The snow fell heavily as I walked through the roads of Hrishikesh with my oversized duffel bag hanging from my shoulder. The chilling wind embraced me and I could feel the coldness of the powdery white snow beneath me making me shiver.
I stopped to sit down on a small bench waiting for the train to arrive. Taking out a shawl from my bag, I wrapped it around me, trying to protect myself from the frozen flakes flowing all over me. I was completely exhausted from the two hour walk from my house to the station. My feet were sore, my hair was messy and my clothes caked with snow. A tear pricked my eye as I stared out towards the isolated station.
"Excuse me miss, are you okay?" My head suddenly jerked up and I noticed a tall, lean man standing over me. He looked around my age, maybe a year older than me. His jet black hair was slightly messy from the wind and I could see his golden orbs staring down at me. He tilted his head at me as he continued to stare at me with a concerned look on his face.
"Go away." I muttered as I turned away from him. Yes he was cute, maybe even hot but that doesn't mean I wanted someone to pity me as I sat there drowning in my own tears.
"You look like you could use a friend right now" the mysterious hot stranger gave a loop sided smile and he sat down beside me on the bench.
"Are you deaf, did you not hear me the first time? Leave me alone." I said in an irritated voice. I stood up, taking hold of my bag and started to walk off towards a small cafe. I could sort out my own problems, I didn't need anyone else. And not a stranger anyway.
"Hey, wait up." He shouted and turned around to see him following me. Great, this mysterious guy just had to pick me to stalk. "Listen, don't get the wrong ideas. I'm just trying to help okay." He placed his hands in his pocket and I could make out his toned and muscular body.
"I don't need help, I don't need anyone and I don't need you" I snapped as I carried on walking. I could hear his footsteps behind me, trying to catch up with me.
I noticed a small dhabba opposite me and I walked over towards it.
"Can I get a mug of hot chocolate please." I said, taking out a few coins from my purse.
"Make that two please." The stranger stood beside me, grinning at me.
"I thought I told you to leave me alone."
"Hey, I'm Virat." He said as his grin widened. He placed out a hand and looked at him in confusion. I stared at him for a moment before sighing and giving him a small smile.
"Manvi." I shook his hand and instantly felt his warm hand. There was something about him which made me forget about all my problems. Maybe I did need someone right now.
We both took our hot chocolates and sat down on a nearby bench.
"So, what is a beautiful girl like you in tears and that too in the freezing cold? Boyfriend break up with you?" he took a sip of his drink and then looked at me.
"I ran away from home." I looked away from him and took a sip of the hot chocolate, the warm drink soothing my insides.
"Really?"
"Yeah, my parents are arranging my marriage with someone from America. I don't even know who he is or what he looks like. I still haven't even opened the envelope which contains his photograph"
"That sucks; I totally know how you feel like."
"What do you mean?" I looked up at him in confusion.
"My parents are arranging mines too, told me that I had to get married or else I won't be able to be part of the family business and I won't be able to inherit the family wealth." He chuckled and I smiled, feeling glad that there was someone who could understand me.
"My parents told me they would abandon me if I didn't agree. So here I am, running away from them before they got the chance to disown me." I shrugged and wiped a tear from my eye.
"You know you should do what's best for you. Don't let anyone else take control of your life. It's you that's going to be spending the rest of your life with someone. It should be with someone you want, not someone you hardly know"
"That's exactly what I want to do, and exactly what I am going to do. So where are you off to?" I asked curiously.
"Anywhere else but here." He shrugged casually and then stood up. "My train should be here now. Mark my words Manvi, you don't any regrets in life." Virat winked at me and stood up.
"I will do." I whispered. "Thank you Virat."
"Don't mention it." saying that he leaned in closer to me and kissed me softly on the lips. It was gentle and soft and I could feel the electricity jolt through me as he his hand caressed my cheek slowly. We pulled apart and he smiled at me before walking away into the distance.
I sat back down on the bench mesmerized by what had just happened. I placed a finger on my lips still feeling the tingling sensation.
I could hear the train starting to appear and I stood up taking my duffel bag with me. As I started to walk, something dropped out of my bag. I leaned down and picked up a small envelope. It was the same envelope that contained a picture of the man I was going to marry. Curiously I opened up the untouched envelope.
I gasped as I stared down at the picture in my hand. It was a picture of Virat. He was smiling back at me, that same cute loop sided smile. My eyes widened as I stared at the picture. I looked around and ran towards the train station. His train had already left. Virat was gone. He was gone forever.
America, 1 year later...'
I moved through the busy streets of New York, moving swiftly through the crowd. It was snowing heavily, and busy Christmas shoppers were making their way around.
I held onto my cup of hot chocolate and moved out of the crowd when I was suddenly felt someone barge into me from behind me.
"Watch where your go...'" I stopped dead in my tracks as I looked at familiar person staring down at me. "Virat." I whispered as I looked at him. He hadn't changed at all. He still had those amazing hazel orbs and the sweet smile and the messy hair.
"It's nice to see you again Manvi." He cupped my cheeks before sweeping me into his arms and kissing me softly on my lips.
