"Omg! She's not gonna spare us!" Sharon said, as they parked the car and went inside the beautifully decorated house. "I have to see who he is. I think he really likes her. Whenever the three of us hang out, he calls her and everything. So I'm just assuming." Kria said. "Yea." Sharon said, nodding her head. They were going to go meet the couple when Kria's friend stopped to talk to them the minute they entered.
"Hey Kria! How are you? Long time!" the girl asked. "I'm good Cynthia. How are you?" Kria said. "Kri, I'm just gonna go and see them and come alright? You go see them after you talk to your friend." Sharon said, and proceeded towards the couple. But only Preetha was standing there. She walked upto her. "Hey, sorry I'm late. Got stuck in traffic." Sharon lied. "I'll kill you later for that.First I want you to meet my fianc. Stay here. He's gone for a minute. He'll be right back." Sharon said. "Yea, I'll be right back too. I got you something for the engagement. It's with Kria. I'll get it from her." Sharon said,and went back to Kria who was surrounded by more friends. "Hey, Kria. Can you give me that gift we got for her?" Sharon asked. "Yea, here it is. Did you see him? How is he? Is he good looking?" Kria asked. "No I haven't seen him yet. I just came to get the gift." Sharon said. "Okay. I'll join you in a minute." Kria said, and went back to talking. "Take your time sister!" Sharon said, smiling. She ran back to Preetha. She was looking right at Preetha. She looked really pretty in her engagement dress. She smiled looking at her. "Hey, congrats to both of you." Sharon said, and looked up at Preetha's fianc. She froze. She didn't move an inch. Her world had crashed. It was none other than HIM. Her Swayam. Or atleast she had thought that he was hers. She wanted to run away from that place. She couldn't believe this. Her heart stopped. A tear almost ran down her cheeks but she wiped it before Preetha could see. She looked up at him again and smiled a little. "Hey Sharon. Meet my fianc. Swayam Shekawat." Preetha said. "Mr.Swayam Shekawat, how are you? Long time." Sharon managed to say. Swayam stared at her with a blank expression on her face. "Shar! Long time? Does that mean you know him already?" Preetha asked. "Yea, well we used to study in school together. He was Rey's roommate. Why didn't you invite us for your engagement Swayam? I thought that you and Rey were pretty close." Sharon said, unable to talk sarcastically any further. "Swayu, why didn't you tell me? I thought you told me everything." Preetha said, locking her arms in his. Sharon looked away. "Hey! Preetha. Don't call me Swayu. Only very few people are allowed to call me that." Swayam said, looking at Sharon at the last sentence. "But I'm going to be your wife very soon. So I'll be in the few right?" Preetha asked, smiling at Swayam. "UmmâŚ.actually only my very close friends and my mother calls me that. And your not my close friend. You're my fianc." Swayam said. Sharon's heart broke even more. "Preetha,I'm sorry but I have to leave. I forgot I have some work at home." Sharon said. "Work? At home? Are you kidding me? You live alone babe! I'm pretty sure you would have finished all chores. Don't fool me. Your staying here." Preetha said. "Yea, I'm forever alone." Sharon said, looking at Swayam. "HeyâŚdon't say that." Swayam said, in a voice that only Sharon could hear. Hearing that, Sharon looked away. "Sharon! I'm pretty sure there is someone out there waiting for you. This is a big world." Preetha said. "It is a big world but the people in it, you cannot trust. Am I right, Swayam?" Sharon asked. "What..doâŚ?" Swayam started, but someone came next to them. "Sharon beti. How are you?" someone asked. She recognized the voice in an instant and turned around to look at her. Swayam's mother. She had always been Sharon's favourite. She treated Sharon better than how her own mother did. "Aunty!" Sharon said, and hugged her. "How are you? You never even talk to any of us these days." Swayam's mother said. "What's there to talk aunty? Waise bhi , some people don't even have time to contact me these days." Sharon said, looking at Swayam. She was controlling herself from crying. "Sharon, don't say that. Come here with me." Sharon's mom said. She took Sharon aside. "Sharon, I know what you must be feeling. I tried to stop his Dad from doing this. But he wasn't ready to listen to me. I'm really sorry beta. I couldn't do anything." Swayam's mom said. "Aunty. Please don't be upset. It's not your fault. It's my fault actually. I should've thought of Swayam as just a friend. There's no reason for you to be upset. You should be happy. Your son's going to get married soon." Sharon managed to say. "Don't you want it to be you standing next to him?" Swayam's mom asked. Sharon sighed. "Sometimes in life, you don't get everything you want. And you have to live with that. Before I came here, I would have thought about us getting married. But not now. I cannot change anything now. Look at how happy they are. And I don't like breaking hearts. I don't want to break my friend's heart. Swayam's moved on. And it's time for me to move on too. It was nice meeting you Aunty. Come home sometime." Sharon said. "Sharon.." his mom called but she had already gone next to Swayam and Preetha. "Hey Preetha. I really need to leave. I have so much work to do at home. Bye Preetha. And GOODBye Swayam. Have a nice time." Sharon said, looking at Swayam one last time before walking away from them. She went next to Kria. "Hey, Kri. I really need to leave. You talk to everyone and then come. But I really need to go. Right now. Don't worry. I'm not taking the car. Bye. Call me later." Sharon said, and walked further but Kria stopped her. "Hey, sharu. What's the matter? Is anything wrong? And why are you leaving now? We just came before sometime. And have you seen the guy? Is he cute?" Kria asked. "No. Everything's fine. Really. I really need to go. I promised Mom I'd help her with something. I'm sorry. And about the guy, you go see and decide for yourself." Sharon said, and ran out of the house.Kria went behind her. "Shar. Are you sure nothing's wrong?" Kria asked. "Yea.I'm positive." Sharon said, and started walking on the sidewalk. Kria watched her go.
Sharon hugged her shoulders as it was freezing. She didn't have her coat. It was in Kria's car. Sharon cried so much. Never in her life,she had imagined that Swayam would marry someone else other than her. When she was walking, she heard a car honk. "Sharon?" the person called out. She turned to the side to see her brother looking at her from inside the car. She turned away from him, wiped her tears and then went near him. "Rey? Can you please drop me home?" Sharon asked. "Ofcourse. But I thought you were coming with Kria? And why did you leave so early from there?" Rey asked. "Oh, yea. But she met a lot of friends from her college. So I didn't want to disturb her. Anyway it's a nice weather." Sharon said. "Come. Sit inside." Rey said. Sharon opened the door and sat in the passenger seat. "I know when your lying. Please tell me what happened! Have you been crying?" Rey asked. "No everything's fine. And no I haven't been crying and all. Something went into my eyes that's all." Sharon said. "Are you sure your alright? Because I feel something big's happened and your not telling me." Rey said. "Rey, nothing's happened. I told you something went into my eyes. That's all. You know I'll tell you if anything is there!" Sharon said. "Okay. We've reached. Are you sure Sharon?" Rey asked. "Thanks for dropping me.And yea I'm VERY Sure. Good night." Sharon said, and went to her apartment. Rey called Kria. "Hey, kria?" Rey said. "Yea, Rey. Now I know why Sharon left." Kria said. "Why?" Rey asked. "Because Preetha's fianc is Swayam." Kria said. "What?You've got to be joking." Rey said. "really? Cut the call and I'll send you a pic." Kria said. She sent Rey a pic. Rey couldn't believe this. He immediately went to Sharon's apartment and he knocked on the door. Sharon opened it. "What happened Rey?" Sharon asked. "Why didn't you tell me that you saw Swayam there with Preetha?" Rey asked. "Hey, there's no use talking about it. Please let him be happy. I don't want to ruin anyone's happiness." Sharon said. "And you are set to ruin your own happiness?You were behind Swayam all this time, and he does this to you?" Rey asked. "Hey, everything's fair in love and war. Haven't you heard that? Besides, I will find someone someday. Maybe I should go to mom and tell her to choose some guy for me. I will get over Swayam." Sharon said. "Sharon.." Rey started, but Sharon didn't let him finish. "Please Rey. Do you want me to be happy or not?" Sharon asked. "Ofcourse I want you to be happy. And that's why I'll talk to him." Rey said. "If you love me, you won't talk to him." Sharon said. "Why are you doing this to me?" Rey asked. "Rey..please. You have to trust me. I can handle it very well." Sharon said. "Fine. But if anything, you know I'm here for you." Rey said. "I know. I'm lucky to have a brother like you." Sharon said. "come here." Rey said, and took her in a hug. "Good night. Do you want to come over to mine and Kria's for today?" Rey asked. "No I'm fine here. Anyway I need to clean the shelf. My room's a bit messy." Sharon said. "I'll come tomorrow if you want." "Okay.Take care." Rey said. "You too." Sharon said. Rey went. Sharon closed the door and went to her room. She thought for a while and then took her phone to make a call to her mom. "Hello?" her mom said. "Yea, mom it's me Sharon." Sharon said. "Yea, Sharon. Tell me." Her mom said. "After thinking a lot, I've decided to get married Mom." Sharon said. Sharon could almost hear her mother jump up in joy. "Momm?? Are you trying to get rid of me or something? If you are, I'm already living in my own apartment you know." Sharon said. "No no. I don't hate you. I just got excited. So which guy did you like?" her mom asked. "Well, actually I didn't look at any photo. I left the envelope over there when I came yesterday. You choose someone who's good for me." Sharon said. "Are you really my daughter Sharon or am I talking to someone else?" her mom asked. "It is me. It's time that I changed. Now please select someone good enough and tell me." Sharon said. "Okay okay. I will call you tomorrow morning and tell you." Her mother said. "Okay. And mom, I'll be going to Naani's place for the weekend. It's been a long time since I went there." Sharon said. "Okay. I'll call and tell her that your coming." Sharon's mother said. "No no don't. I want to surprise her." Sharon said. "I gotta go. Good night."Sharon said, and hung up. Sharon's mother was on cloud 9. She immediately called Sharon's dad who wasn't in town. "Hello. Do you know what happened? Sharon just agreed to get married! Come here soon and we have to select a good guy for our daughter." Sharon's mom said. "What? Something's definitely wrong. I'm happy but something has happened. That's why she's saying this." Sharon's dad said. "Oh god! Don't bother about all that. She sounded perfectly fine. Just come soon." Sharon's mom said. "Fine. But still I have to talk to her. Something's definitely wrong." Her dad said.
Swayam was sitting on his bed, switching his bedside lamp on and off. He was very upset. He knew he had betrayed Sharon. But what could he do? His dad was forcing him to get engaged. He took his mobile to make a call to Sharon. But he didn't think it was a good idea. After sometime, he decided to call anyway. It went to voicemail. He tried again but it kept going to voicemail. He knew that Sharon had his number. He knew that she would have definitely saved his number when he called her the last time. He called her again but it went to voicemail again. He really needed to talk to her. He would try calling her again tomorrow.
Sharon packed and drove to her grandparents place which was three towns from where they lived. She didn't want to disturb them at night but she had to go there. The serene atmosphere around the house was the only thing she wanted. She loved her grandmom. Her mother's mother. She called her grandma Nanny, with that American accent of hers. Her grandma was the coolest person anyone could ever meet. She loved Sharon more than her mother ever did. Actually, everyone loved Sharon more than her own mom did. She rang the doorbell. Her grandma was surprised to find her there. "Sharon!!! Come in. It's so good to see you baby.Why didn't you tell me that you were coming?" her grandma asked. "Nanny, I wanted to surprise you. After all, people are surprising me a lot these days." Sharon said. "What do you mean?" her grandma asked, as they sat down on the couch. "Nothing Nanny, I just wanted to come see you." Sharon said. "I think you're here because your upset with Swayam?" her grandma asked. Sharon looked at her grandma. "NooâŚnothing like that.." Sharon said. "I know honey. You don't have to lie to me. Come here, and tell me what happened!" her grandma said, as Sharon rested her head on her grandma's lap. Her grandma patted her back. "He gotâŚ.He got..engagedâŚtoâŚsomeone elseâŚand that someone else happens to be my good friendâŚ" Sharon said. "awwwâŚ.Sharu. don't worry baby. I'm sure you'll find someone much better than him." Her grandma said. "But I want only him." Sharon said. "Sometimes in life you can't get everything honey. Don't worry. I'm sure you'll get your prince charming soon." Her grandma said. After a lot of consoling, Sharon drifted off to sleep on her grandma's lap. She woke up in the morning, spent time with her grandparents, ate delicious food made by her grandma and being there actually took her mind off things.
After 3 days, she had to leave.She was very upset to leave that place. "Keep coming here okay!" her grandpa said. "I will. Very soon." Sharon said. She hugged her grandma and grandpa and went back to her apartment. Back to her crazy life. She had left her phone at home because she didn't want to answer any calls or messages.There were so many missed calls. She started unpacking her stuff. She checked all the voicemails she received. A few were from her mother
SharonâŚ.i selected a boy for you. You have to meet him at the caf near your workplace. I forgot the name of that place but yea. His name is Ashish.
From Kria:
Hey..Shar..it's KriaâŚ.couldn't you have said that you were going to Naani's. I would have come too.
I hate youâŚ.why aren't you picking up your phone????
I need to see you. Call me when you return. I know you are still shattered by seeing him there.
Sharon shook her head. She made a mental note to call Kria later if she didn't want to be dead meat.
Next few messages were from Preetha.
Hey SharonâŚwant to meet up?
Hey, I came to your house but it was locked. Hope to see you soon. Need to see the designs for my wedding dress.
When Sharon heard the wedding dress part, she stopped unpacking for a second. "Sharon, stop it. She's your friend. You should be happy. He's not Yours." She said to herself and then went back to unpacking.
Hearing the next message, she stopped whatever she was doing. It was from HIM. She never expected him to call her.
Hey Sharon. I know your mad at me. You have the right to be. But I need to see you. Please? I have to talk to you. Explain things. Please tell me some place where we could meet.Hope to see you soon. I love you.
Hearing his voice, she didn't know what came over her but she dialed his number. He immediately answered. "Hello Sharon??" he asked.
"Listen Swayam. It doesn't matter if I'm mad at you or not. All I know is that I'm hurt and YOU hurt me. I don't want to see you. Don't want to talk to you alright? That girl who you're getting married to happens to be a good friend of mine and I don't want you breaking her heart, do you get that. And don't ever tell me that you love me because if you EVER loved me, you would be marrying me now, not someone else. Good bye Swayam. I hope your happy. Really happy." She said, letting out all her anger, pain and all emotions. She didn't give Swayam a chance to reply. She hung up the phone. She threw her phone with so much speed that it would have broken into pieces but luckily it fell on the couch and nothing happened. She was so angry. Even though she said it was okay if Swayam got married, she knew she was lying. She wasn't OKAY. She would never be.
