Saturday, October 28, 2006: (Mumbai):

SRK's much awaited remake of Don has had mixed reviews but like it or dislike the movie, one thing is clear. The producers of the film are laughing all the away to the bank.

"Don ka critic hona mushkil nahin namumkin hai," that was Badshah Khan's way of telling his critics to lay off.

However well or poorly they might have reviewed the film, audiences across the world are lapping up Shah Rukh's latest avataar as the gizmo savy suave mafioso.

Overseas collections have been tremendous.

"The response has been tremendous. We've grossed a total of Rs 75 crore worldwide, which is phenomenal. Right from small towns in Bihar to cities in New York, the distributors have made their money.

"In London, we got 840,000 pounds, Dubai 3.2 million dirhams and the highest in Australia. The total overseas collection is Rs 18 crores," said Ritesh Sidhwani, producer.

And there's more good news. After the phenomenal worldwide response, a Los Angeles production house has now offered to buy the rights to the movie for a Hollywood remake.

"We have been approached by a well renowned LA production house who wants to buy the rights of the film - to make Don in English, a Hollywood version," said Sidhwani.

Though critics have been lukewarm at best, Sidhwani is quick to retaliate.

"It's extremely unfair on the part of critics to write such reviews. They've gone to the extent of advising the public not to watch the film which is shocking. They have no right to do so," said Sidhwani.

So for the moment it looks like, Don ka mukabala karna namumkin hai.

In total Don has grossed 18 crores all India out of which Mumbai is 4.8 crores. It is a complete disaster in the North. Just go through the collections by each and every city. Delhi is much lower than was expected. There is already a drop in collections in Mumbai too. Regarding overseas collections, from what one hears the movie has been taken off the cinema halls in South Africa and been replaced by Jaaneman. Can't say about UK and US. One would wait for more realiable sources that is BBC and CNBC to come up with the figures. These figures look highly fudged as one can see since just a day back they reported 288K from UK and suddenly it is 1 million 😕. India fm is a marketing partner remember. They inflated the figures for KANK and Krissh also and it turned out to be 50% less than what was actually cited.
