Bollywood churns out the maximum number of movies every year, but only one of them beats all others and becomes the biggest grosser of the year.

Salman SRK Aamir Hrithik Sunny

Salman Khan – SRK – Aamir Khan – Hrithik Roshan – Sunny Deol

Delivering the biggest grosser of the year also means your movie is watched by the maximum number of people in that particular year on the big screen. In this day and age, with prices of movie ticket soaring, piracy and various options for entertainment (like television), it's tough to bring audiences to theatres.

Hence, topping the 'biggest grosser list' is nothing short of a major achievement. Below is a list of all major actors today and the count of the biggest grossers of the year to their credit. (Last 25 years only):

Salman KhanShahrukh KhanAamir KhanHrithik RoshanSunny Deol
1Maine Pyaar Kiya (1989)DDLJ (1995)Dil (1990)Kaho Na Pyaar Hai (2000)Border (1997)
2Saajan (1991)Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998)Raja Hindustani (1996)Koi Mil Gaya (2003)Gadar (2001)
3Hum Aapke Hain Kaun (1994)Devdas (2002)Ghajini (2008)Dhoom 2 (2006)
4Hum Saath Saath Hain (1999)Veer Zaara (2004)3 Idiots (2009)

5No Entry (2005)Om Shanti Om (2007)

6Dabangg (2010)

7Bodyguard (2011)

8Ek Tha Tiger (2012)

Some interesting unknown facts:

  • Salman Khan leads his contemporaries by a distance with a staggering count of 8 (9 if we include Kuch Kuch Hota Hai).
  • What makes it even more special for Salman is the fact that, he is the ONLY superstar with two biggest grossers of the decade. Maine Pyaar Kiya and Hum Aapke Hai Kaun were the biggest grossers of the 80s and 90s respectively.
  • Apart from the 5 biggest hits of the year to his credit, Shah Rukh Khan has given the 2nd biggest hit of the year for a record 8 times – Deewana (1991), Karan Arjun (1995), Dil To Pagal Hai (1997), Mohabbatein (2000), Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham (2001), Kal Ho Na Ho (2003), Main Hoon Na (2004) and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (2008).
  • Salman has delivered Top 2 biggest grossers of the year three times. Hum Saath Saath Hain and Biwi No. 1 in 1999, Bodyguard and Ready in 2011, Ek Tha Tiger and Dabangg 2 in 2012 (expected).
  • Ajay Devgn has three 2nd biggest grosser of the year to his credit. Phool Aur Kaante in 1991, Pyaar to Hona hi Tha in 1998 and Golmaal 3 in 2010.
  • Akshay Kumar came close to giving the biggest hit of the year as many as 4 times. Mohra in 1994, Welcome in 2007 were the 2nd biggest hits while Singh is King and Rowdy Rathore came 3rd in 2008 and 2012 respectively.
  • 2006 belonged to Hrithik Roshan as Dhoom 2 and Krrish were the 1st and 2nd biggest hits of the year respectively.

aamir has 4 in 24 years

It seems impossible for any other Khan to beat Salman's record. Hrithik has fetched an impressive record considering he's only a decade old in Bollywood. Aamir can't beat Salman but will edge out SRK in this list with D3 and PK (nothing can stop these films from becoming top grossers of their years of release, you can't go wrong with Dhoom franchise and a Raju Hirani film).

SRK ruined it with his own hands so what to say. CE is still okay but HNY? Really? A Farah Khan film? Lady Luck save him!

It may work but it can't be huge. Certainly not huge enough to beat PK. Times have changed now. Rajkumar Hirani was always a force to reckon with but now he has even more credibility in India and internationally whereas Farah is just a butt of jokes. MHN and OSO succeeded when other Khans were on break or went through bad phases in which they weren't taking their career seriously.

But scenario has changed totally now. Aamir has PK. And Salman will also ensure he doesn't lose his top slot, he'll try his best to maintain his success streak.

HNY is the worst film to choose at this age and stage of his career. They think they can compete with others with this? Or give an ATBB or year's biggest hit with this?

LMAO..🤣..so the success of MHN and OSO does not belong to Shahrukh...but it belongs to Salman and Aamir because they were not taking their careers seriously...😆😆...So applying the same logic ...lets say that Salman's movies are doing good now ...not because of him but because SRK and Aamir are not taking their careers seriously😆😆
Some of you Salman fans never cease to amaze me😆😆

SRK has been more consistent than the other 2 Khans. SRK's career graph has been a bit shaky the past few yrs, so it's no surprise seeing none of his recent films being a top grosser.

No Entry was a multi starrer. That film solely did not belong to Salman..it's funny how the person who wrote this article didn't put KKHH in Salman's list which people fondly remember Salman being a part of..yet didn't hesitate to put a film like No Entry which probably was a top grosser..but nothing worthwhile mentioning. Basically, if you take No Entry out, then Salman Khan didn't have a top grosser for 10 yrs until Dabangg happened. Just goes to show you where his career was going..

Aamir too had a gap of 12 yrs between Raja Hindustani & Ghajini. I guess you have to give it to Hrithik for his films competing with such big actors. More or less, my point of SRK being more consistent until recently still remains...and at a time where mostly mindless films are top grossers..don't think there's room for anything else to click with such audiences.

And thats why Salman is doing good...not my logic though😆😆

Why is Happy New Year a bad project for Sharukh?

Do we even know who else is casted and what the plot is going to be like?

Why the premature hate for this movie?
