Chapter 1
As usual every morning she would wake up and go towards the window…today wasn't different she was as everyday standing there….she could see all the cars passing by, she stood there thinking about the drastic changes that had occurred in her life the past few months….after she met him……HIM….the man any woman would want….rich, handsome…..she slightly blushed thinking about him…..JAI WALIA…..the man that had captured her heart…..
BANI DI!!!!! PIA and me have to go to college…….RANO shouted
Hearing her name…brought her out of her reverie…..she realized she had been day dreaming for quite sometime and had to go down to make breakfast for her sisters….PIA and RANO….. PIA was 21 and RANO was 18…all of them were from Mount Abu…they had moved to Mumbai when BANI was 18…RANO was 13 and PIA was 16…..BANI had just transferred to a fashion designing college in Mumbai and both her sister were yet attending school at that time…BANI worked many different jobs and at the same time studied…she tried to give her sisters the best she could…now both of them thanks to BANIs efforts were able to attend one of the best colleges in crowded Mumbai…and Bani who was now 23 worked at the Walia Group of Companies, her dream was to become a very famous fashion designer but for now she had frozen that dream and worked as the head of the creative department…she hated the job…but it paid well…..she had to support her sisters…and if that meant that she had to give up her dreams….she would…. she was in charge of the interior decorating of each and every hotel that Walia Industries owned…to many to actually keep a track….her job was tiring but at the same time rewarding because she could see him….
BANI headed to the bathroom and had a shower…..she wore a beautiful pair of blue denim capris with white beads hanging at the bottom and white beads stuck in the outline of her front and back pockets and a dashing white strapless top….she wore a beautiful crystal clear necklace and of course matching earrings and bracelet….she had an amazing sense of dressing….everybody in the office loved the way she looked and everybody loved the way she was, sweet and fun loving….to add in the final touch she let her hair loose over her shoulders and put on white high heeled stilettos. She looked ravishing…..she went to the hall and saw her sisters eating a bowl of cereal….both of them had a frown on their faces…
- Arrrreeee….what happened to both of youll? ...Bani asked.
- DI…..we have been waiting for such a long time….and we wanted your hot parathas….but now you have no time to make that for us….PIA stated and got back to eating the half filled bowl of Apple Ohs. Meanwhile RANO was quietly eating with a sad look on her face….for RANO and PIA, BANI was their mother, sister, confident and support, they couldn't live without her nor could BANI live without them…..
Bani realizing that she had got really late….she promised PIA and RANO that she would make it up to them by preparing their favourite dish for lunch….and that was Lasagna and garlic bread….BANI was very modern but at the same time full of values and moral….she lived up to them. She had the proper Sanskaar….. her parents had given her that till the day they died...at that time she was only 17 years old.
Both the girls went off to college…it was only 8 am and BANI didn't have to go work until 10 am….so she had plenty of time to keep everything ready for lunch…..she tied up her hair and proceeded to do the cooking…..when she was finished she kept everything in the fridge and glanced at the wall clock and realised it was 9.45 am….she didn't even realize that time had passed so fast…she went off to her room combed her black silky hair applied some transparent lip gloss and sprayed some perfume…she just loved the way it smelled….it was 212 SEXY by Carolina Herrera…..she picked a white purse from her cupboard and put in her wallet, cell phone, lip gloss, comb and her house keys…and by the time she left it was 9.55 am…..she had only five minutes to get to work….she hated to be late for work….JAI WALIA would hate to know that she was late….from what she could realize by working for him for almost 6 months is that he was ruthless, and didn't care about people's feelings…and specially their problems…he always wanted things done his way…she couldn't believe till today that she had fallen in love with him….till today he didn't know the feelings she had for him but she was sure that he didn't feel the same way about her….while she was in the cab her thoughts wandered back to the day she met him….she remembered each and everything that happened that day…that day her life changed for ever…
She was looking for a job…..she had finished her Fashion designing course and she had quit her job as a waitress and wanted something better…now that she had a degree she wanted to give her sisters the best she could….. that day she got the interview for the interior designer post….She was wearing a pink sari which had silver work on it and with that she wore a pair of sleek and sophisticated silver stilettos, she also wore a white gold chain with a B pendant on it….her father had gifted to her few months before he died….all sisters had one with their initials. Bani wore matching earrings and bangles…she looked lovely, the Indian look as well as western both suited her perfectly….she reached the office and went through the huge glass door….she went towards the receptionist…..and introduced herself…
- Hi….My name is BANI DIXIT…..i am here for the interview…
- Oh, yes Miss Dixit we were expecting you….please have a seat…ill call your name in a few minutes….
- Thank you….
BANI went to sit…she was clutching her file with both her hands, she had never been so nervous in her entire life….
- MISS DIXIT….MR. WALIA is expecting you….his cabin is the 2nd door at your right.
- Thank you.
BANI walked towards the 2nd wooden door….and knocked…..
- Come in please….
As she walked in she thought to herself that she had never heard such a sexy and attractive voice before….she could see someone sitting on a huge black business like chair…the back of the chair towards her…..
- Please have a seat MISS….mmmm
- DIXIT, BANI DIXIT
As BANI sat infront of him he turned around and looked at her…..his gaze was completely on the beautiful young lady that was infront of him….
- MISS DIXIT….I AM JAI WALIA….
- A pleasure to meet you SIR.
- Please MISS DIXIT….call me MR. WALIA….I hate people calling me SIR.
- Ok ….MR. WALIA
She gave him a faint smile…yet clutching her file between her hands….. at this point her stomach was doing flip flaps and she was feeling kind of nauseous ….her frail body was trembling….and she was gazing intently at that man who had captivated her the moment she saw him.
- So, MISS DIXIT could you please hand me over your file.
She gave him the file and he started looking at it. His face expression changed immediately…as she observed the change…she got even more nervous and was hoping her interview would end soon….
- MISS DIXIT….I can't tell you how impressed I am….but there is something I don't get you are a Fashion Designer not an Interior Decorator so what makes you think that you can do this job?.
- Well MR WALIA with all due respect….there are a lot of things in common in both professions…both use colours….give it a try…let me prove it to you that I am more than qualified for the job….
He just looked at her and suddenly his serious expression changed to a full fledged smile…….she smiled too…
- Well MISS DIXIT…now I am more impressed than before…all I can say is that FINE ill put you on trial…infact we have a suite which has just been finished and it has to be decorated by next week as a very important British Delegate is coming to Mumbai and he will be using this suite. Do you think you can manage..?
- Of course I can….I just need something from you MR. WALIA ….an assistant or helper coz Ill be running around all day…
- No problems MISS DIXIT….ill assign you my niece Anu…she loves all this….
- Thank you MR. WALIA.
- MISS DIXIT…for the expenses of the suite you'll be using a company credit card and you shall be handing over a detailed report of the expenses to me at the end of each assignment. Your cabin will be the one next to mine…and also I would like to see the suite 2 days before its handed over to the guest….so basically you have just 5 days to do everything…its that ok….do you think you can yet manage?
- Hahahha….MR. WALIA….you dont know me MR. WALIA….I am not scared of challenges….See you soon and thank you….
With that she got up and walked out of his office…his gaze following her wherever she went…..
She and ANU became very close, they enjoyed those days working together….treated each other as sisters…and since the day she got the job they became inseparable….they would sit in BANIs cabin till late night and ordered pizza and cold drinks for dinner… they would sit up and discuss what they had to do the next day.
The 5th day had come and they both were nervous because they had to show the suite to MR. WALIA….BANI was praying that he would like everything….ANU had escorted MR. WALIA towards the suite meanwhile BANI was doing the last minute arrangements. When MR. WALIA opened the door BANI was just arranging the flowers in the main room…. He looked at her and his face lightened up…everybody was waiting for him to say something….but he was too busy looking at her… ANU coughed discretely and brought him out of his reverie…he looked around the room and just gasped….everything was beautifully done…the entire room looked as if it was the bedroom of a king…it was decorated in gold and red….flowers all over the place in the shades of yellow, peach, and red….he looked around and finally met BANIs eyes again….he looked at her and gently said..
- MISS DIXIT….welcome to Walia Group of Industries……..
With that he walked off leaving a totally dumbstruck BANI who was rooted to the spot…didn't know how to react….
And well since then she had become the best Interior Decorator Walia Industries ever had.
She realized that since then she had not spoken to him much but she had definitely seen him walking through the corridors and in group meetings…how she longed to see him and talk to him…how could she love someone so much but at the same time not know him at all….as she was thinking this…..the taxi driver spoke out….
- MISS….we have reached….MISSSSSSSSS
- Sorry…..mmmm….how much do I owe you?
- 20 rupees.
- Thank you….
She got down of the cab and walked through the glass door….she glanced over at her watch and realized that it was 10.15 am …..she was 15 minutes late….she as just hoping that ADITYA UNCLE…hadn't called her….ADITYA UNCLE was MR. WALIAS best friend and business partner and how could she forget ANUs father…she called him uncle because he from told her not to call him Sir…he always said that BANI was a like a daughter to him and a sister to ANU….he was the one who usually gave BANI her assignments and she reported everything to him….she reached her cabin and ANU ran in behind her….
- BANI I am so glad I found you……..I am so screwed….the entire flower set we had for the party at the Walia mansion tonight its not ready and the guy who was supposed to decorate the entire hall is ill…please help me ….i don't know what to do… JAI UNCLE is going to kill me…..he put me incharge of everything and I have failed miserably.
- HAHAHHA….ANU….dont worry…Why fear when I am here….ill help you…
she got her purse from her desk and pulled ANU by her arm and dragged her towards the corridor…
- where are we going BANI….?
- Youll see
She took ANU to the flower market…ANU was totally surprised to see this but decided to go along whit BANI in whatever she wanted to do….
After that BANI and ANU headed to the Walia Mansion and started working on the decorations….the party was only at 7 pm…. they had plenty of time…MR. WALIA had wanted to do this party to celebrate the finalizing of a important business deal….only important people were invited….BANI was wishing that she could be in this party only to see him… but well she wasn't invited…she was here only to help ANU. BANI could see that everything was going well…she had been wrapped in work….and didn't realize the time until she heard her cell phone ringing and realized that it was only 12.30 pm… ….she picked it up….and spoke….
- HELLO!!
- BANI DI!!!! Where are you?
- OH hi RANO….I am at work….I wont make it for lunch you guys heat up the food it's kept in the fridge….I am sorry!!
- Oh DI!! Don't worry I understand….
- Bye RANO ill call you later
- BYE
She kept her cell phone back in her purse and headed towards the main entrance and told the people to put up the things in their right place….the hours past so fast….by the time all of them were done…it was 5.30 pm…she told bye to ANU and was heading to the front door of the house…as she was busy looking for a tissue from her purse…to dry the sweat spots on her forehead…. she didn't notice that someone was coming in and bumped into an elderly woman…maybe in her 40s…she seemed very pleasant and nice….BANI realizing that it must be someone important…just muttered….
- I am so sorry….I didn't realize that you were standing there…
- Its ok no problem….what is your name?
- BANI DIXIT…I work for MR. WALIA I am his interior decorator….
- Ohh yes, my daughter ANU has spoken a lot about you…My name is Jigyasa Walia…I am Jais elder sister….
- A pleasure to meet you Mrs. Walia….
With this BANI touched her feet and said….
- I have to go…
- Ohhh why don't you stay for the party….
Before she could answer ANU came from the other corner and said….
- YES, BANI please stay…is going to be really nice if you can come…
- Ill try ANU…I have to see to my sisters too…I haven't seen them the whole day.
Before anybody could say anything else….she heard a very familiar voice saying….
- You should come.
BANI turned to realize that it was MR. WALIA, he was standing right behind her.
- You should come BANI....I would really like if you could attend the party…
- It would be a pleasure to attend the party MR. WALIA but as I told ANU and her mom…I have to go home and see my sisters…
- OH….
Before he could continue talking….someones cell phone rang….BANI realized it was hers….
- Oh….I am so sorry
She picked up her phone and she could hear a chirpy PIA on the phone…..
- DI!!! You won't believe it….I got an invitation for dinner and then partying at this really hot night club….
- What??? Have you gone mad PIA…. You are not going…..
- But DI!!!!
- I said NO!!! and that is final….
- Please!!! Please!!!
JAI was looking at BANI intensely….he was deep in thoughts of how beautiful she looked…she was starting to get nervous….and by the way PIA was begging she couldnt stop herself from smiling…
- FINE!!!! You can go but please dont be late ok?...and by the way where is RANO?
- She has gone to anishas house to stay over….I thought she told you!!!
- Ohhh yeah she did!!! I totally forgot….well….I guess I am on my own….
- Yes DI!!!! You are…..bye cya later….
- Bye...
She looked at ANU and she said…
- I am free…my sisters dumped me…..so I guess I can stay for the party….
- That's great BANI…JAI uncle can we borrow your car ill take BANI to her house so she can get ready….
- Yes, ofcourse ANU take it….here are the keys….
- Thank you…uncle….
BANI and ANU both went off to BANIs house…..BANI was so nervous…she didn't know what to do ….
They reached her house and she was checking her wardrobe didn't know what to wear…she wanted to look gorgeous…she wanted to impress him…
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?? She thought to herself….
ANU was waiting for her and wondering what was taking BANI so long…she barged into BANIs bedroom and noticed that BANI was a nervous wreck….ANU burst out laughing….
- BANI what is wrong with you?
- ANU I am so nervous…I don't know why….
- I know why….You are head over heals for JAI uncle….Am I right?
- Am I that obvious…?
- Ahahaha BANI you are totally mad…..
- Help me ANU…what do I wear….?
- Well I think that should wear something in Blue and Pink….you will look lovely…..mmmm…but not western…wear a Sari…..
- Ohh…ANU I have the perfect Sari here...
- Its beautiful….now please go put all you need in a bag and come fast…we will get ready at my place…. Its 6.10 already.
- Ok…give me a minute….
As soon as she finished putting everything in her bag she went of with ANU back to the Walia Mansion….. she was feeling a bit calm after reaching the Walia Mansion….both of them headed to ANUs bedroom and started to get ready….BANI was wearing her sari….she looked beautiful….Jigyasa had come in and saw BANI looking gorgeous…..Jigyasa was really impressed on how this girl carried herself so well….she thought to her herself that if JAI ever got married she would love to have a sister in law like BANI…. JIGYASA saw BANI struggling to wear her bangles as they wouldnt go in…so she came and told BANI…
- Arre…BANI….youll hurt your hand if you keep pushing them in…. here….let me help you….
She helped BANI….JIGYASA smiled at her and somehow saw a tenderness in BANI which made her heart weep….she thought of BANI as a second daughter….so young, so well brought up….a sister to her daughter ANU…..
BANI smiled back and thanked JIGYASA for the help….JIGYASA left the room and told BANI to tell ANU, who was in the bathroom to hurry up…
The party had started already….the press was gathered there too…..JAI was busy answering their questions….and introducing JIGYASAs younger son SAHIL to everybody….he was soon going to join the company so JAI wanted him to know all his business associates…..JAI always thought that if he ever had a son….that child would take over…but now JAI was going to turn 38 in a few months…so for him to fall in love was kind of impossible at this stage of his life….atleast that is what he thought……..so his last hope was SAHIL…he loved and treated him as if he was his own son…and he wanted him to handle the business….
Everybody was enjoying the party….it had started half hour ago…and everything was in full swing ….people were dancing….SAHIL and JAI were busy talking to people and the press was doing the coverage of the party by interviewing known business tycoons….the music was loud…you could hear the chattering of a lot of people…..suddenly everything became so quiet….everybody's gaze was in the girl who was gracefully coming down the stairs….JAI was wondering what was happening….he followed the peoples gaze and saw ANU coming down the stairs with another girl….he gasped and sighed…he was so impressed by her beauty….it took him a while to realize that the girl coming down the stairs was none other than BANI…. She looked gorgeous….all the men were drooling over her….how he wished that she was with him…he thought to himself…..GOSH…SHE IS SO BEAUTIFUL….he had a very weird feeling about her…it was as if in her presence….nothing else mattered.
BANI came down and ANU was by her side….she came in and nobody could stop themselves from staring at her….so many people started muttering among themselves making BANI very uncomfortable….people were commenting on her looks and class…she was the talk of the night…everybody loved the way she looked… ANU started introducing her to some people….JIGYASA noticed the impact BANI had made among the guests….so she proceeded to introduce BANI with the most important people in high society….they were all impressed by the way she spoke and carried herself, she was so polite and well mannered….JAI couldn't stop staring at her…she looked at him from one corner of the room and she smiled gently….JIGYASA noticed this…and decided that she with the help of ANU would become cupid and would throw the arrow of love to both their hearts to unite them as one….
The ladies who had attended the party were praising her like mad…they loved her sari…it was beautifully made…her sister PIA had given it to her on her 23rd birthday few months back…PIA had done a modelling shoot for COVERGIRL and whatever she earnt she spent it on her DIs sari…the sari was made of chiffon and was in a nice dark pink shade with a mix of blue…the blouse was halter neck and it was the same blue shade as the sari….the sari had silver work on it and the blouse had pink and silver beads on it….It was a genuine ANITA DONGRE….
JIGYASA called the press towards them…as soon as they looked at BANI they started bombarding her with questions relating her life….she didn't now what to answer…the words weren't coming out from her mouth….JAI sensed that she was uncomfortable so he went to her rescue….past across the press and looking at BANI and said….
- Would you care to dance with me?
He extended his hands towards her…waiting for her to take it….
BANI was a bit taken aback….she didn't expect him to come and ask her to dance… ANU hit her with her elbow….and encouraged BANI to go dance with JAI.
BANI gracefully placed her hand over JAIs and followed him to the dance floor…BANI felt as if she had been flying….she was happy…at the same time nervous…it was wrong but at the same time it felt so right to be with him…to be in his arms…they danced at the rhythm of the song…it was slow and soft…he placed one hand of his in BANIs back…she could feel an electric current passing through her entire body….she buried her head on his chest…every single person in that hall was looking at them….the women were jealous to see JAI in other person's arms….and the same was for the men watching BANI.
JIGYASA thought to herself that they made such an amazing couple and told ANU about it….ANU was surprised to see that her mom has sensed that BANI was head over heals for JAI…and agreed to help her in her plans….because deep down she knew that JAI liked BANI.
BANI was yet in trance…couldn't believe that the man she thought was so far...beyond reach…was now so close to her….she was brought out of her day dreaming by JAI itself….
- BANI…you are looking absolutely gorgeous today…..
Slightly blushing BANI replied back saying….
- Thank you, MR. WALIA….you are not looking bad yourself….
- Hahhaa Thank you BANI….
BANI….looked up directly into his eyes…and he looked into hers…both of them getting lost in their deepness…..
- MAY I??
Both of them jumped apart and realised that a man…younger than JAI….and very handsome…was asking JAI if he could dance with BANI….
JAI was dying to say no….but it would look odd so he said….
- No problem go ahead….excuse me ….
He walked off leaving a broken hearted BANI staring into space…. The young man lead BANI and started dancing, he introduced himself as Rahul Singhania….JAI saw them talking and laughing…he didn't know why but he was burning in the inside….he was angry…upset…seeing HER dancing and enjoying with someone else who wasn't him was getting on his nerves…. He didn't know why….
SAHIL watched his uncle and realized that he was jealous….he walked up to ANU and told her that JAI uncle was very jealous and that he definitely liked BANI….ADITYA who was standing next to his daughter ANU and son SAHIL also looked up to JAI….and realized that whatever they were saying was true….JAI liked BANI…. They had to get them together somehow…JIGYASA, SAHIL, ANU and ADITYA decided that they would help in making them realize what they felt for each other…
The party got over and BANI was tired her feet were hurting and her head was splitting….it was almost midnight.
She had been on the move since 7.30 am…she was dying to go to bed…. She went up to ANUs room and packed her clothes back in her bag…she got it down and saw that everybody from the family was gathered in the hall…ANU, SAHIL, JAI, ADITYA , JIGYASA….and ADITYAs mom ASHWINI…but everybody in the house called her DADI… BANI walked up to them and before she could say anything…her cell phone rang…..she looked in her purse for her phone…and picked it up…
- Hi darling!!!
- Who is this??
- Your fianc TARUN…..
Her face became pale and everybody noticed it…she was so shocked she dropped her phone…shattering it into pieces….
- BANI are you ok?
JAI gently asked her….
- I am ok MR. WALIA…I just need to go home….
She picked what was left of her phone said goodbye and left….
JAI ran behind her leaving everybody highly surprised….he grabbed her arm and told her…
- Let me drop you home….it is quite late….it is dangerous for a girl to walk alone at night…and more when she is so pretty…and wearing such a sexy sari….
She blushed…. and looked at him and nodded….
The drive was quiet none of them uttered a word…. They reached BANIs house…JAI parked the car…and then got down and proceeded to open the passenger side door...he held his hand out for BANI to get out of the car….he was a total gentleman…
JAI was wondering about the call that made BANI so nervous…but he didn't dare ask her anything as he was only her boss…maybe she wouldn't like it…
They said their goodbyes and BANI rushed in towards the main door and entered… He stood there for a few minutes….wondering what was happening to him…he didn't know what he was feeling…but for some reason he liked that deep feeling…he drove all the way back home thinking about whatever happened at the party…he couldn't stop thinking about her…he reached home went directly to his room…changed into his silk night suit and went off to bed…wishing that the morning sun rays would soon hit his face …as he was desperately wanting to see her again….
