Nigaar Z Khan plays the high-profile businesswoman Barnali in the Balaji daily Kasamh Se. This is Khan's first brush with Balaji, which came her way just as she was planning to take a break after the end of her Star One show, India Calling. Here, she talks about being Barnali....

Barnali's entry happened out of the blue in Kasamh Se, isn't it?
Yes. She lands up in Jai Walia's (Ram Kapoor) life just like that, a blast from the past. Barnali is back in Jai's life after 15 years. She is now a successful businesswoman who is hungry to reach the top, no matter what. Jai knew her and then lost touch with her. He now has Barnali at his doorstep who is taking him in her stride, matching his every step and move. Jai is caught unawares. Barnali enters when Jai Walia is bidding for a prestigious project in Dubai.

Yet the contract is yours to keep?
Barnali gets what she wants and knows how to get it. The contract is just one of the things she aspires for. There
has already been a big celebration party to mark the
occasion.

But what is Barnali's relationship with Jai Walia like?
Now, that's a mystery yet to be deciphered. Viewers only know her as a vicious person who is trying to checkmate Jai Walia. Her relationship with Jai, if there is one at all, will happen some time in the future.

At the same time, Barnali is friendly with Jai's wife Bani?
Bani suspects that Barnali is up to something. She knows that she is a cause of consteration for Jai. She knows that Barnali's presence on the scene is causing grief to Jai. Yet, she is friends with Barnali.

At the Diwali card party, both Barnali and Bani had their scenes. Despite her family's reservations, Bani comes face-to-face with Barnali at the Diwali bash. And Barnali, as usual, tries to be one up on her.

Barnali has a distinct look.
She is a high-end dresser who only wears sheer and chiffon saris with embroidery. Everything about Barnali is distinct, so is her dressing style.

Are there Barnalis lurking in real life?
Yes, there are. Women have come a long way and there are several high-profile businesswomen with a clear-cut agenda who set goals and achieve them despite the odds.

What is Barnali's clear-cut agenda?
As Barnali, the character's one-point agenda in life is to mess up Jai Walia's life. She arrives on the scene with loads of plans and an attitude to match.
