What a cracker of an episode!!! It was high-voltage drama all the way...I was a happier audience today.

If a child lives with approval, he learns to like himself
...If a child lives with criticism, he learns to condemn...

Prashant is literally sprinting toward the precipice for his ultimate fall. A mother's curse finally comes into expression...Seeing Prashant's maniacal behavior, Shobha doing his final rites flashed through my mind. I have never been able to absolve Shobha completely of her antagonistic behavior whenever Prashant turned dark...Mothers never denounce their children. Howsoever evil a child turns, that is one channel he always wants to see open so that if ever he/she decides to walk back, there's a path to redemption. When he wanted the understanding and support of his mother, Shobha preached, taunted, compared him with another, threw his incapabilities on his face, showed bias toward the other child, and even wished him dead. When he needed understanding, she gave him hostility...So, when he was bad, instead of reverting to good, he turned worse!!! If it was her duty to cure his physical ailment and get him back on his feet, then it was also her duty to nurture his soul and heal him from any mental malaise. Slowly but surely her lack of apathy toward his needs turned him completely...and the nudge became the shove. Dubeyji on the other hand tried to be there for him, even when he was completely backing Aarti. He never outed Prashant for Aarti...and compartmentalized the problems of the two children. It is evident that in his formative years Prashant manipulated his parents just as now he is manipulating people to claim his own, albeit in a more sinister manner. The imbalance in Dubeys' parenting caused Prashant's psychopathic tendencies to flourish. Of course, Dubeys never understood that it was a sickness...a sickness that thrived and deepened with rejection and denunciation. As long as he rejected, it was fine...but when all the three women in his life rejected him one after the other, he toppled over. For some reason, these lines of the song "Maa" come to my mind regarding Prashant...Bheed Mein Yun Na Chodo Mujhe...Ghar Laut Ke Bhi Aa Naa Paoon Maa.../...Bhej Na Itna Door Mujkko Tu...Yaad Bhi Tujhko Aa Naa Paoon Maa.../...Kya Itna Bura Hoon Main Maa...Kya Itna Bura Meri Maa .....

If Dubeys' parenting created a monster and made their son a rebel...then the Scindias too do not fare better. The one-sided parenting and the authoritative running of the children's lives worked fine till everything was in order and everyone toed the line. But the moment the rules were flouted, ego and anger usurped the place of reasoning...and as a result we have a Scindia son turning and giving a piece of mind to his father. How is then Prashant's "Are you even my mother?" to Shobha different from Yash's painful "I didn't think you will stoop so low" to his father??...Different contexts, different individuals, but underlying angst is similar...Both broke away from their respective parents when their personal spaces were threatened and ridiculed, albeit one for the wrong and the other for the right...

Aarti does bring out the good in people. In Lalitpur, Prashant helped her out without expecting anything in return. I also feel that when Prashant would have met Aarti the first time around and brought her home to his parents, he must have looked forward for her to bridging the gap with his parents...which she did. However, Aarti turned out to be too much of his parents' daughter and he saw the purpose nullifying when he found she was molded as per their needs and not his. He always termed Aarti as selfish..."You only think of yourself" is what he threw at her even when he left her. He always turned rogue when things didn't turn according to his convenience...this behavioral problem should have been attended to and treated while it was freshly manifesting. Aarti too fell prey to his good side...just as Yash did much later when he took Prashant as his friend. Both Yash and Aarti have had troubled pasts...that made them easier "victims" to Prashant's conniving manipulations.

These were some random thoughts...There were some fantastic performances all over. I have to say that before today I hadn't seen a "Hannibal Lecter"-type classic portrayal of a villain ever on Indian TV...Vineet was so good that audiences must still be feeling the aftershocks...Gurmeet and Kratika were able foils to his villainy with some fantastic performances of their own!! These actors make me the proud viewers of PV...

Have a nice day friends.😊

Fantastic review, Indu!

Great observation. On the bold, I completely agree. There is an inherent twistedness in their son that was likely detectable from childhood, but they didn't address it or arrest at the time. At this point, I'm choosing to believe the Dubeys did the best they could with the knowledge they had. But I sense they were always out of their depth with him. His moral barometer (his ability to empathize with others, to assess the consequences of his actions, to feel real remorse) seemed to be broken quite early. By the time he reached adulthood, they were rendered helpless because he was his own moral entity. IA, Yash and Aarti's vulnerabilities, their trusting, open hearts definitely made them easy prey. While retaining their natural goodness, it'll be interesting to see how and if they quietly evolve into more cynical, suspicious individuals in the future because of their experiences with him.
P.S. Saw your update for Sparsh! I plan on reading and gushing during the course of this week. 😃

Thanks Jac...You put that so beautifully. True...Dubeys cannot be blamed for not being alert enough...It's just how we bring up kids in our society. Any kind of behavioral problem is difficult to pick up...let alone treated.

(Bold) Indeed they were out of depth. Since Shobha was overly judgmental...Dubeyji kept the backdoor channel open and became softer. They got that part right...that is that a child should always have someone to turn to. They just didn't do it in a partnership...as such Prashant took advantage of their interpersonal lack of communication. Probably they were so out of depth that when he brought Aarti home they must have wished for miracles. On the one hand, they must have thanked the Gods that Prashant fell in love with such a wonderful person and must have felt relieved and hopeful that Prashant may be on the mend...so they pinned their hopes on Aarti. On the other hand, they received their own fulfillment from Aarti...that is, as parents they received from Aarti what they always wanted from Prashant...and that probably distanced Prashant more.

Ah Jac...Sparsh is at your disposal...touch it when you want to.😃
