"What I hate about Mallika is her body. She should work out! Can't be flabby and not in control of her limbs!" – Rahul Bose
By IndiaFM News Bureau, September 15, 2006 - 04:00 IST

PNC's Pyaar Ke Side Effects releases today and the lead pair of the film Rahul Bose and Mallika Sherawat get into an interactive conversation mode with each other. This is loads of fun. Read on…

Mars VS Venus. What is your personal opinion on this continuing battle between the sexes? Can a man and a woman ever be on the same page at the same time?

Mallika Sherawat: Well as long as men believe and accept that women are better than them in every walk of life and a superior species then yes, absolutely! The golden rule is that women should walk ahead. Men of course, can follow!

Rahul Bose: Hmm…perhaps. Possibly when they are in love. Genuinely, the dnas are a little different, the wiring's a little different---sooooo...

MS: So Rahul tell me, about Pyaar Ke Side/Effects and your first thought on acting with me…
RB: Well, I did PKSE this was the wittiest, most romantic comedy I have read in my whole life! Saket Chaudhary, the director, brought the script to me and did a narration…I just loved it! Then I heard that PNC is producing it and that the producers were thinking of casting Mallika Sherawat. I thought to myself, Mallika?? Then I realized that if you were in the movie… is character ko thoda sa alter karna padega. That's when the clash between Delhi and Mumbai happened. So we made some changes and worked some stuff in and it shaped up beautifully!

Then when I met you, I said ok—I had never seen Murder or Khwahish—and for me it's always the 3 rule test. My co-actor should be humble, hardworking and must have talent and comic timing. You had none of these qualities! But PNC paid me a lot of money and so I did it! Ha Ha Ha….so over to you…why did you decide to do PKSE?

My co-actor should be humble, hardworking and must have talent and comic timing. Mallika had none of these qualities!
MS: First, I loved the script! Secondly, I was tired of playing the sex diva, sex bomb, glamour goddess! I was looking to do a girl-next-door kind of role and break away from the shackles of my existing image! An image that the film industry has given me! I was tired of it. PKSE was the perfect opportunity to do something different and I'm glad that PNC and Saket thought that I could carry it off! And I think I have. Besides, when I heard that I was being cast opposite you, I got scared. Rahul Bose ka naam sunte hi…I thought to myself…how am I going to even understand what this man says or even have a conversation with him??? I mean, you are the type who uses all these big words, is horribly intellectual, boring, mainly arty-farty! How was I going to get through an entire film with you? But I must say that seekhne ko bahut kuch mila mujhe. I've learnt so much just being around you! Through it all, I just kept my fingers crossed prayed that things would work out. Can you imagine--I had to tolerate you!!--and it wasn't easy. But I did it. Successfully that too!

Rahul Bose is the type who uses all these big words, is horribly intellectual, boring and mainly arty-farty!
What is the one thing you loved about each other? And the one thing you loved to hate?
MS: What I love about Rahul is that he was very patient with me. Wherever, whenever I walked the wrong line or slipped up he would guide me—gently. Also, we had great chemistry! Truth is, and I can say this on national media, I've kissed so many co-stars in so many films--but you, Rahul, you are the best kisser ever! Evidently you practice a lot! Infact that kiss we share underwater in the film, you kissed me so hard, I fainted!!! The bad stuff-- you can be very moody, you don't help me with big words, you still haven't read hamlet to me like you promised you would! You know you must…

I've kissed so many co-stars in so many films but Rahul is the best kisser ever! Evidently he practices a lot!
RB: Of course! What I loved about MS? In my 35 years in Mumbai city, she is the most down to earth person I have ever met. No pretenses, no acts---she's surprisingly, actually quite shy! When one can tell a co-actor exactly what one feels, and I could do that with you simply because I knew that you wanted the film to be a better film. Aah…what I hate about you is your body. You should work out! Can't be flabby and not in control of your limbs!

What I hate about Malllika is her body. She should work out! Can't be flabby and not in control of her limbs!
MS: Why are you still single Rahul? Honestly…
RB: You know it's strange. In a world where there have never been more cool, vulnerable, intelligent, funny, independent women…I just fail to find the right person. I have no issues or mental problems with dating or relationships---apart from you of course who is so attracted to me, it's embarrassing!! But seriously, I'm cool about love…but it just hasn't happened yet. I haven't found the right person. What about you? Are you single?

MS: Yes.

RB: How come Mallika? I mean, every single man I have met in my life after PKSE was announced has said…man she's so hot, she's super hot. So why are you single?

MS: Abhi tak aisa koi ladka nahin mila jo laddoo banayega…lassi pilayega…pair dabayega…who reminds me of my Haryana days…who'll take care of me. In fact, if there's anybody out there, please let me know…I'm single and ready to mingle!!!

RB: Ok, here's something that nobody knows….MS is the most well read person in the Indian Film Industry on the theory of acting and film making and screen writing! So tell me, what's you cinema like? What kind of movies do you watch?

MS: I like the more realistic kind of cinema and of course on a more selfish note, more women-centric cinema. Stuff like—Evita, Monster, Boys Don't Cry---Hilary Swank was fantastic in it!

RB: If you were to watch PKSE without being in it what would you think – is it pro-women, anti-women?
MS: I think PKSE is a very real-to-life film. It's the kind of film that couples will watch together and then jump up in their seats and say…hey this is just like us! In that sense it looks at relationships honestly…there's a little bit of every woman and every man in it—a little bit of every relationship in it. It's a passionate relay of where relationships and love is today.

RB: True! I saw the movie last night and I realized that given all the talk about men being commitment phobic, PKSE is actually a very pro-love, pro-relationship film!

MS: But you must admit, in the game of things….CRICKET IS MORE IMPORTANT TO MEN THAN LOVE AND MARRIAGE!!! I just don't get that! I mean come to think of it, in the beginning of the film, poor Trisha (my character) goes down on her knees and asks you to marry her but what is your reaction??? Why are men so insensitive?

RB: Not insensitive---they're just plain scared!!!

MS: Rahul, why are men so scared of commitment?

RB: The truth—we've heard it so many times---and it's true. Men have been customized to being sexually predatory human beings. The question constantly thrown at us being--how many women can we take to bed?--how many women are we attracted to? So when you think of marriage…it means the end of all that…the loss of one's machismo! That's scary!!

RB: So what's your take on marriage and commitment?

MS: I think it's a beautiful relationship if you can find the right partner. Commitment is very important. And fidelity!

Ok—And your individual take on romance?

MS: On a film set discussing a scene---you're such a fool…couldn't you see it?!

RB: Anytime, anywhere--probably a day when the sun is out, a slow breeze is blowing--when 2 people can sit and talk and laugh with each other---I think that becomes a

wonderful thing.

Your favorite song in the movie and why?

MS: Pyaar Karke Pachtaya! It rocks! It's apt for this film and for most relationships worldwide. I love the words!

RB: I like the other one: Dil Todke Na Ja—the techno qawali. It's got great energy, a great groove, is beautifully shot and has an enormous club vibe! Also, I dance in the video…quite a first for me.

Your favorite scene in Pyaar Ke Side/Effects?

MS:When Trisha proposes to Sid. It's the finest scene I have ever seen. She's down on her knees, with a rose in her hand—asking the man she loves, to marry her. No ego, no pre-conceived notions about a man proposing---nothing. Never in the history of cinema has a heroine done this! Just brilliant! The second is when Sid and Trisha are getting intimate in her father's house in Delhi and as Rahul struggles with her lingerie, Trisha's dad walks in on them….it's a killer of a scene! I mean can you imagine if that ever happens in real life?

Never in the history of cinema has a heroine gone down on her knees, with a rose in her hand—asking the man she loves, to marry her.
RB: It happened to me once…except it wasn't her father…was mine!

MS: No!!

RB: Yes! Well my favorite is the 'Superhero' scene where the three men, Ranvir Sheorey, Aamir Bashir and I are wondering why men are so scared of commitment and marriage and Ranvir asks us if we've ever heard of any superhero being married? Neither Superman, nor Batman, not even our own home-grown superhero Shaktiman are married. Can you imagine what it would be like if Superman was on his way to rescue New York City and en-route the wife called him and asked him when he was coming home and whether he'd shopped for veggies on the way or not?! Accurate stuff there and a rocking scene!

MS: (Sarcastically) I loved your scenes with Baby Doll Vol. 3! Nice!

RB: (Laughing) Yeah right MS!
