Mona Singh just can't keep her feet on the floor nowadays. The actor who confesses that she only knew how to do the bhangra, is quite elated now that she has won the dance competition Jhalak Dikhla Ja on Sony. So did the Jassi tag do the magic? "My popularity as Jassi did help me but then I have also put in a lot of hard work," she says, clearing her stand. But the other finalist Shveta Salve was the clear favourite of the judges as they felt that she was a better dancer. Did this affect her in anyway? "Shveta is a brilliant dancer. But yes, it did affect me when the judges kept saying that. They should have realised that it's not strictly a dance competition. If it was, then it would have been only for the choreographers. It was meant for people who didn't know how to dance but made an effort to learn," she says.
So why didn't she voice out her concern like how the other contestant Akashhdeep Saigal did? "I did feel like but then If I did, it would look like I'm complaining and I am the last person to do so."
Many felt that her choreographer Toby Fernandes got a little too close to her while dancing... "No, it's nothing like that (laughs). Toby is very passionate about dancing. When we used to practise Rumba, he used to tell me, 'Rumba is a very passionate and romantic dance form. Just consider me as your teacher whose job is to teach you.' And for that dance, we actually scored 29 points," she says.
Now that she has lost a lot of weight, will she continue dancing to maintain her figure? "Yes I will. In fact, I think I will call Toby to my house to dance with me," she says jokingly.
During the dance competition, one person who was constantly seen cheering her was her good friend Karan Oberoi. "Karan is very special to me. When we are together, we are like a house on fire."
So will she ever feature in any of his music albums? "Oh yes. I have promised him that I will lose another six kilos and will one day feature in his album," she says quite confidently.
