Ali and Pooja-Fatal Attraction
Harshad just started out in the TV industry. After playing a villain in Mamta, he had made a remarkable switchover to playing shy cadet Ali Baig. His ladylove in Left Right Left was fellow cadet Pooja. In contrast to most TV serials, which show the girl as someone who is inexperienced while the guy has a bevy of girlfriends, in Ali's case it was Pooja who was ahead of him. Ali came from a family where boys and girls were not allowed to 'go out', something that Harshad expressed excellently in his awkward body language and hesitant speech whenever Pooja was around. Pooja already had somebody who seemed to admire her. She was a modern, outgoing girl. But as you know, Opposites Attract, and Ali's gentle mannerisms won her over. When one of Pooja's friends tried to force himself upon her, Ali acted as a knight in shining armor. However he ended up losing his confidence once his ladylove comes to thank him. However they eventually shared a dance-and even a kiss!Ali and Pooja signified the puppy love that came along as boys and girls gradually started dating each other from 'formal courting' but they were an extremely cute couple, and it was obvious they cared for each other.
Akshat and Amber-Pehla Nasha-Infatuation
After LRL, Harshad a brief role in Amber Dhara as Akshat. Akshat was a confident modern generation guy, the typical 'rockstar' of the college. But unlike most such guys, who have a bad boy attitude, Akshat cared for Amber-Dhara, who were conjoined twins-especially Amber. Everybody looked at them like they were freaks, but Akshat always looked at them like they were human beings. It would have been difficult for any other actor to think of romancing a pair of Siamese twins,(even if the actresses were wearing prosthetics) but Harshad pulled it off beautifully. The way Akshat danced and sang for the twins without ever making them feel like they were different from other girls-Amber was quickly infatuated. Unfortunately, he didn't play the role long enough to show shades of his his character completely.
Prem and Heer-Tera Hi Bas Hona Chaahoon-Reverence
This is arguably Harshad's greatest love story. It's the role that catapulted him into fame. That of Prem Juneja, a NRI who's marriage was arranged to his father's best friend's daughter Heer when they were just children. Unfortunately, they had to go through a lot of trials and tribulations to discover each other, making their love story no lesser than a saga. Prem, who was a family-oriented guy and was devoted to his father, was even willing to leave them behind for Heer. However, even Heer was no less, and was willing to let Prem go away from her if that meant he could stay with his family. Even death could not drive the couple apart! Prem, who went missing in a bomb blast, returns as Gaurav to woo Heer again. Way of keeping the spice in the marriage intact! 😉 Okay, jokes apart, the two were separated again and Heer became the mother of Chaahat. But eventually they overcame family objections and personal misunderstandings to stay together. This might actually be the love story of several real-life couples in India, hence the reason for it's popularity. Playing the idealistic son and the passionate lover side-by-side is no mean feat, but HC did it like it was a piece of cake.
Anurag and Taani-Dil Se Re-Obsession

The most bittersweet romance of HC, it had him playing the most unconventional romantic hero in history: a man in a mental asylum. The emptiness in his eyes, the scrawling on the walls, the longing, his obsession for his 'Mishti' even though she was right in front of his eyes-HC turned him from someone who was crazed into someone whom we all could feel for. Tere Liye was the tale of Anurag and Tani, two childhood sweethearts separated because of a family misunderstanding. Unlike Prem, Anurag was not the idealistic son or lover. He was so possessive, that he almost killed a common friend when he tried to woo Tani. He disliked his strict father for sending him away to America away from Taani. Unlike most TV heroes, he was not blessed with good looks since childhood-he was a 'Motu'. He was also like any other awkward teenage boy. However, his life changed forever when he got married to Tani in childhood. When he returned from America, he brought along a girlfriend and told Tani 'I love you, but I'm not in love with you'. Yet, when he suspected Tani of loving someone else, he unleashed the full depth of his wrath on her. Again villains in the family conspired to keep them apart. Anurag almost died in an accident, but he let Tani think he was dead for good so that she could move on. However Tani returned, even though he was pretending to be half-mad.
Mohan and Kastur-Tujhme Rab Dikhta Hai-Worship
Though Anurag was flawed, he was still a caring husband who deeply loved Tani. But Mohan Gala was a step ahead of that. He was somebody who lied to his family members about having studying in London, somebody who got drunk, somebody who played around with girls. He was also deeply ambitious, a symbol of the consumerist 'Gen X'. From being a passionate lover, HC made a beautiful transition to being the attractive, despicably mischievious, yet charming(for he was Kanha) Mohan. The innocence in his otherwise fast-living character was brought out by him. Mohan, being a typical youngster, wasn't too heavy into passion. Yet the way he flirted with Kastur, shamelessly paraded his 'Toweliya' in front of her and eventually redeemed himself into a better husband-HC played the modern day lover perfectly.
Raghav and Sia(Jhanvi)-Tum Ho-Death
Unlike Mohan and Kastur, which was a relatively easy-going story, Raghav and Jahnvi's story is something no person would want to undertake unless they were deeply courageous. Jhanvi had escaped from an abusive marriage and come to Delhi assuming the identity of Sia. She was initially frightened by Raghav whom she viewed as a streetside goon, even though he attempted to defend her from a group of them! But when the man who had taken her under his wing tried to get 'favours' from her, it was Raghav who helped a frightened Sia begin life anew. Inspite of having fears and complexes of his own, Raghav made Sia learn how to utilize her anger and pain to her advantage. When Sia was fatally wounded, he remodeled himself into a businessman from a mechanic, and never left her bedside until she regained consciousness. Earlier, the ideal lover was seen as a 'Knight who helps the damsel in distress'. But Raghav symbolised the 'Modern Day Knight' who not only helps his love, but also empowers her so that she can take on the world. Unfortunately, evil won, and Raghav died. But because of the courage he had given her, Sia failed to lose hope and continued to fight her battle.
