CID Episode 102 - 7th December

Part 35
It was nearly midnight when Maan and Brij arrived back at Handa Haveli. Maan was in a foul mood having wasted his whole day with Suresh and Brij. However, the issue with the workers was resolved and he was assured that he would have no problems in the future, since he was the Handa's damaad.
The door was opened by Taiyji who had waited up for them. "You took so long. We were worried about you. Could you not have called?" Taiyji asked Brij.
"You know Suresh. It is impossible to leave until he wants you to leave. Even now, we were saved, because someone else needed to discuss another issue otherwise we would have been there until tomorrow! Isn't that right Maan?" Brij said slapping him on the back, a bit harder than necessary.
Maan remained tight-lipped and just nodded.
"Have you eaten?" Taiyji asked both of them. Both nodded in response.
"Okay, then. I am going to bed. It has been a long day" Taiyji said leaving them in the hallway. She was going up the stairs when she turned back to look at Maan. She really wanted to say something to him about Ms Roy but Geet had told them all to keep quiet about the matter. She insisted that she would handle it. Taiyji took a big sigh, and turned back towards the stairs. Maan who had seen her turning towards him stopped her by saying "Taiyji. You look troubled. Anything wrong?"
What could she say? She was troubled, but her lips were sealed. "Nothing beta" she answered with a weak smile. "I was just thinking, that tomorrow you are leaving with Geet. You will take our ronak with you".
"Yes, but you will come and visit us and we will also come to see you. And we will be talking everyday on the phone" Maan reassured Taiyji.
"It won't be the same beta" Taiyji said sadly, mounting the stairs.
Turning again, Taiyji said "Ha, talking about Geet. She is staying with Rano tonight. She was feeling lonely and since it is her last day here, we thought you wouldn't mind"
Maan nodded and said "Of course I don't mind. It is good for both Geet and Mummyji to spend some time together. Geet and I will have all the time in the world to be together"
Maan entered Geet's bedroom which was quiet and still...as if it was missing it's life...Of course it was...Geet was not there. He saw their bags packed in the corner, and his bed clothes laid neatly on the bed. Maan looked at the bed clothes and looked at the bed. Too exhausted by the day, he decided sleep was more important that changing, so he flopped onto the bed and tried to sleep. He slept fitfully...he was missing Geet. In a few short days, he had got used to her presence beside him on the bed, and now sleeping alone felt unnatural. He wondered, as he tried to sleep, how she managed to influence his life so much...what magic did she weave, to make him need her...did he need her, he wondered.
Maan awoke to the sound of birds chirping and the sunlight streaming through the bedroom window. His hands automatically searched for Geet on the bed, but not finding her there, remembered that she had spent the night with Rano. Maan got up from the bed and went to the washroom. He was surprised to see some fresh day clothes hanging there. He smiled, Geet, seemed to think of everything. After half an hour Maan exited the washroom, feeling refreshed. He wondered where Geet was. Surely she should be here with his morning coffee by now, he thought.
He heard a beep coming from his phone which he had left on the side table last night. He walked towards it to see who had messaged him. As he went to lift up the phone, his eyes fell onto a white envelope beside it. It had his name on it... He wasn't sure whether it been there last night. Who could have left it there? He lifted the envelope and opened it carefully. It contained a letter. As he took the letter out, something fell to the floor. He looked down to see a mangalsutra lying at his feet. "Geet" he whispered.
