Yo! Yo! Honey Singh tops the chart of trending videos of 2012

Punjabi rapper Yo! Yo! Honey Singh became a global sensation with his superhit songs Brown Rang, High Heels, Angrezi Beat, Lak 28 Kudi Da and many others. Zooming up the charts with a lot of jazzy and foot-tapping songs, this Punjabi rap has earned two places on YouTube's list of Top 10 trending Indian videos of 2012. While, without a doubt Honey Singh tops the list, we take a look at all the other videos that became a phenomenon on Internet with millions of hits on YouTube.

Yo! Yo! Honey Singh's catchy song Brown Rang from the album International Villager has topped the list.

Second on the list is Korean rapper Psy's Oppa Gangnam Style!. 34-year-old rapper Psy rocketed to fame since his Gangnam Style video, in which he performs his famous horse-riding dance, became a worldwide hit following its release in July 2012.

Next on the list is Salman and Katrina's song Mashallah from their film Ek Tha Tiger. Their sizzling chemistry in the song got rave reviews from fans and critics.

At number four is again Punjabi rapper Honey Singh's foot tapping song High Heels.. It goes like...

At number five is the song Tumhi Ho Bandhu from the movie Cocktail. The song is even reckoned as the youth anthem of 2012.

The trailer of filmmaker Yash Chopra's last film Jab Tak Hai Jaan has bagged number sixth position. Picturesque locales, intense poetry, enviable costumes, Shah Rukh Khan's dimpled cheeks, his passionate lover avatar, teamed with Katrina Kaif's flawless beauty, and Anushka Sharma's effervescence- the trailer of Jab Tak Hai Jaan regales with all this and garnered many likes with record breaking hits.

At seventh number is the song Ye Jism Hai To Kya from Pooja Bhatt's film Jism 2.The song has been sung by Pakistani singer Ali Azmat and filmed on smouldering Sunny Leone seducing Randeep Hooda and Arunoday Singh. The song had caught on online within a few hours of being released.

The trademark romantic song, reminiscent of Yash Raj Films, Saans from Jab Tak Hai Jaan scored the eight position. The duet is sung by Mohit Chauhan and Shreya Ghoshal. The song became viral within a few hours of its release.

Number ninth is the musical treat from the movie Cocktail. The song Daaru desi featuring Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone and newbie Diana Penty became a huge hit.

The last one on the top 10 YouTube Indian videos 2012 is the song Chinta Ta Ta Chitta Chitta from Akshay Kumar's film Rowdy Rathore. The rustic touch of this song clicked with the masses!

The singer earns two places on YouTube's list of top 10 trending videos of 2012

The rest of the world might be dancing to Korean rapper Psy's Gangnam Style but not India. Here, it's Punjabi rapper Honey Singh who's top of the pops, zooming up the charts with his bhangra beats given a modern update with electropop and hip-hop sounds.

Yo! Yo! Honey Singh, as he likes to be called, earns two places on YouTube's list of top 10 trending videos of 2012. His song Brown Rang makes it to top spot and High Heels, in collaboration with Jaz Dhami, takes fourth spot.

Honey Singh, born in Hoshiarpur on March 15, 1984, studied music in the UK's prestigious Trinity School and began his career as a session musician. He then began to produce bhangra tracks and hit big time when the 2006 song Ch**t went viral on YouTube within days of being released. Lak 28 Kudi Da, in collaboration with Diljit Dosanjh, topped the BBC's Asian Download Charts in May 2011.

On November 11, 2011 - a date that reads 11.11.11 - Honey Singh released his album International Villager and his transformation from folk singer to pop star was complete. The album featured a number of hit songs. Gabru topped Asian music charts including iTunes and BBC. Angreji Beat was featured in 2012's hit movie Cocktail starring Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone. And Brown Rang is this year's smash hit on YouTube.

Honey Singh was quickly snapped up by Bollywood, with a debut song in 2011 comedy Shakal Pe Mat Ja. In 2012, he sang for Ajay Devgn's Son Of Sardaar, Akshay Kumar's Khiladi 786 and the Anurag Kashyap-produced Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana. He has songs coming up in the movies Race 2 and Mastaan, for which he has reportedly received the highest fee ever paid for a Bollywood song.

On December 12, 2012 - or 12.12.12 - Honey Singh's first solo single Satan was released and premiered on MTV India. The video, which features the rapper wielding a whip on hapless slaves, registered 2,60,000 hits on day one.

Back home in Punjab, Honey Singh received awards for Best Sound in 2006 for the song Glassi, Best Folk Pop in 2009 for Rebirth and an award for Best Music Director. He's also dabbled in acting, appearing in Punjabi films Mirza - The Untold Story and Tu Mera 22 Mein Tera 22.
