We all know that the overseas collection is not considered when the BO decides the status of a BW movie...like if its a Flop, Hit, BB, ATBB etc...Do u think its fair...to totally ignore the overseas collection...
i know its how the BO rules are...but don't u think its high time to change that rule??
Lets take the example of two of the biggest ATBBs...
3I made 385 cr...world wide and 202 cr in India which means...that it got a whooping 183 crores from overseas...which is almost the same as ETT's domestic collection...
ETT made 186 cr domestic and 306 cr wordwide...which meand ETT made 120 cr overseas...
Do u think that such big amounts should not be included while determining the status of a movie??
When the movie makers make movies today...they specifically target it for overseas audience too...they promote it overseas too...recent example ...SOTY which I think was promoted overseas more than in India...the reason being that the producers know...that this is not the 50s and 60s anymore when u hardly had Indians overseas...but today...i guess the Indians overseas watching the movies are almost the same in number may be even more...
I know...any rule made in India drags on and on...shouldn't the rules be updated when they lose their significance??
So please vote...lets see how many of u agree with me??😛

The thing about overseas collection that is often overlooked is the fact that overseas collections are GROSS collections, not NET. After you take out taxes, theatre costs and other taxes they're barely 40% of the reported figures. The Indian figure is always NET though.

Regardless, I agree a films true business should reflect the overseas business but NET.

Yes because I and so many viewers fall into this category 😛

Jokes apart I think the total collection of a movie should consist both domestic and world wide. Honestly I didn't know they omit overseas collections for BO until I read your post Blue-ice. Is there some sort of a valid reason for that move?

I don't have any idea??...The only reason I can think of is that these rules are really old...maybe from the silent era😆...and overseas collection didn't matter then...
Even i learned from this forum how the status of a movie is determined...😆

You are correct that its from old age rule. When overseas market was not well developed and amount they collected from oversees was minimal compare to domestic collections.

But today if you see only top 5 to 7 films of big stars films, collect more than 10 caror nett in oversees. While films like Barfi, Khaani,VD,PST are Hits only based on domestic collection. So probably they still don't Add overseas collections to decides the hit or flop .

I don't really care. I hope the success of the movie is judged by the acting performances rather than BO figures.

If success is judged by that criteria then Salman Khan would be the most unsuccessful actor in Bollywood.
On the topic, yes its about time that BO collection of oversees should also be considered. Our money is not a piece of paper...its a hard earned money and should be considered while determining hit or flop.

I agree with the highlighted part ...but its a matter of principle...if the overseas audience has contributed even one rupee towards the movie...it should be counted towards the status...its not fair that BO will not take into account the crores and crores some movies earn overseas...how can the status be fair...if the total collection has not been accounted for...

well i would love if they can do that but it doesn't seem a constructive thing to do!

as we all know different countries have different censor boards and some might object to a movie leading to fall in its over-seas collections like with ETT! it was banned in pakistan and i am sure had it been released there, its worldwide collections would have seen a massive rise as people were just insane in Pakistan to watch that movie and on eid there people mostly watch movies- BG was houseful in pakistan for 2 full weeks! i am sure ETT would have been even more!

so in a nut shell- considering all this banning of films in countries due to their subjects etc makes it an unfair criteria to give verdict according to worldwide collections! it should just stick to domestic!
