I sometimes forget that along with Aarti, Prashant too is revisiting his past, probably for the first time since he left home, his parents, Aarti and his unborn child to be with Nida. The memories are hitting him with an equal force as they are Aarti, and it is interesting to think about this from the vantage point that both of them have moved on from their relationship together. I don't think Prashant is in love with Aarti, but the very fact that he is acknowledging that he once was is actually a big step for him. When he left her, he told her that this wasn't love at all and that he had never loved her. As much as his abandonment, I think this hit Aarti hard. The man that she had opened her heart to, to whom she had dedicated her whole life and all her love, turned around and told her that he had never loved her. But she continued to believe for five long years that he was wrong and she was right; what they had was love and she just had to wait for him to realise it and come back to her. Had Ansh not needed a father, Aarti would have waited all her life for Prashant to realise their love and come back to her. How ironically the tables have turned now. It is Prashant who is vividly remembering their love, and Aarti who is trying to deny that it ever existed. After a near-death experience, Prashant is probably taking stock of his life so far, trying to grope for anything meaningful and worthy that he has done so far, and that is where his relationship with Aarti falls.
I loved the jocular way that Prashant got out of the stressful situation with Yash, because it was so true to what we know of his character. He is a charmer who can wiggle his way into or out of any situation. It sort of goes back to how Aarti described him, as not giving enough respect to love. He doesn't give respect to anything, really and doesn't take anything very seriously. There is a distinct lack of commitment from him in anything he takes up, be it his relationship with Aarti, Nida or now, Ansh. He invests just as much of himself as is convenient to him and then lets go easily when things don't exactly work his way. I am still very suspicious about why Nida left him as the flashback scene we saw did not correlate with the explanation that she left him because of his cancer. They had been apart for months before that, and he came to ask for the house because he was running out of money. By saying that she left him because of the cancer, whether it is true or not, Prashant is villainising Nida and making Aarti the heroine of his story, even if that means he is a tragic hero who lost his love because of his hubris. Interestingly, this is the same thing that Aarti is doing with Prashant and Yash. She is villainising Prashant and making Yash her god, the man who can do no wrong, who has "only given her happiness" [yeah right]. Prashant too is remembering only the good things about Aarti, and not all the reasons he left her, which I am sure existed, whether they were valid or not.
This is what makes his advice to Yash so important. What do you see when you close your eyes? An image of something, conjured by your mind, rather than the real thing. They say love is blind, and when you close your eyes and picture the person you love, you can make them however you want, with all the good things and none of the bad. Prashant doesn't miss Aarti, he misses the idea of Aarti, a woman who is good and kind, loved him devotedly, completed his family and would stand by him through anything. I also felt like he was testing Yash whe he talked about the first love being impossible to forget. After all, he did see that picture of Arpita, and as far as he knows, that is still the only kink in the Aarti-Yash relationship. I wonder if he expected Yash to talk about Arpita, when instead he got a solid rebuttal from Yash, assuring him that Yash, though he treasured his first love's memories, was now feeling things for Aarti that he didn't think he could feel again after the first time. Prashant is a confusing character for sure as his motivations are never totally clear. I don't think he wants Aarti back at this moment, but one trigger could send him flying towards her.
Yash needed a friend, really badly, and as much as it is awkward for me as an audience member to watch him interact with Aarti's ex, I can't help but say that Prashant is not doing a half bad job. His advice may not work, but he does lend Yash a listening ear to talk about his feelings for Aarti, something he obviously can't talk about with Aarti and in which his family is too personally invested to give him a neutral hearing. Aarti and Prashant will probably have a cordial relationship at best in the future, but I think it would be really beneficial, for Ansh especially, to have one of his parents be close enough to Prashant not to make him feel guilty about liking him himself. Yash is really proud of his relationship with Aarti, and how far they have come since they married only for their children. He wants to talk about it without being rushed into it, and that is precisely what Prashant provides and why Yash ends up having verbal diarrhea every time he is around Prashant.
And how could I not love his fond description of Aarti as a little child at heart. Haven't we been saying that right from the beginning of this story? Aarti, when she is really herself, is so vulnerable and so open with her emotions and her thoughts. She jumps into something and figures out the details once she is fully immersed... just like she threw that watch in a moment of rage and regretted it so adorably when she came to her senses. Yash is beginning to be conscious of all these little details and, to his pleasant surprise, he is falling in love with each one, the more Aarti reveals of herself. I just love how Yash not questioning her action with the watch and accepting it without question, unleashed a brand new, sassy, bold Aarti. She was no longer hesitant to pass catty remarks to Yash and he didn't take them to heart one bit. In fact if anything, he enjoyed it thoroughly. This is who I have been waiting for since after the kidnapping, and of whom we have barely caught glances here and there. And this is the Aarti that Yash is in love with. He is not in love with an image of her behind his eyelids, but the living, breathing, sassing, pinching, beautiful woman right in front of them. It is not only poetic justice from the Prashant perspective, but from the Arpita perspective as well, given that in her case, Yash was in love with the image behind his eyelids for so many years.
Today's episode gave me a lot of hope for the truth revelation. For some reason I found it really heartening when Yash said that he knew Aarti wouldn't say sorry for breaking the watch, so he had come to do it for her. They are so much a unit in his mind that he is actually willing to take the responsibility for her mistakes. This is a trend that started out of obligation when he brought her back from Lalitpur, and which has now evolved into an instinct for Yash. So why do I feel like it might not be much different when the lie about the divorce and the BMT comes out? I know the scale is way off, but here too, Aarti betrayed his trust by throwing away the watch that he had told her to keep safely, shouting at him instead of confessing what she had done. Nonetheless, he perceived that she was hiding what she had done from him because, for some reason that watch, and the reminder of its owner, hurt and unsettled her so much that she acted out of character. He also knew that as soon as she came around, she would be sorry for what she had done and so he focused on what it was about the watch that was bothering her for those few moments. I hope he has the same attitude towards the divorce lie when it comes out, and asks, what made her step out of character here?
