At the dinner,

G: DM, where is Maan?

DM: he called to say he will be late and will dine outside

G: oh! Lata bring Angel for dinner

L: ji

DM: Geet have you had a fight with Maan

G: no DM

DM: he was sounding a bit annoyed on the phone

G: I too wanted to ask you the same thing, since the morning he is behaving irrationally

DM: something you said

G: no, he did not even talk to me since morning and today he had breakfast even before I came downstairs

DM: he was in a hurry

G: maybe some meeting

DM: maybe

But DM thought otherwise, she was sure Arjun's phone had made Maan behave like that, she pledged to talk to him when he came back.

Geet was very happy, she looked at the points she had jotted down for tomorrow's meeting with the lawyers, she will ask Maan to accompany her, maybe his mood revives on her birthday, maybe he is planning something for her 21^st birthday, maybe.

She slept peacefully waiting for a new day dreaming about Maan surprising her on her birthday by proposing her.

At about midnight,

Maan came back looking all messed up and in a sore mood.

DM saw him entering the hall and heading for the kitchen, one look at him and the old lady knew that he has not eaten anything. She went near him and patted his shoulder, he was startled

M: DM you are still awake?

DM: yes, come sit I will serve you dinner

M: I told you DM I will eat out

DM: you could never lie Maan, sit down

M: DM I am not hungry

DM: I know, come sit

She forcefully made him eat his favorite pasta in red sauce.

After that she gave him a concerned look

M: I am ok DM, a good night's sleep will do me good

DM: Maan, why don't you propose Geet tomorrow on her birthday, she will be very happy

M: no DM, this is what we think

DM: this is true

M: DM what she needs is independence

DM: and how do you know?

M: since Arjun called and told her that tomorrow she will gain control over the trust, she is being very happy

DM: did you ask her?

M: there was no need to, I heard her saying to Arjun, that finally she will have her own money which she can spend as she would like to

DM: did you ask why she needs the money?

M: independence DM or what?

DM: may be she has some other plans

M: no DM, you are just hoping over hopes, tomorrow she will get that money and thriving business and slowly she will realize that she no more needs our protection and then she will move out, take Angel with her, she will go away DM, go away

DM: Maan you are overreacting; you are just being insecure

M: yes DM I am insecure, I am on the verge of losing her and I am not able to do anything

DM: then tell her how much you love her, before she makes some other plans

M: no DM I will not

DM: why?
M: I don't want her to reciprocate my love just because she is obliged, just because she feels complied to agree with the person who has given her daughter her name

DM: then what do you want?

M: I don't know DM I don't know

DM: Maan you are …

M: DM please I want to be alone

Maan went to his room all confused and insecure; DM sighed and prayed for him.

Next morning at the breakfast table

G: good morning DM

DM: good morning Beta, Happy Birthday

G: thank you DM

Angel: Haapi biday Maa

G: thanku beta

She saw Maan descending the steps and she held her breath ready to accept his wishes,

M: good morning DM (his face evidently showed lack of sleep)

DM: good morning

M: good Morning Geet, good morning Angel (he leaned down to place a kiss on the child's cheek)

Geet was disappointed that he did not wish her, but she chose to ignore it

G: good morning Maan

While having the breakfast Maan just took juice, Geet talked to everyone, she was very happy, and this further darkened Maan's mood.

G: Maan, we have to be at the lawyers at 11 am, Arjun Bhai will reach there directly

M: I am busy; you go in your car

G: but Maan how can I go alone?

By now Maan had raised from the table and marched towards the study

Geet hurriedly gave Angel's plate to Lata and ran after him

Once inside she repeated

G: how can I go alone?

He handed her a file

M: this is your file, Arjun asked me to give it to you, take this they will need it

G: what is more important than this appointment Maan?

M: yes I know it is important for you, but what will I do there?

G: it is such a big day for me and you are sending me alone

M: you will not be alone, Arjun will be with you

G: but you will not be there

M: look Geet I have a life beyond you also, I can't always baby sit you

Geet felt as if the sky will fall, she was startled

G: Maan what is more important than this?

M: you are not getting it, this is your life, your trust your case, why should I accompany you? I am not your body guard. You have Prithvi for that and stay assured he will be there

G: but you will not be there?

M: be practical Geet, one day you will have to handle all this alone,

G: alone??

M: yes alone until you find some guy to marry and then if you choose he can look after all thius

G: find a guy to marry?

M: yes Geet, someday you will find someone you will want to marry

G: until then

M: don't even think I will play an accountant for you

She was very hurt, she felt dizzy, she needed something to hold herself, she leaned to the wall for support. Her whole world seemed to have shattered.
