Thanks to the new genre of TV that besides the saas-bahu drama it has paved way for some steaming romance stories, mythological serials and some groundbreaking shows. Let's sneak into the joy ride of serials in year 2012.
Satyamev Jayate- Aamir Khan doesn't believe in "doing it small and decent". The man debuted on TV only to steal away the show and steer the entire nation his way. With 13 episodes, for three months Aamir's show, Satyamev Jayate jostled the nation and brought out our stark naked picture at front, by revealing the remorse tales of kids, health issues, treatment of females, dowry, casteism, and religion.
The one we know, we understand but not liberated enough to discuss. Not only nation, his episodes grave topics jolted the politicians, social activists, film and TV fraternity, media houses.
Devon Ke Dev...Mahadev- Apologies in advance but someone cried out "What a hot Shiv ji"!!!! and I rolled out eyes too!! But after a long time such a show was featured where I find it difficulty in nit picking. Rather costumes, language, characterization, story-line, facts, writer and director, the ingredients were all too amazing. With Mohit Raina, I certainly started imagining Lord Shiva Ji to be like him.
Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon?- Arnav and Khushi were the uncrowned king and queen of Star Plus and all TV shows. Their steaming chemistry, the love hate relationship and Khushi's filmy dialogues and a small town girl nuisances were an impeccable source of entertainment.
When Barun decided to quit, the channel better decided to draw the curtains. The popularity can be imagined by the huge cry-outs made by fan across the social media, print media and of course endless calls and emails to channels, but alas in vain.
Madhubala-Ek Ishq Ek Junoon- The serial was started to mark the 100 years of Indian cinema with a strong star cast and a story outlined in Bollywood.
Drishti Dhami and Vivian's flaring chemistry did wonders among the audience and is still gripping them hard as the serial is progressing from their hatred to love. Still the channel is banking on the sexual tension between the duo and sure its going to last for few weeks. Can't leak the spoilers!!!!
Bade Achhe Lagte Hain- Though it did not account for channel TRP's, but their popularity remains at peak, thanks to the large fan following base. Ram Kapoor, Sakshi tanwar and Peehu are much awaited on screens.
The five year leap was risky, but it went well in favour of serials as viewers enjoyed a tycoon Ram Kapoor chicken out for his wife and kid. There were rumours of Ram quitting the show, but fans breathed relief when they were proved "nothing but rumours".

know Salman Khan is too awesome... Shahrukh is amazing, Ranbir Kapoor is super cute and list goes on... I know they are great. But these are not the faces who accompany us to the dinner tables and fit into our living room!!! The day is not complete till the time I don't see Arnav shooting a dare look at someone (alas he is gone!)... Or a strong headed RK bugging Madhu ... A shy Yash drooling over his wife... or an arrogant Asad lost in his work and family. One of the guy in our list has also bagged a position in 50 Sexiest Asian Men list, I am sure you will shout in unison that Barun Sobti is well deserved.
These are the faces that have changed the meaning of TV recently and it is not a plot for Saas-bahu drama for TRPs. In fact, daring intimate scenes, romantic divulges, and the arrogance which bring a life to show!!!! They are carrying the show their on shoulders not vice versa.
Barun Sobti This guy has created history on TV. The character of an arrogant business tycoon, mostly clad in suits, light beard, intense eyes, who sees nothing beyond his work, with some tight expressions on his face and excellent chemistry with Sanaya Irani and some raunchy intimate scenes in IPKKND were enough to raise "Arnav Singh Raizada aka ASR fever".
The rest is history as his popularity can be well judged when he decided to quit, fans in frenzy started online e-petitions, emails and phone calls to channels pouring their heart out, crying and threatening, just like a daily soap maa would do!!!
Gurmeet Chaudhary I won't compare him to Salman Khan as the guy has carved a niche for himself on small screen and a big one, I must say. But this one believes in skin show I must say and the channel has never been hesitant to exploit him as visual treat.
The endless bare chest scenes of Yash in Punar Vivah, displaying his perfect bod, abs and biceps is just what people were looking for on small screen. Their own Salman Khan at home.
Gurmeet plays a guy with tough looks and tender heart and even daddy image has not hampered his popularity on the TV. In fact with ever changing trends, he is the perfect image of "hot daddy" in town!!!
Vivian D'Sena He is actually a bloodsucking monster in this one, Madhubala sipping on Madhu's blood!!! But thanks to spongy Madhu who soaked all his hurt from past and presented a better side of RK- The Superstar. Arched looks, sharp cheekbones, and the best his burlesque "biwi" calling, just make girls swoon and swear in his name!!
His awkward love-hate relationship with the female protagonist, his character of a misanthrope has only added to RK's charm.
Karan Singh Grover He is back on small screen after a li'l extra break. But that is what we can spell "back with vengeance" in "Qubool Hai". Another arrogant tycoon in line, prominent looks, but unlike others, Karan Singh has already millions of female fan following who are glad to have him back on small screen.
The character of a conservative Muslim guy "Asad" is suiting him well and with his hot bod he is surely fetching TRP's. The serial is just a few episodes old, but thanks to KSG its a hot property these days on Zee TV.
Aamir Khan He needs a special mention on TV. Aamir created history on Tv with his show Satyamev Jayate as he brought out the ugly pictures of our society one by one. He squeezed us out of our metro and progressive through his heart wrenching episodes of prevailing social issues.
None could beat his style of a simple shirt and jeans and intense looks. When he interacted with sufferers or questioning the wicked minded people, one could easily make out that Aamir understands the reality between black & white.
