Rate episode 66: "Ekk Insaan Do Maut"
Smita,😊
Here is my interpretation to part 105.
This update is based on love. We see various people expressing their love. Its all about loving a lot, adoring, being excessively fond of...
...DOTE ON...
It was NK and Aarti's wedding.
Amma couldn't stop her tears as Khushi, Anjali, & Payal dressed Aarti in the red Banarsi sari that Khushi had gifted her.
"A tear rolled down my cheek
And more came down
Until tears rolled down like a stream.
My eyes were blind with tears for you.
They washed my eyes till I could see"
~ Calvin O'John
Rani hugged Amma.
"Don't cry, Kamlaji. She is our daughter, not our bahu."
Amma nodded.
Rani handed over a big box of jewellery to Khushi. "I have been buying jewellery for NK's wife over the years.", she smiled. "And I have too many sets. Woh kya he, I love buying jewellery. But what is the use of a cabinet full of necklaces? I have only one neck. And I can't make NK wear them!"
"These gems have life in them: their colors speak, say what words fail of" ~ George Eliot
All laughed.
Rani whispered in Amma ear. "You are so lucky to have such a nice, loving, kind-hearted daughter! You have no idea how much I longed for a daughter! How many years I waited for one!"
"Daughters are angels sent from above to fill our hearts with never ending love"
Amma hugged Rani, and whispered back, "Your son is no less a treasure. He is such a gem of a boy! So loving and cheerful! And responsible!"
"I adore his smile
I cherish his hugs
I admire his heart
But most of all ...
I love that he is my son"
Khushi, Payal, & Anjali helped Aarti wear a gem-studded maang-tikka, a thick necklace, a long chain with hanging pearls and rubies, thick bangles with rubies and emeralds, gem-studded armlets & waistband, & gold payal. Her hair was coiled into a bun, and the bun was covered with jasmine flowers. The pallu of the sari was draped over Aarti's head, the sari being worn in the traditional way. Aarti looked regal, like a princess, her manly stance and straight posture adding to the effect.
"Are you a princess? I said and she said I'm much more than a princess, but you don't have a name for it yet here on earth" ~ Brian Andreas
Khushi led Aarti to the mirror, and made her sit down and look at her image. Aarti stared at herself for a moment.
Then she whispered, "Is this really me?"
"She's kind of a walking poem, she's this perfect beauty...but at the same time very deep, very smart" ~ Johnny Depp
The ladies in the room and Buaji who was about to enter the room, stood still, their throats choked with tears at that simple question.
Then Buaji, not wishing Aarti to dwell on the past, waddled in.
"Sooner or later we've all got to let go of our past" ~Dan Brown, Deception Point
"Aarti Bitiyaa, look what I have got for you, Nandkisore!"
"Buaji!", protested Aarti.
Buaji gave her a small box. Aarti opened it carefully to find a small, silver box in which she could keep her sindoor.
"It is beautiful, Buaji. But the expense..", Aarti said, swallowing.
Buaji hugged her, kissing her forehead.
"You like it?", Bujai asked Aarti.
Aarti nodded. "Very much."
"Then the expense does not matter.", said Buaji. Suddenly, she gasped. "Hai Re Nandkisore! Let me look at you!"
"The excellence of a gift lies in its appropriateness rather than in its value"
~ Charles Dudley Warner
All the ladies smiled fondly as Buaji made Aarti get up from her seat, and went around her, exclaiming at the beauty of the bride, the way in which the jewellery enhanced her beauty, the aptness of the Banarsi sari, how Aarti looked more beautiful than a film actress!
Aarti blushed.
"A pretty face may be enough to catch a man, but it takes character and good nature to hold him."
~ Thomas More, Utopia
Mami entered the room, gasped, and said "Hello Hi Bye Bye!" in a feeble voice. "Is thijj our Aarti Bitiyyaa? Or have I come to the wrong roomwaa?"
All laughed, reassuring her that she was in the right place.
"I was just telling her that she is more beautiful than a film actress, Nandkisore!", Buaji said.
"They will stop calling brides beautiful after today... you have simply set the standard too high"
~ Anna Goberson, Rumours
"Aur naahin to kaa? Ash, Deepika, Kareena, Rani, all bill have to sit at home, covering their phaces (faces) in their pallu. Our Aarti Bitiyaa ijj here!", declared Mamiji.
"Beauty is the illumination of your soul"
~ John O'Donohue, Anam Cara: A Book of Celtic Wisdom
There was a knock at the door. All looked towards the door to see Arnav, looking dashing in a white sherwani.
He smiled to see all his family so decked up and smiling.
"It is time to leave for the venue.", he said softly, smiling at Khushi. His eyes ran over her form in a bright blue Banarsi sari. She looked more than beautiful. His heart skipped a beat.
"True beauty is a ray
That springs from the sacred depths of the soul,
and illuminates the body, just as life
springs from the kernel of a stone and
gives colour and scent to a flower."
~ Kahlil Gibran, Love Letters in the Sand
"I am ready.", announced Mamiji. "And Aarti Bitiyaa is ready too."
"Nani is waiting downstairs with NK, Anand Jiju, & Akash. The others have left for the hall. Payal's parents, Baba, & the children, & Gopi Kakka are already at the hall.", Arnav informed them.
The ladies laughed at NK's expense, imagining his impatience at being kept waiting.
"...of all the hardships a person had to face none was more punishing than the simple act of waiting"
~ Khaled Hosseini, A Thousand Splendid Suns
They filed out of the room. Amma, Rani, Buaji & Mami walked out together. Khushi was about to follow them when Arnav caught hold of her hand, and gently pulled her to stand by him.
Anjali, Payal, & Aarti smiled as they walked out. Arnav & Khushi were left alone in the room.
"Arnavji! Kya hua?", Khushi asked.
"Why? Does something have to happen before I can talk to my wife?", Arnav raised his famous eyebrow.
"If I had a single flower for every time I think about you, I could walk forever in my garden"
~ Claudia Gould
Khushi looked down, smiling. She too had been hoping to have a moment alone with him. The last couple of days had been hectic.
"What did you want to talk to me about?", she asked softly, the smile playing on her sweet lips.
"In the end, what you do isn't going to be nearly as interesting or important as who you do it with"
~ John Green
"Two important things. One, I will be driving you, Aarti, Payal, & Di to the venue and Akash & Mohan will be driving the others." His tone was very businesslike, and his face, stern.
"It has long been an axiom of mine that the little things are infinitely the most important"
~ Arthur Conan Doyle, The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes
Her smile vanished.
"Oh!", poor Khushi said, her face becoming serious. "Ji. And the second important thing?"
"Nothing is more important than that you see and love the beauty that is right in front of you, or else you will have no defense against the ugliness that will hem you in and come at you in so many ways."
~ Neal Stephenson, Anathem
Arnav swooped down to give a loud and smacking kiss to her neck. "This.", he said, smiling.
"It's not much, but I'm sort of attached to it"
~ A.A. Milne, Winnie-the-Pooh
Khushi looked at him, startled, her hand covering the spot he had kissed, her breathing rapid.
"Chalein?", he asked, smiling.
This update begins with the bridal dressing of Aarti by Khushi, Anjali and Payal in the Red Banarasi saree gifted by Khushi during Akash and Payal's wedding. Kamala who was moved to tears, was crying copiously with happiness of being able to see her daughter as a bride resplendent in her wedding finery. Mother's doting love was overwhelming her.
"Something came out from my heart into my throat and then into my eyes"
~ Jean Rhys, Voyage in the Dark
Rani who was witnessing it, tried to console her saying that Aarti is her daughter and not daughter-in-law. That she would be cherished in their home as well their heart. Rani handed over a big box of Jewelery to Khushi and told her to deck Aarti with the pieces from that box too. They were the jewelery pieces that she had collected over the years for her daughter-in-law, whoever be it. Her penchant for jewelery made her buy them.
While the rest were busy with the bridal dressing, Rani whispered to Kamala that she is lucky to possess such a nice, loving, kind-hearted daughter. Having only one son she had longed for years to have a daughter and now she is blessed to have such a good one!
Kamala hugged Rani back saying that her son is no less a treasure. A gem of a boy endowed with loving, cheerful disposition. Moreover a responsible person too.
Both the mothers are happy that their children have found their perfect partner in the other and they are happy to be part of their life too!
"Your children are not your children. They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself"
~ Kahlil Gibran
They are filled with gratitude for having their wishes fulfilled!
Aarti who was decked up in the traditional manner with,
"gem-studded maang-tikka, a thick necklace, a long chain with hanging pearls and rubies, thick bangles with rubies and emeralds, gem-studded armlets & waistband, and gold payal, hair coiled into a bun covered with jasmine flowers, pallu of the traditionally worn sari draped over the head",
was a sight to behold! She was looking majestic with her regal posture!
When led by Khushi in front of mirror, Aarti just couldn't believe the reflection she saw! What she saw was a beautiful girl staring back at her. She wondered aloud, "Is this really me?" She who had been schooled and brought up as a boy was wonder struck that she too could look beautiful. It took her back to her childhood where she was always suppressed by her father. The ladies in the room and Buaji who was just entering the room were moved to tears.
"Tears are words the mouth can't say nor can the heart bare" ~ Joshua Wisenbaker
Buaji not wishing Aarti to dwell on her bitter past, distracted her by gifting her a silver sindoor holder. Aarti who was moved by Buaji's gesture was worried at the amount she had to shell out for it. But her concern was brushed aside by Buaji saying it was of no consequence if Aarti loved it. We see how Buaji not only is concerned about her not dwelling in the murky past but is gently nudging her to forget it and to look ahead at her present and her future with NK.
Buaji going around Aarti appreciated the beautiful swan she had turned into. She complimented her as beautiful as a film actress! bringing a dash of blush into Aarti's cheeks. Mami who entered just then gasped seeing at the vision in front of her.
"Hello Hi Bye Bye!" in a feeble voice. "Is thijj our Aarti Bitiyyaa? Or have I come to the wrong roomwaa?"
This evoked laughter.
"I was just telling her that she is more beautiful than a film actress, Nandkisore!", Buaji said.
"Aur naahin to kaa? Ash, Deepika, Kareena, Rani, all bill have to sit at home, covering their phaces (faces) in their pallu. Our Aarti Bitiyaa ijj here!", declared Mamiji.
The knock at the door saw Arnav there in white sherwani looking handsome. Seeing his family all decked up and smiling made him smile too.
He had come to alert them that it was time to go to the venue. Seeing his Khushi in bright blue Banarasi sari his heart fluttered!
Pulling Khushi aside he let the rest go down, where Nani, NK, Anand and Akash were waiting!
Answering Khushi's querry as to why she is being held back he replied whether there should be any reason to talk to his wife. She too who had been waiting for a moment with him was glad and smiled. She asked him what he wanted to talk about with a knowing smile.
"Born to be wild; born to be free; nobody owns you; you are, a romantic tree" ~ Santosh Kalwar
Arnav with a serious face said that he had two things that were important to tell her. Firstly he would be driving, her, Aarti, Payal and his Di to the venue.Seeing his face her smile vanished and she asked him what was the next one. Being a master strategist and a shrewd businessman, making her let go of her guard swooped down to kiss her on her neck and said this was his important second work!
"I give her the only honest and true answer I have. "You're where I want to be"
~ Simone Elkeles, Leaving Paradise
Giving a brilliant smile he asked the startled Khushi whether she was ready to join the rest?
"Posy and pearls
Amethyst and gold
Forever you and I
Our precious love to hold"~ Astrid Alauda
In this update we find doting love of a mother, doting love of a mother-in-law, doting love of sisters'-in-law Khushi, Payal and Anjali, doting love of Buaji towards Aarti. We also find the doting love of Arnav towards his wife Khushi and Khushi who adores him too lapping up his love.
Moreover don't we adore these characters! I can also assure we, all the readers including yours truly, adore the writer too!
