You sent me this post today Nisha. But this is what I was saying since I heard the news of Barun quitting. I also made some posts about it and got thoroughly bashed for it. But here are my observations.
1. The grueling schedule - Barun complained that he got tired of the grueling schedule. But surprisingly he never complained about them for one year until he got his first movie offer. In fact, he always said that his team is amazing and he loves coming to set and working with his friends. Then what changed since the movie offer came in? The glitter of bollywood. Ask any man, between grueling hours and no job, what would they choose and you will know the answer. Also, the reason Barun was exhausted was not because of the show's grueling hours, but due to his attempt to keep the steady income show and the glitz of bollywood at the same time.
2. PH/SP conspiracy theory - I never denied that both their PR strategy sucked. How can their internal news gets leaked out every time until anything is settled? However, I also asked a question to everyone. SP's international fame was because of Barun and Sanaya's awesome chemistry in IPK and 4Lions reached a new height of popularity with this show. Who would want to murder a goose which lays solid gold eggs? No one. The PH ran out of ideas. So they had to ask the fans for help. But SP was not prepared to let go of their cash cow. So that conspiracy against Barun was the biggest load of bull I have ever heard and surprisingly, in this forum, when people asks for proof of any star sighting, forgot to ask for proof for that theory from so-called reliable source.
3. The show closure and the name calling - Based on all the so called conspiracy theories of which they had no proof whatsoever, they demanded the show closure. I tried to convince people that if you don't want to watch shut down your own tv. Low TRP will achieve the same purpose without making this fight dirty or unethical. But I was called names for saying that. When a crowd becomes mob, they don't want to hear reason.
Secondly, Sanaya was called some seriously ugly names when all she did was react like any human being who lost her job along with her colleagues and friends because of another person's personal decision. In fact, she was much more civilized than I expected. I would have reacted much more strongly than that.
Thirdly, I tried to tell people that if Barun is a good friend to any of them, he would feel extremely bad if the show closes because of his own personal decision. If my friends or colleagues lose their job because I left for another opportunity, I would feel terrible for them, not to mention immensely guilty. But it won't change my decision as I would have taken that decision based on my ambition. So all that ranting won't have solved anything.
Fourth, I also tried to tell them to lay off from call center employees because all they are saying is what has been told to them by their managers. So shouting and abusing them won't serve any purpose. They are not the decision makers.
Fifth, after relentless pressure from fans, the show was shut down. Because they didn't want to see Sanaya/Khushi (I still don't know which because a lot of time the line between actor and character was blurred) with anyone else. Viraaf was already hired and Barun was training him. However, people made up their mind that he won't be able to play ASR. But then again, looking at Barun's previous projects, who would have thought he would have been able to play ASR? But he did a wonderful job. You have to give people one chance at least to prove themselves.
However, we don't know how the story was written and how it could have turned out with Viraaf and new entries. All I know now is that I will always wonder, what it would have been and I will always miss IPK.
