No more Balaji soaps for Sony?
Ektaa Kapoor is upset that her creative head has joined the channel.
If industry insiders are to be believed, soap queen Ektaa Kapoor is irked with her creative head Sandiip Sikcand after he quit the Balaji camp. After Sandiip joined as the chief creative director of Sony, Balaji has refused to give any shows to the channel for the next one and a half years.
Sandiip confirms, "It is true that we are not getting Balaji shows and the only Balaji show 'Kaisa Yeh Pyaar Hai' has gone off air. The doors are not closed for them, but if Balaji doesn't want any new shows on our channel it is entirely Ektaa's call. I cannot force her."
Sandiip, who has been trying to concentrate more on daily soaps for the channel says, "I think we have been neglecting that area for some time now. We are planning to start at least 8-11 shows in the months to come."
However, it's an irony that the new show, 'Kaajjal', on Sony follows the Balaji formula. Not only is the protagonist a woman, the name starts with the alphabet 'K' and has an extra 'a' and 'j' to it. "I consult an astrologer for everything. It helps," he smiles.
Ask him whether the soaps on his channels are going to be any different he quips, "It has to have the rona dhona and melodrama attached to make it popular. But the women on my shows will not be super human. They will be realistic."
Ektaa was unavailable for comment, but sources in the Balaji camp have confirmed the news.
