@ enchanted - Merriam-Webster definition of an "American" :

2. a native or inhabitant of North America or South america
3. A citizen of the United States.
Both of those definitions DO apply to me so do not get personal and say that I am not American because it makes you sound very ignorant. We,Americans, take that very seriously just like you take Surbhi's criticism very seriously. I am discussing Surbhi's WORK by saying that her accent is not American , whereas you brought in my nationality.
I repeat, I discussed her WORK because her accent and speech have to do with her WORK.
Everyone's definition of "modest" is different. I said that her clothes are not modest and you said that they "ARE" with caps as if it is a FACT. You can't say your thoughts are right because "modest" is a very relative term. As for weather, I don't know, I didn't check the weather forecast for the days when they shooting, but I do know from most of the SBS videos of other shows and the actors' comments that they melt in front of the camera heat.
Asad never specifically told her to wear suits so how did you assume that he "wants" her to wear them?? If I missed it let me know. I never said that she has to wear suits to look modest either. I said she should wear more modest western clothes AND Indian clothes every once in a while because they look better on her, in my opinion.
She said she was "better off in New York". Her words were " What is wrong with this country"? Obviously she identifies herself as an American, I have no idea what you mean when you say that she doesn't call herself American. She might not say it, but it is implied through the dialogues given to her to deliver.

Just like "Wearing jeans does not make [Zoya] any more fashionable", having an accent doesn't make you more educated or more American. Yes, Surbhi does not have a strong accent, but that is not something you can bully her for! ..and tbh, she her accent has improved quite a bit over the past few months, and I'm pretty sure her new environment (Mumbai) will help her improve her english even further.

Although I kinda agree with your first paragraph, that Zoya probably should not have hidden the truth about Maryam from Asad, Zoya could in no way have predicted Dilshad's incident! Zoya saw the way Asad reacted about Maryam in Mangalpur, and so her realistic belief was that he would abandon Maryam and would not let her live in the house. If you were Zoya, would you have abandoned a girl who was raped, and then forced to marry her rapist?!

Also, the way you talked about Surbhi's "jeans being too tight" ..they are called skin-fit jeans, and following your ideology of being fashionable, they are very "in". Surbhi has a beautiful, womanly figure, and everything she has worn so far, looks great on her BECAUSE she knows how to work her curves!

I think you are generalizing and taking the term "American" too seriously. Yes, her accent isn't Surbhi's strong point, but that is improving too. Being born and brought up in America, does not make you American..and to re-iterate, having an American accent, does not make you more educated than the general public.

Zoya NEVER "claims to be oh-so-Americanized", she hates it when Asad assumes she is.

agree with u

@enchanted and EternalFrission- So you guys are basically saying that she had no idea how dangerous Maryam's family was and that she wasn't expecting that to happen to Dilshad??
Please tell me how can one not expect that after being warned by Asad that Maryam's Dad came to the house with his men. She was buried alive by them, is that not enough to tell a person that getting involved with Maryam will put everyone in trouble??
And you asked me what I would do in Zoya's situation ?? Well, I would definitely not want to be buried alive again so I would discuss the issue with Dilshad and Asad and take their advice. I am no saint, I value my life, but at the same time I would try to ensure that Maryam is in another secure place. For that, I would discuss the issue with my hosts and not make it a one-woman show. Dilshad is afterall a human being and so is Asad, he would have found a solution just like he did now. IF Zoya did not expect Asad to help her, she could have talked to Dilshad as she is usually shown to be more compassionate towards others.

Zoya is just a little redifined version of 'sacrificing devi' lol. In order to save one person, she always end up putting many lifes on stake. which is definitely not a smart move imo lol. I don't mind her helping others, but first she should learn how to save herself and then go around volunteering for others. And neither her ways of helping is relatable. You can never get rid of eve-teasing singing some random songs 😳 That whole thing was hilarious, in real if you would do that..it will only encourage eve-teasers. I really wish PH stop this whole OTP scenes with zoya.

ok i wear jeans, and dresses, and shorts all the time. And my jeans are tight too...skinny jeans...
Whats wrong with that? 😕 And jeans are modest. The last time I probably wore an indian dress was a year ago to a wedding. The only time I wear indian clothes are when I go to weddings, or navratri. I do not just own salwar kameez for my house. I dont see anything wrong in that.

Yes I agree Zoya needs to calm down with helping strangers when it is putting those people at risk who let her live in their house.
The reason Zoya has an accent is because she isnt really american. Now yay you could demand she learn american accent, but it doesnt bother me. This is an indian drama and even though in the show she is from america, she really isnt in real life. And maybe she isnt good at doing different accents as some people are.

Nisha- Do you even know what the discussion is about?? You obviously don't, and that is why you are asking me to tell you what is wrong with your clothes. I am sorry, Ma'am, you are not a character on TV for me, so what you wear or do not wear is none of my business.

Okay rude much. You could have said the same thing in a much kinder manner. Why is everyone so damn rude on this forum. As it is I dont have time to come to india-forums because I have grad school stuff going on and then whenever I do...the people make me want to come less and less.

Now that you were rude please excuse that my reply will come off as slightly rude as well.
Perhaps you should read your own thread first before replying people they dont know what they are talking about. I didnt just pull the clothes topic out of my ass did I know. You had a whole paragraph dedicated to clothing. I am copying and posting it so you can read your own thread:

Also change her clothes please. PLEASE !! People in the west wear more than just jeans and shirts with the same pattern but different colors. Also, most girls here do not tuck their shirts in when they are just at home. They wear morecasual clothes. Her jeans also look really tight on her, I understand that she is portraying the role of a modern girl, but a little modesty wouldn't hurt. Being American doesn't mean that we wear ONLY western outfits. Surbhi looked dropped dead gorgeous in the red ethnic wear during the wedding..Can we see her wear more comfy clothes at home in which she looks more feminine??

You see the little part I highlighted. I found it offensive thus I choose to talk about it. I conveniently wrote most about this in my reply because I found this little part very igniting. I did not care as much about the rest of your thread because different people think different things are important. I wrote about explaining Zoya's accent as well in case you missed reading that part of my reply (did that have nothing to do with the discussion as well). The reason I mentioned that I never wear salwar's is because one of the posts I read under your thread said something about how people in US wear salwars in the comfort of their home and Zoya should do it too. I was just demonstrating through my example that there are people who do not even own salwars to wear at home.

Next time I suggest you show a little civility to someone who takes the time to read your thread and comment on it. And do not rudely suggest that someone cannot follow an intelligent conversation or that someone does not have the ability to understand what it being said simply because they choose to emphasize something you did not.

I am curious, tell me, did you take the time to read my reply or else what I said would not have come as such a shock, you would have been able to connect the dots had you actually read what was being implied...not that you cared enough to connect the dots and understand what someone who replied on your thread was actually trying to convey.

P.S. Even if I could not comprehend the content of your thread and said something that was not the scope of this discussion, you still do not have the right to be so rude. Did you consider that someone could possibly have a reading disorder or another disorder. I imagine you did not.

Look at the language you are using, and you are teaching me about civility. Hypocricy much??
Yes, I had a paragraph dedicated to clothing, but it was about Zoya, a Muslim-American girl. I have nothing against your religion, I am just saying that the whole modesty point was written while keeping MY own cultural and religious beliefs in mind. That is why I said that her clothes are not modest to a reply to another person on here. You brought in yourself and honestly, your first two lines sounded very sarcastic like " Yeah, I wear them, what are you gonna do about it?" sort of a thing.
There are certain things you expect from every character..Like nobody expected Khushi to go around her house wearing western clothes because of her character sketch. Likewise, when ZOya was shown as a moderate Muslim in the beginning, I thought she would strike a balance and wear both kinds of clothing... like most of the girls in my family do here. However, that didn't happen and I just commented on that. My post was not to say that anyone else from other religiosn or cultures who wears such clothes are immodest. If my thiinking was like that for other religions then I wouldn't have been best friends with Sikhs and Hindus. I am which means that in real life I am very tolerant. If I offended you, I wholeheartedly apologize, Nisha. But I also wish that you had atleast asked what I mean by "immodest" and in what context instead of jumping the gun and thinking that I am talking about everyone in the world. I also should have made it more clear that I hold that view because of Zoya's beliefs, but I didn't want to mention religion in my main topic because that would just arguments, so I made it clear to adeeti with whom I share a great rapport on this forum..so yeah thats why I didn't make it clear. I repeat, I apologize if you thought I am judging YOU. I have no right to do that and I am not.

I wasnt being hypocritical at all. I warned you in the beginning that my reply will come off as rude because I felt that you were rude to me.
Also, it was not meant to be sarcastic...it was just a statement.
Btw, I dont get where religion even came up. I wasn't thinking about religion or culture at all when I wrote my first reply. I never thought you were saying anything against my religion.
Neither did I think you were personally attacking me or judging me...I thought you were judging all those people who thought like me. Thus I got defensive.
Its just that people dont appreciate being told they are stupid...or implying that they are. I thought that is what you implied when you replied back to me thus I got angry.
It doesnt matter though. To be honest, I really dont even have the energy to fight. And I dont like to fight anyways...I am generally very jovial. 😊 Lets just call it MU and call it a day. Got a grad school interview tomorrow...gotta prepare for it...so peace.
