The story Madhu & RK [from Set Fire to the Rain] is set in the future where Madhu has become a lawyer and RK is well settled into his family business. The plot concerning the Exotic couple is a continuation from where we last left of.
All the merry readers who, in the spirit of skepticism, pointed out the loop holes in my idea of making Madhu the attorney (seeing as she is only a student in her respective SS), I would advise you to keep good faith in me. I assure you I stand for anything but implausible plot. At this moment, I would request you to consider the essential untimely marriage twist exempt of my usual rules of plot construction. Thus, in the name of creativity and healthy critique thereof, I invite you all to join me in my new endeavour: a coming together of Kundras from alternate dimensions.
The following chapter [and SS: Exotic as a whole] can be read as a stand alone or in conjunction with Set Fire to the Rain.
"Watch where you are going. Aankhen hain ya button", a tall man in shades lashed out on the lady he had just hit.
"I apologize. Now, please help me gather my belongings from the floor".
"Do you know who I am? Bittuji, take care of this please. I have pressing issues at hand".
"Sir, I am only asking for a courteous response to a minor social situation. I wouldn't want your time of the day otherwise".
"I am sure you just wanted in on my personal life. Can anyone leave me and my wife alone?"
"I am sorry about whatever is going on. However, I have the least bit of interest. If you would kindly move over, I need to pick up the documents you ever so abruptly dropped".
"Dekho, mere dimaag ka dahi mat banao. I am tense as is. Bittuji did you find the attorney we were looking for?"
His assistant nodded a hesitant no. R.K. flared up in the true movie star fashion.
"Here, I am a lawyer. Give this card to the poor soul who is fighting the case against your boss. I will make sure he gets his day in court", she handed her business card to the chubby P.A.
"Chief, yeh vakeel kaisee rahegi?"
"Dood peeti bacchi nahi chahiye meri Madhu ko bachane ke liye", RK shrugged her off as a distraction and continued panicking.
"How do you know my name?"
"I don't"
"You said it, Madhu"
"That is my wife's name".
"Also my name".
"Maybe this is some indication from the Gods. Chief, why don't we ask her for representation", Bittuji offered his two cents.
"Mazel tough. Let us find a reputable firm".
"I am in no position to say. However, if you are heading for an unconventional trial, I have contacts. Of course, I wouldn't want to represent an arrogant prick such as yourself but, sounds like something concerning family. Consider me a well wisher".
"I'll pass. Bittuji, get this woman out of my sight".
"Singhania & Associates, my law firm. I am a Kundra. Good day sir".
"What did you just say?" He stopped in his tracks.
"Surely my firm isn't that impressive so as to stun you and I am only a first year".
"What did you say your name was?"
"Madhubala Kundra".
RK pressed his temples with his two fingers to get his mind to stop playing tricks on him. A girl barely of legal age shared the same name and faintly resembled the love of his life.
"You are hired".
"Excuse me. Hired for what? When I gave you my card I was looking to represent the other side. I am not one to keep the bad guys out on the streets. I prosecute".
"I don't care. My wife, Madhubala Kundra, same name, better looking, is in jail. I need to get her out".
"What's the charge?"
"Murder in the first degree".
"Why would I defend this woman when I have clearly stated my conflict of morals in representing convicts".
"She shot a serial killer. He deserved to die".
"Let's grab a coffee. She will be out of jail by the end of the working day".
"I like you".
"You are old".
"It was her father".
"Why didn't she kill him sooner? By the way, you should know I am not a Harvard graduate".
"National Law, Mumbai. I had Bittuji look you up".
"You knew?"
"I carry a smartphone with me at all times".
"I had considered that bleak possibility. What I had not seen coming was, you asking you assistant to surf the web for you".
Bittuji feared a heart attack as he panted to catch up with the duo rushing to the nearest Starbucks.
"I also watch his movies for him young lady", an out of breath assistant trailed behind.
