Possible spoilers ahead, so don't read if you're not happy knowing what happened in the movie and novel of the same name :-)

As those of you who have read up on the story, or read the novel/watched the movie, would know: the original story ends with Saraswatichandra marrying Kusum. Thus I found that the fact it was implied in today's episode, when Kusum jokingly says she accepts Saraswatichandra's proposal if her Kumud does not, suggests one of two things:

1. They are planning on staying true to the ending of the original story and end with Saraswatichandra and Kusum marrying. Not sure how they'd justify this to an audience of 2013, where the reason could not be the same as that in the novel, which was written so long ago. Remarriage and widow-marriage is very common in today's time, and it's wrong to project it as something which should not be done, thus they would have to think of another justification if they did want to keep the ending the same.

2. They just want us to start questioning right away, by dropping in the reference so soon :P

I definitely thought it was interesting for them to bring in the mention into the very first episode. A possible foreshadowing of what may happen later.

3) They will decide depending on audience reaction and haven't decided as of yet.

I'm also quite confident Saraswatichandra and Kusum will not get together in the end. However, I do think they'll explore the angle. They will, though, make it clear how it's not the correct way to go in this day and age...

That was my biggest worry when I heard about this show because I have seen the old movie with Nutan. I did not want to fall in love with this couple and then have the lead marry the sister. Hopefully, they will respect the viewers fondness for the couple and have a happy ending.

i absolutely agree with you... as we say yeh log tope dal ke dekh raha hai... how the audience will react. it all depends on the flow of the story and also one thing is for sure that audience will not take ekta ending...where leads are seperated

The thing is they can not tamper with the basic content of the novel even if they adapt it ..Like he made Devdas and eventhough he adapted it as per his own interpretation, fact is Devdas did die in the end.. So yes Kusum's saying '' meri tau haan hai'' and her mother interjecting her has been shown for a purpose.

ii!! I don't want Saraswatichadra to marry Kusum. Hamesha yehi hota hai, they should bring something new this time.. 😒
