hating him…….Indirectly, Sameer was the reason for Riya's hatred for him!

All through the day, there are minor tifs and arguments between them but nothing major...Sameer usually, was subdued a bit to Arjun because he knew why Arjun hated him, but in office, he had his strong opinions and arguments which he wouldn't alter for anything…..He was a true professional too….At work, no compromises at all…..

So the investigations went on well….

By evening, Shree had updated Arjun on Reshu di….."bhai, Riya ki behen ka naam Reshma hai….but.."

Arjun raised his eyebrows "but what Shree?"

Shree: usske baare mein zyaadha kuch patha nahi chala….i mean, woh ab kahaan hai? kya kar rahi hai? kisiko kuch patha nahi…kuch saal pehle ghar chodh ke chali gayi thi…..kuch rumours bhi hai ke…"

Arjun: rumours?? Kaise rumours?

Shree: wahaan ke police station se patha chala ke missing case register hui thi par case ab closed hai…..

Arjun: closed??? So where is Reshma now?

Shree: police ka kehna hai ke she might be dead….[he was searching for the right words]...matlab wahaan ke pahaadiyon se shaayad….[pausing]…suicide…body nahi mili! Mere sources kehthi hai ke uss pahaadiyon ke ghirrne ki baadh body ka milna naa mumkin hai……dhoondna tho dhoor, wahaan neeche jaane se bhi darrthe hai……deep pit hai aur intensely forested too!

Arjun: [slowly realizing the cause for so much hatred in Riya's mind…the picture was getting bigger and clearer now] phir case kaise close kiya?? How can they be sure that she committed suicide?

Shree: shaayad unne kuch clues miley teh…..Reshma ki shawl aur usski payal mili thi uss ghadde ke uphri hisse mein! Riya ki family ne identify kiya bhi tha…..wahaan bohat saare missing aur suicide cases aise hi close karthe hai bhai…..

Arjun was twirling his pen letting his thought process to roll around trying to fix up the missing links…..

Shree added "par bhai yeh sab bohat puraani baatein hai…bohat saaal beet gaye….inne ab kyun…"

Arjun: saal toh beet gaye hai Shree par kuch ghaav aise hote hai ke zindagi nikhal jaathi hai parr ghaav kabhi nahi mittha…….

Shree was confused about what his brother said "I know bhai par mere kehna ka matlab hai ke Riya bhi yeh sab bhoolkar aage badh gayi hai…ab aap inn sab baaton ko kyun talaash rahe hai?"

Arjun muttered to himself mindlessly "nahi bhooli aur tab tak nahi aage badegi jab tak usski behen ko insaaf nahi milthi…."

Shree: matlab??

Arjun snaps out of his thoughts "kuch nahi….tum bas uss case ki details aur baaki information mujhe email kardho….."

Shree nods "ok" and leaves…..

Arjun's mind voice: isska matlab saaf hai…..Riya ki behen Reshma hi woh letter waali Shona hai….Sameer ki Shona…..aur Riya ko lagtha hai ke maine yeh sab usske behen ke saat kiya…mujhe apni behen ke gunehgaar samajhthi hai….aur mujhse nafrat karthi hai….[thinking for a moment about how Riya linked it to him] shayad ussne woh letter padhli hai!

[Arjun was clear now…..He had to get justice for Reshma….and prove his innocence to Riya…..He had to get back his love of life…..He had to get Riya back into his life…..]

Almost a week later….Darjeeling…..

'"Tumse kitni baar pooch chukhi hoom RIya?? Kyun aayi ho yahaan? Shaadi ko bas kuch hi din hua hai aur tum yahaan aagayi…..Arjun ke family bohat acche hai…isiliye kuch nahi kahaa…..par isska yeh matlab nahi ke tum kuch bhi karthe raho"

Riya replies without even lifting her eyes from the book "main bhi kitni baar keh chukhi ma…bas aap sab ko dekhne ka mann kiya….toh chali aayi….shaadi karli, isska matlab yeh toh nahi ke main aap sab ko bhool jaavum? Ab aap se milne bhi nahi aa sakthi kya?"

Mom: Riya…tum samajh nahi rahi ho….shaadi ke baadh aise yun hi bina wajeh nahi chale aathe….yeh pati ke saat rehne ka unne samajhne ka waqt hai….tab hi toh tum dono ka rishta aur masbooth hoga….tum mere kehna ka matlab samajh rahi ho na?

"haan maa….woh sab samajh rahi hai…isiliye yahaan aayi hai.."

Arjun's loud reply to her mother startled Riya and she threw the book aside and jumped up from the sofa and turned to face him…..He stood casually at the entrance of her room smiling at her and her mom…..
