To be in love and to not know you are in love can be quite a tragedy in the long run. Sometimes, it hits you too late that you surrendered your heart to someone long ago. You keep walking , get on with life and your idea of it, hunting for love and solace. But no matter what you do, the big hollow space in your heart does not fill. You don't know what you are so desperate for and when you do, it hits you like a punch under your jaw , shaking up your every single nerve. This is worse than being in love and burning inside. In the latter case, the lover at least KNOWS what is hurting them.
Zoe is in the former category while Asad is in the latter category. It is made so beautifully obvious in their scene last night. Zoe has always been a person of compassion and care , going out of her way to help whoever is hurting - but she has never attached the kind of intense emotion with anyone that she does with Asad. And as we walk on in this story, the degree of this emotional bent and fixation of this viscosity for Asad keeps rising.
When Zoe enters into his room with coffee and cookies, she is just as emotionally shaken as Asad. But when she looks at his face and his complete isolation, for a few seconds in there, something inside her shudders. Her face goes through a myriad of emotions and she realizes that she has to pull Asad out of this misery and not drown in it. She tries to be all chirpy and cheerful , trying to get back to their playful banter , but when he does not respond, you can see just how vulnerable and sensitive she is about him - her face begins to crumble again and this is when her emotions come rushing to the surface. The central point of this scene is not what Zoe told to Asad... its HOW she spoke to him. Watch that scene . After the initial counseling of Asad, Zoe was no longer counseling and explaining - her own voice failed her so many times, she couldn't talk, words wouldn't form properly in her mouth , her face cracked and as it always happens with Zoe as far as Asad is concerned, tears came gushing to her eyes.
Zoe had come to pull Asad out of his misery but her feelings for him made it impossible for her to stay outside that misery. Its worth applause how the creatives and the actress in question made the dialogue of Zoe to Asad so difficult to deliver - especially her voice cracking while speaking to him. She wanted to do something desperately, anxiously to get a reaction out of him, to make him talk to her. The depth of emotions and her honest expression of it were windows into how attached she is to him. To a point where she has blind faith in him and unconditional attachment to him.
For Zoe, Asad symbolizes strength, faith and security. Like she told him last night, her heart is convinced and believes that Asad is her backbone, her Plan B , her saviour. She has invested the kind of trust in him that has ensured her that no matter what happens to her tomorrow, Asad will come for her from anywhere. No matter what he thinks of her , how much she frustrates him, he is her shield to the cruelty of the big bad world out there. So, when Asad cracked under pressure , she felt that she cracked as well - this is how they have become bound to each-other.
He cried and shut down. Tears welled up in her eyes and her voice cracked. Its the cause and effect theory of soulmates. If one suffers, the world of the other comes crumbling down instantly. Simply because they are two halves of one whole walking in different bodies.
Zoe understands the precarious threat of the current situation - she is looking after Dishad, Najma , taking responsibility of the house, everything . Its her goodness and her moral duty. But her concern and her emotional pull remains towards Asad in this situation.
Is it love? Keep guessing, After all, if 80 people are reading this post, there are 80 perceptions and interpretations of love.
As for the rest of them - Rashid, Dilshad, Ayaan, Shireen, just remember one thing - NOT ALL THOSE WHO WANDER ARE LOST. They all are in a situation - just like Asad was during the Mangalpur incident , the slap horror. And your reactions in situations highlight your strengths and weaknesses , not your true character. You fumble , you weaken but ultimately what you are on the inside triumphs. Excepting Rashid, characters do not get ruined just because we make mistakes. Its holding on to the mistake and never rising above it that kills the person we are little by little.
Its a test of fire for all Ayaan, Rashid, Dilshad, Shireen. No virtue is a virtue until its tested in fire. Who comes out of this unscathed as a character remains to be seen. I am not counting Asad and Zoe because they are permanently in an examination hall.
P.S- Surbhi is a FLAWLESS actress and the way she matched Karan in bringing out the intensity of that coffee-cookies scene , WOW! She is truly his equal as an artist and that is why these two are a powerhouse to watch on-screen. Gul! You have an eye for exceptional talent. You go, girl!
