Part 6
"Agar ussi ne Khushi ke bachche ko maara hai toh woh humein itne saaf saaf kyun kehta ke usne Khushi ke saath kya kya galat kiya hai? Isliye mujhe lagta ke Shyam hi ne sab kuch kiya hai. (If he killed Khushi's child, why would he be so frank about what all he has done wrong with Khushi? So I think Shyam did all this.)" Arjun finished retelling Arnav and Khushi's story. "Haan sir. Shyam, Khushi ke peeche pada hua hai, toh who kabhi nahin chahega ke Khushi kisi aur ki bachche ki maa bane. Lekin koi sabooth nahin hai. (Yes sir. Shyam is after Khushi so he would never want that she becomes the mother of someone else's child. But, there's no proof.)" Riya was feeling let down that there was nothing to prove Shyam to be guilty. "Sir, maine Shyam Manohar Jha ke records ko search kiya hai. (Sir, I checked Shyam Manohar Jha's records.)" Shree was looking intently into his laptop screen as everyone crowded behind him. "Dammit! Kuch nahin hai! Yeh case solve kaise kar sakte hain?! (There's nothing. How will this case get solved?!)" Rathod screamed and slammed his fist onto the table. "Simple hai Rathod. Khushi ko pata hai ke kisne yeh kiya hai lekin woh humein bataegi nahin. Toh jab tak Khushi officer nahin ban jaaye, hum kuch nahin kar sakte hain. (It's simple Rathod. Khushi knows who did this but she won't tell us. So until Khushi becomes an officer, we can't do anything.)" Arjun had a glint in his eyes and everyone knew that he definitely had a plan.
The next six months were slow with cases for the ETF. So, after Khushi recovered fully, her training began. She learned martial arts from Riya. She learned shooting from Arjun. Shree taught her how to use computers and technology. Chotu made sure she worked out at the gym. Rathod didn't teach much. He just oversaw it all. Everyone realized that Khushi had a knack for keeping the team organized and together. So, she was put in charge of keeping track of everyone's records, schedules, and plans. She was doing work like a secretary but, she could easily kick anyone's butt by the end of the six months.
"Team. Is everyone here?" Rathod had started the meeting. "Unfortunately, yes." Arjun was sitting in a chair, reading the newspaper while Riya, Shree, and Chotu were on Shree's computer watching something. Everyone could see Khushi in the other room, shooting at targets. "Riya. Khushi toh tere aage hi bad gayi. Shooting aise karti hai jaise jalebi banati hai. (Khushi surpassed you. She shoots like she's making jalebis.)" Shree, along with everyone else, had already been victim to Khushi's sweet making skills. Khushi would bring sweets in every day and the ETF office kitchen had been stocked with everything needed to make jalebis when Khushi was upset. "Toh kya hua Shree? Main unke liye bahut khush hoon. (So what Shree? I am very happy for her.)" Riya and Khushi had been each other's support for the past 6 months. Riya looked up to Khushi like an older sister and Khushi became very fond of Riya, as well. "Yeh lo. Sab kaju katli khao. (Here. Everyone eat kaju katli (a sweet))" Chotu was holding a box of mithai in his hand while the other hand was stuffing the sweets into his mouth. "Mujhe meetha pasand nahin. (I don't like sweet foods.)" Arjun was the only one who didn't take any sweets. "Le lijiye na. Itne bure bhi nahin hai. (Take it. They're not that bad.)" Everyone's heads turned as Khushi spoke. Arjun looked at her and reached for the mithai as the phone rang.
"ETF ." Rathod, as always, picked up the phone. "Okay Sir." Rathod looked happy for the first time in six months and Khushi smiled as she took off her gun holster and sat next to Riya and Arjun. She was wearing a black tank top and black skinny jeans. Her mangalsutra hung down her neck and the only color on her was her red sindoor on her forehead. When Khushi first started with the ETF, she had refused to part with what Riya called the "anarkalis rainbow chali". Everyone had to tell her that it wasn't practical for an officer to be in any way bound from moving properly. The next day, Khushi had walked in with tight tank tops and skinny jeans. Everyone's mouth had opened in shock until, of course, Chotu wolf-whistled and Shree told her a pick-up line that brought Khushi to hysterics. Obviously, she refused point-blank to part from her mangalsutra and sindoor. Arjun and Riya understood why and they always supported Khushi when the topic came up.
"Let's go team. We finally have a case." Rathod ordered the team and they all climbed into the new, bigger ETF van. "Kahan jaa rahe hai, Sir? (Where are we going, Sir?)" Riya felt excitement as they drove off for a case the first time in 6 months. "Khanna Pharmaceuticals. Keh rahe hain ke wahan illegal drugs hai toh humein raid karma padega. (They're saying that there's illegal drugs there so we have to raid the place.)"
They went in for the raid and, if anyone had doubts if Khushi would do well in the field, they were all gone. Khushi shot down the most people and even got the owner of the company to confess. Arjun and Riya, who still wouldn't shoot, found the drugs and Rathod, Chotu, Shree got to know that the company owner was not the supplier of the drugs. "Humein iss building ke security cameras dikhao. (Show us the security cameras for this building.)" The cowering man got even more scared when Rathod screamed at him. The videos were played for the ETF team and they saw nobody walk in all day. However, Khushi saw something and told Shree to pause and zoom into one of the windows. Khushi clenched her fists and Arjun and Riya looked at each other in shock. Arjun excused himself outside and dialed a number on his phone. "Hello? Arnav? Ek problem hai jo tumhe jaan na chahiye aur mujhe tumhari madat ki zarurat hai...(There's a problem that you need to know about and I need your help...)"
