'Don't like it, don't watch it' - Unacceptable!

Hello,

When members post their frustrations, complaints or disappointment with current/upcoming tracks, I've noticed alot of members respond with the statement "if you don't like it, don't watch it". This has sort of become a fad during the threads and I feel this response is quite unacceptable and frankly pretty useless of a response. Let me explain.

First, obviously if I don't like the show overall, I wouldn't watch it. Any sane person wouldn't sit through a soap if they really didn't like it! Time is precious and all of us have a life with other activities that take priority! So obviously it is not that I hate the complete show. I might dislike aspects of it, but that doesn't mean I don't want to watch the show at all. Moreover, everyone knows that not watching is an option. No one needs to tell me I should stop watching something if I don't like it - I know that!! 😆

Second, most of us know that us complaining or venting our frustration isn't going to change much. Yes, I'd like for them very much to cut the KC track shorter, but I know very well that me wanting it, or posting it here doesn't mean that it will happen. Yet, when someone posts, it's because they are either looking to vent their frustrations or seeking out opinions that helps them look at the issue through another intellectual perspective. So in light with their intentions, telling them not to watch is not helpful at all.

Third, "don't watch it" doesn't contribute to the discussion in anyway. The point of a forum is to air and discuss matters in a civilized way. If I post something, that doesn't sit well with you, then point it out and engage in a civilized debate about it. Telling me to stop watching the track or the show doesn't fit with the purpose of a forum at all.

I'm not singling any individual or blaming anyone. I personally find this response pretty wasteful and I'd like for us to hopefully change that. I'm very much open to hear other perspectives.

Just my two cents.

Very sensible post!

People don't seem to realize we are sharing an opinion on something common we do "WATCHING MADHUBALA" . if we can't come to this forum to complain, support, or talk about the show where can we go. Sometime we have people who agree and sometime we don't, simple.
Does not need a rocket scientist to understand the purpose of Forums? 😆

Is it me or have people in general become sensitive? 😆

I agree! People have become overly sensitive! I think alot of times, people have taking the "no bashing" idea a bit too far to basically fearing disagreements and arguments!!

I agree. Thanks for making this post. I get beyond irritated with that response.

I mean seriously if they don't like the post then don't read it. It's as simple as that na.

Mods of IPK forum have actually put out a rule not to say that. Hope mods put it our here too.

Nahh as much as that comment irritates me I wouldn't want to make a rule against it! I generally believe in little interference from dev team and to allow the forum to self-regulate.

That's why I made this post. Hopefully people who post such comments would naturally see why these comments are not useful and change, rather than forcing change through regulation!

Such comments annoy me too unless the post is clearly a bashing post than just a frustration/criticism/opinion

I don't get it. We can't all the time praise the show. This forum is for discussion. If we can discuss about how great the show is. We can also talk about our displeasure if we don't find it good enough.

Nice post and an important one. Thanks:)

I agree with you @tm.. there is a very skewed understanding(if there is at all) of 'bashing' and 'criticism' ,.. in fact there exists no distinction between the two in the minds of many. its sad then when such people call for people to be 'positive' by being 'appreciative' ALL the freaking time.

Now that would be a detrimental thing for all on all levels.. I support people sharing all kinds of views on an open forum like this.and hope people learn to be tolerant towards opinions that aren't congruent with their own.:)

So sensible and much needed post! It should be obvious to even the most clueless person that no one is watching telly with a gun pressed against his or her head. Of course you don't HAVE to watch it! You also don't HAVE to eat sweets or listen to music or fall in love but sometimes you do and if it is less than what you had hoped you might even (gasp!) say something about it.

I have wondered also, when did it happen that people could not give their opinions in a measured way and expect a reasonable, lively debate? If they are so sensitive as to be blown over by the slightest wind of negativity, they will be shocked afresh every day. Bashing is cruelty and unwarranted hatred. Simple discussion is an exchange of views. There is quite a difference.

Thanks for post!👏
