Islamabad: Pakistan has lodged a strong protest with India for the "mistreatment and illegal detention" of an employee working in its High Commission in New Delhi.
Deputy High Commissioner Afrayasab recorded his protest with the Joint Secretary, Dilip Sinha, at the Indian Foreign Ministry and termed "the incident as against diplomatic norms," the Online news agency said on Sunday.
According to the foreign office, M. Farooq, a driver working at the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi, was allegedly picked up by Indian agents and kept in illegal detention for several hours.
Farooq was detained regarding his suspected involvement in spying for which an Indian army soldier has been arrested.
