Survivor's Instinct(Part 11)
Angad had tried to search Kripa after the night which he had thought was the beginning of their lives together. He had searched everywhere, even Kappa and Yuvi were not aware of where she had gone. It had been like one moment she was there and the next she had vanished. It still felt like a dream, but it had not been.
He was sure Kappa and Yuvi knew where she was, but for some reason they didn't tell him. After that they had grown distant, though they their firms had not demerged but they operated as different entities with different decision making bodies. Dadi had been his only support at the time. He had been devastated. But there had not been anyone to share his thoughts with. He had always been a loner. With Kripa he had found the other half of his soul.
After searching for her in vain for 2 years he had lost hope, but he had not stopped looking. He was furious with her for leaving him as she did, and puzzled as to why she did. He did not know whether he loved her or not, but he was still obsessed with her. He would find her and make her pay for all those lonely nights and days when she should have been by his side and was not.
He had become a workaholic. When once he had restricted the expansion and built a niche where his company operated in, now he ate from different plates. He had expanded into various businesses apart from HR consulting. He had taken inorganic route to grow. He had acquired various firms to move into different segments.
For one such business opportunity, he was going to Indore. The Mergers and Acquisitions team of his company was eyeing an event management firm. It was a fairly new firm. It had started business just 5 years ago, but had grown at a growth rate higher than the country average. His team had met with one of the owners, and she was willing to discuss it other partner. The partners name was nowhere in the books. It was as if the other partner didn't exist, the same as Kripa. What intrigued him most was the name of the firm, Aashaye. It was the same as the one Kripa and her friend had planned to open in Delhi but had not. He didn't remember the name of her friend, but his gut was telling him this was it, that he had found Kripa. All his questions will be answered now. Those green eyes which had haunted his dreams will not evade him any further.

Kripa was busy looking at brochures of various caterers providing Rajasthani food for a wedding they have to organize in February. Their regular caterer had not suited the client's needs. So Kripa would be asking for samples from other caterers and selecting the better ones to display them for client's perusal. The customers were the people from whom there bread and butter came, so though she had been disappointed that her regular caterer was out, but it had not dampened her enthusiasm to provide the best to her client. She had considered it a challenge, and she thrived on challenges.
It was fascinating to deal with both the people and their moods and preferences and the nitty-gritty of the business. Just as she has made the list of the caterers she would contact, Naina entered. She had been out of town for the previous week. They had been offered a deal to merge with Teetotalers, one of the giants of event management. Naina had gone to talk with the people involved in the deal.
Kripa was skeptical regarding, the move but Naina considered as a move which will take them to new heights. Maybe that was what she was afraid of, if they became visible, and then Kripa will no longer be able to remain anonymous. But isn't it time to stop hiding and face him. She wasn't the one who had been wrong, it was him. Maybe it was time she met him again. Ansh was also asking more frequently about his dad. She had always told him about Angad. But now he wanted to know why his dad didn't live with him, when the dads of his friends did. She had wanted to save him from hurting as she had been, but maybe she was hurting him more by keeping him separate from Angad.
"Hello ma'am, where have you gone to?"
"No nothing how was the week?"
"Fantastic, I think they are offering us a good deal. We can operate independently and we will not be asked to change the work procedures and there will be no lay-offs. I have still not met the promoter but he is coming this week, to meet with us both."
"But I told you keep me out of it. I don't want to meet with anyone until it's absolutely necessary. Just keep me in the loop."
"It was one of the conditions. He will not go ahead with the deal until he has met with you."
Kripa had a bad feeling about this. It was weird. Why would anyone base the business decision on meeting with her? It did not make sense.
"Can't we avoid it?"
"I will try. But he was adamant about the meeting."
"When is he coming?"
"On Wednesday."
"I cannot meet with him on Wednesday. I have the commitments which I don't want to get out of."
"I will talk to his secretary about it, let's see."
Kripa didn't like it. She didn't like it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Ma, where are you? I am back from school." Kripa was startled from her thoughts. Prithvi always goes to pick Ansh up from the bus stop, but she always had some snacks ready for him. Today she had been preoccupied after what Naina had told her.
"Oh baby, what do you want to eat?"
"Chocolate chip muffin."
"Okay, first Ansh will change and wash, then he will have a glass of orange juice, then we will go to Cakes N More and get the chocolate muffin for my baby boy."
"Ma, can I have banana shake instead of orange juice?"
"Okay, whatever my baby wants."
"Ma, I am not a baby. I am 4."
"Okay big boy, now go and wash. Ma has kept your clothes on the bed."
"I know Ma, you always do."
"Keep your shoes in the shoe rack and your school clothes in the laundry bag."
"Okay Ma." But she knew he will not. He was always in hurry; he could not stay at one place at all. Even when he tried to read from his favorite story books he didn't stay still. And since last week, he had started learning to skate, it had become worse. But he was very particular about staying clean. So he will wash and brush his teeth too for good measure. But nobody will make a mistake of calling him tidy.
She made banana shake for her Ansh and arranged some cookies in a plate to go with it. Then she went to tidy after him. As expected everything was thrown on the floor and Ansh can be heard splashing water in the bathroom.
It was a daily activity for her, but every time she picked after him, she felt giddy. He was such a special being, so small; she had never felt such love for anybody else that it made her existence worthwhile. He was her whole world, without him she would not have survived.
as promised...enjoy
The Prince who loved the white dress(Part 12)
And it was Wednesday again; time to meet her 6 year old angels. Nothing could dampen her happiness, especially not an upcoming visit from a mysterious stranger. His secretary had asked for a morning appointment, but she would not reschedule her story hour for the archangel himself. The follow up call had not come, so she had assumed either the deal was off or he had decided the meeting was not worth it after all.
"What do we do today?"
"Ma'am, you have to tell us what happened after the prince dragged Panchi to the garden."
"That is pretty boring, how about I read Cinderella instead."
"No, no, miss, we want to hear what happens next in the prince who loved the white dress."
"Okay, let's first read Cinderella for 45 minutes, then I will tell you what happens next in the prince who loved the white dress."
"But miss, why not the white first?"
"Because I love Cinderella; so I want to read it."
"Okay."
And so she began. It was fun, to read a story she has read thousands of times, and answer the questions raised by the tiny souls. It gave her a new perspective on how one story can be interpreted in different ways. What Cinderella could have done differently? What would she have done, if she had been born in the twenty first century? How she could have communicated with the prince on face book and twitter. How she could at least have dropped a mail about her whereabouts?
She had hoped to make it through the story hour by reciting Cinderella. She had been positive, that with their inquisitive questions that would be easy. But she had underestimated the little tykes.
"Ma'am, now tell us what happens next in the prince who loved the white dress."
"But we have not finished with Cinderella."
"Next Wednesday, ma'am," they chorused.
She was trapped.
"Okay, where was I?"
"The prince was really angry, that Panchi hadn't told him she was a girl."
"And he dragged her to the palace garden."
"Okay, the prince just kept looking at her."
"When Panchi tried to go back to the ball, he trapped her within his arms and kept looking in her eyes."
"Then what happened."
"Then Panchi kissed the prince, didn't she Kripa?" said the man whom Kripa had hoped not to see again in this life or next.
"But why would she kiss the prince? Panchi didn't like the prince. She said he was arrogant, an archangel, and he was bad because he didn't do what God told him to." This came from Rudra, the adorable geek who didn't like to be hugged.
But Kripa had stopped listening, she was watching her archangel. His mouth was moving, so he must be saying something, but her ears were buzzing.
Then the archangel disappeared from her view and instead she saw a tiny hand with a Barbie charm in front of her face.
"Kripa ma'am, this man is saying that you liked him but just didn't admit it," said Pihu. Her name finally snapped her out of her reverie, and she said, "No, Panchi didn't like the prince."
"But ma'am; do you like this man?"
"No, I don't." Angad just raised his infuriating eyebrow and indicated that he will be waiting outside for her.
"Okay guys, the story hour is up. I brought clairs for all of you guys."
"But ma'am, why did Panchi kiss the bad prince?"
"I will tell you why, next week. Now come on who wants an clair?"
Though she hugged, kissed and gave those chocolates, her mind on the archangel waiting for her.
When she was finally done with her goodbyes, she ventured outside. There stood Angad, reclining against his car. She didn't have much knowledge about cars, she was happy with her second hand Maruti Zen, but still one cannot help but notice his car. It was the latest Renault SUV, the car she had hopes of buying in maybe 6 more years. She was amazed, it was not a BMW or a Ferrari; he liked fast cars. But what did she know; maybe he had changed in 5 years.
Before she could say anything, Angad asked, "Why did you kiss me if you didn't like me?" Kripa was amazed at the frontal attack, but he was not finished, "You kissed the frog, and when he turned into a prince, the princess vanished. So, why did you vanish in thin air, Kripa?"
"There is a coffee shop nearby lets go there."
"By all means let's be civilized." With that cryptic statement, he opened the passenger door and made her sit in the car. Instead of going to the caf she had mentioned they went to his hotel, where he grabbed his room key and took her up to his suite. He made her sit on the couch and went to the drinks cabinet.
"Do you want a drink?"
"No, thank you."
"So polite. I will have one, I need it."
When Angad had taken a stiff drink, he asked Kripa whether she had had lunch.
"No," Kripa replied.
"Then order something on room service for us both. I need a shower." With that he left her in the sitting room and went to the bedroom for his shower.
Kripa didn't know what to do. Ansh would be back from school in 15 minutes, and she was trapped. She knew if she didn't resolve this here and now, Angad would come searching for her at her office or maybe at her home, and she didn't want him to meet Ansh, not yet.
