CHAPTER 8

Two weeks had went by, after class was over, Kria had caught up with me in the hallways. Her hair was damp from the shower she had just taken, as she lugged a duffel bag behind her. "So, do you want to head back to the dorm and drop off our stuff, then get something to eat off campus?" Kria asked, as we stepped outside. The cold wind nipped my cheeks, as they flushed red from the frostbitten air. "No, I don't think I can make it. I have a History exam tomorrow, and you know how strict Mr. Mason can be." I shuddered. Kria gave me a weak smile, as we entered our dorm building. We headed up the elevator to our desired floor. "Well, I guess another time then. Katelyn's coming with us today anyway, sadly." She puffed, as we stepped inside our small dorm room. Kria tossed her duffel bag on her lower bunk, as she went over to her drawer, taking out a small wad of cash. She turned towards me, stuffing some money in her pocket. "Do you want me to bring you back anything to eat?"

I shook my head. "No, I think I'm going to wait until dinner." Kria shrugged her shoulders, as she headed out the dorm room. "I'll be back soon." I was now completely desolated in my dorm room. It was quiet, except for the faint chatters of some girls who were talking in the hallways. I've already completed all of my assignments for the day in study hall, so I pretty much had nothing to do. My throat suddenly grew dry, as I had a sudden craving for something cold to drink. I flopped off my bed, as I rushed out the door. I made my way down the elevators, and began heading for one of the juice bars on campus. I stepped inside, as the warmth from the heater welcomed me inside. I took a seat on one of the spinning red stools at the counter. The juice bar was pretty much empty, with the exception of two couples sharing a strawberry smoothie in the back table.

"Hey, what can I get you?" the waiter asked. She wore a purple and green, checkered apron, with a logo of the juice bar across the chest. Her brown locks were hiding under a cap, which matched her apron. "Can I get a large strawberry crush?" I asked, taking my eyes off of the decorative menu that hung above the counter. She nodded, as she skipped towards the back of the juice bar. I heard the blender rumbling, signaling that my strawberry crush was in the process of making. She returned a minute later, sticking a straw through the cup, handing it to me. "That'll be three dollars and seventy five cents." She said, ringing up my order. I gave her the exact change from my purse, as she stuck it inside the cash register. I leaned my elbows on the counter, sipping my drink as I did so. The cool liquid ran down my throat, satisfying my cravings. I could feel the cashier's eyes on me, as I awkwardly tried to ignore the fact that she was staring at me. She suddenly spoke, trying to spark up a conversation with me. "So, what grade are you in?" she asked. I stared up at her with surprise, straightening my posture. "I'm in my second year, you?" The girl rubbed the back of her neck sheepishly, as a shy smile spread across her full lips. "I just started my first year, and I'm Taani, by the way. This academy is so confusing." I huffed, letting out an ironic cough. "I'm Sharon." I smiled. "And, tell me about it." She looked up at me with surprise. "You're new here?" I nodded. "I'm from California. I just started this year." She frowned, studying my features carefully. "You look familiar. Do I know you from somewhere?" "Maybe you've seen me from some gossip magazines." I suggested. She chuckled, shaking her head. "No, no. I hate those." She paused. "But, are you famous or something?" I shook my head. "I'm not famous. My dad is." "Whose your dad?" "Guatam Riaprakash." I said as if it were no big deal. Her glossy brown eyes widened, as she leaned over the counter. "Guatam Riaprakash? The guy who's in Runaway Assassin?!" she beamed. I smiled, remembering the time I went to the movie premier for Runaway Assassin with my father. I was twelve, and my dad allowed me to wear heels, and walk down the red carpet with him that night. The movie ended up winning an Oscar, a Grammy, and two MTV movie award. It was one of my father's biggest accomplishments. "It's no big deal, really." I shrugged.

Her eyes widened, as a gasp escaped her lips. "No big deal?! Sharon, your dad-" Taani was cut off by the sound of the doors opening. I turned around from my spinning stool, as I stared at the figure with big eyes. Standing at the entry was Swayam, with pinch red cheeks from the cold wind. He shook his hair out of his face, as his eyes leveled up to mine. He looked just as surprised as I did. "Swayam! You will not believe this! Sharon's dad was in our favorite movie, Runaway Assassin!" Taani squealed from behind me. Swayam's eyes shifted over my shoulder, as he approached the stool next to me, sliding in it. "Taani, don't bother her." He muttered. "Come on, Swayam! Lighten up; we have ourselves a celebrity here!" Taani gushed. I smiled meekly, feeling a blush creep upon my face. "Actually, I prefer not to be called that." My voice trembled weakly. "See, Taani? Just leave her alone." Swayam spat. I frowned. How did Swayam know Taani, and why was he being so cold to her? Taani rolled her eyes annoyingly at Swayam, who stared back at her with his icy cold brown eyes in a glare. "Swayam, don't you have that whiny girlfriend you have to go follow around?" Taani asked.

My eyes widened, as Swayam stared at Taani with his face twisted in a form of indescribable rage. His stared at me briefly from the corner of his eyes, as my face flushed. "I-I think I should go." I said, pushing myself off of the stool. Taani growled, glaring at Swayam. "Sorry about my brother, he's a pain in the ass." I suddenly stopped in my movement, as I stared back at Swayam and Taani with astonishment. Did she just say brother? Swayam never told me he had a little sister! I stared between the both of them, finally noticing their similar traits in appearance. They both shared the same brown eyes, although Taani's weren't as bright and intense. Their skin complexions were ivory and pale. They both shared the same, soft hair, although Swayam's is black, while Taani's is dark chocolate brown. "Brother?" I muttered under my breath. Swayam stared at me curiously, and turned away as soon as I caught him looking.

"Bye, Sharon. Nice meeting you." Taani smiled. "Can I count on you to come back?" she asked teasingly. My eyes were kept on Swayam. "Definitely." I stayed up later than I usually would that night, studying for a History exam tomorrow morning. Kria was already dead asleep on her lower bunk, as I reviewed my notes over and over again. I let out a tired yawn, as my eyes became heavy. They began to gently close, as my head started to sink down. Suddenly, I pinched my left wrist to keep myself awake. I groaned, pushing myself off of my chair. I needed some caffeine to help me keep awake. I grabbed some money from my wallet, sticking my feet in a pair of warm boots. I tossed a thick sweatshirt over my tank top, as I headed out Kria and my dorm.

As I jogged down two flights, I suddenly heard movement from behind me. My heart raced, as I began to panic. I immediately snapped awake, in full caution. I nervously turned my head around, preparing myself to see some psycho killer who wandered around the halls during night time. But, no one was there. I gulped, as I picked up my pace, literally running down the staircases. As soon as I reached the first floor, I began to sprint towards the lobby. Before I got a chance to step out, a hand reached out for my waist, jerking me backwards. My eyes widened, as a hand reached out, clamping over my mouth. I tried to scream through their hand, but it came out as silent muffles. Who was it? Were they going to kill me?

Suddenly, the hand released a little bit, as I took the full advantage to bite down. I gnawed on their hand, as they immediately pulled away, releasing me. I spun around, prepared to take action and shove a fist in whoever the murder's face was.

"Wait, Sharon, calm down!" someone suddenly demanded, blocking their face for defense. I unclenched my fists, just as the person removed their hands from their face. Swayam was revealed, rubbing his right hand with agonizing pain. "Swayam?" I hissed. Right on the side of his hand was a bite mark, where I had gnawed down on his skin. It was red, and you could clearly see the marks of my front teeth. "Why did you bite me?" he asked with irritation clearly in his voice. I was taken aback. Was he actually blaming this on me? "Why were you sneaking up behind me? I thought you were some serial killer!" I cried. Swayam sighed. "It was supposed to be a meaningless prank. You know, it's not safe for a girl like you to be out this late." I began to head towards the lobby, exiting out where the front door was. "Well, I was just getting some coffee." I paused, staring at Swayam with curiosity. I crossed my arms as we walked, obviously jealous of the fact that he was spending so much time with Katelyn. "Well, I'm going to get coffee now. You can head back to your room now." I muttered, brushing by him. I could tell he was hesitating, but he caught up with me. "Wait, I'll come with you." I couldn't tell him that he couldn't come. I decided to remain silent while we walked towards the caf in campus, which was open twenty four seven. The caf was nearly deserted, since all students were probably asleep at this hour. Swayam and I both ordered identical mocha lattes, which had delicious white whipped cream stood above of the cup, drizzled with sweet, chocolate syrup. We took a seat at the back of the caf, where Swayam sat on the opposite side of me. "Are you going to directly drink the burning hot coffee, again, and burn your tongue?" Swayam teased. A smile spread across my rosy lips, remembering the first time we entered the caf together. He purchased me a drink, and I, being extremely stupid, took a sip of it without letting it cool down first. "Maybe I might." I joked, giving him a challenging grin.

He smiled back, as I began to get lost in his pool of eyes.

"I think we should talk." Swayam finally said. Startled and blushing, I removed eye contact with him. "About what?" Swayam took in a deep breath. "About these past two weeks." I curled my lips. "Why do you suddenly want to talk about it now, after ignoring me for so long?" I muttered. I didn't realize how cold I sounded, and I immediately wanted to take back my words. I could see Swayam frown from the corner of my eyes. "I-I don't know." A part of me died inside. I really wanted Swayam to tell me why he wasn't talking to me the first day I arrived home from my vacation in California. He was the one I depended on to make my day better, after arguing with my father, but he left me alone, and went after Katelyn. "If you don't know, then maybe we shouldn't be having this conversation." I mumbled, pushing myself off my stool. I tossed my coffee in the trash, no longer in the mood for some caffeine. I pushed the glass door open, storming out of the caf. I could hear shuffling footsteps behind me, but I chose to ignore them.

"Sharon, stop walking away!" Swayam ordered. I ignored him, feeling enraged. "You can't keep on running away from your problems!" Swayam had gotten a hold of my wrists, stopping me from walking. He spun me around, as my body pressed up against his. My cheeks began to flush, not from the cold weather that was pinching my cheeks, making them frost bitten, but from the fact that Swayam and I were so close. I could hear Swayam's slowly breathing, as he looked me intently in the eyes. "Sharon, what I said back in the cafe came out wrong."

"I don't care, Swayam! Look, I-" He pressed his fingers on my lips, rubbing his thumb on my lower lip. "Sharon, just shut up. For one minute, please. You talk too much." I stayed quiet, as Swayam let out a sigh. "I had a reason to ignore you." I gulped, as my lips burned from where his fingers were at. "Why?" I whispered. Swayam looked away from my eyes, shamefully. "I-I got pissed off at the fact that your picture with Zac Efforn was plastered all over the newspapers and magazines." My eyes widened, as I glared at him angrily. "I can't believe you listened to those Idiotic tabloids before letting me explain!" Swayam nodded his head. "I-I know. I was just pissed because I thought the moment we had at the park meant nothing to you..." I could've slapped Swayam right on the spot, but I didn't. I was just angry at the fact that he actually listened to the media before hearing me out.

"It meant something to me, Swayam." I admitted. "I'm sorry." He whispered, brushing his hands against my cheeks, as they began to flame up again. "I'm sorry, too." I said, as Swayam began to dip his head. I bit my lip, as Swayam's face began to inch closer to mine. My heart began to pick up his pace, as I stared at him wide eyed. Was this going to be my first real kiss? My eyes began to close, as something soft brushed against my lips. Swayam moved his lips in a steady pace, but never trying to force his tongue into my mouth. The kiss was so simple, yet so caring and passionate. I was hesitant at first, but my lips began to kiss him back, as his hands wrapped around my waist, pulling me closer to him. Swayam kissed me one last time, before pulling away from me, looking panicked. I held in my breath, not liking the way his face suddenly grew paler than it already was.

"S-Sharon..." his voice trailed off. I had to stop him before he looked at me as a mistake. "Swaya-" "I-I have to go." He quickly said, dropped his hands to his sides. I clenched my fists, as I watched Swayam run off towards the boy's dormitory. He regretted it.

"You got a ninety six? You lucky B***h!" Kria cried, staring at the double digit that was written in red across my History exam. I nodded lightly, as my eyes wandered around the room. They landed on Swayam, who was talking to some of his guy friends near the back of the classroom. "You must've studied hard last night. I woke up around two in the morning, and found you asleep on your desk." Kria teased, staring at her low grade. "Mhmm." I muttered, not even paying attention to what she was saying. My mind was too focused on what happened last night, Swayam, that cold heartened jerk. How could he laugh off with his friends like nothing was wrong, like nothing had happened late last night? "Sharon? Are you even listening?" Kria asked me, snapping her fingers in my face. I blinked a few times, staring at her with a blank face. "What?"

Kria sighed, rolling her eyes. "I asked if you would mind curling my hair tonight. Rey's taking me out, again." She smiled at the last part. I nodded briefly before turning my attention back to Swayam. "Yeah, sure, whatever." I muttered.
