^^^^in my comparison to exams, im referring to the perperation vs. the end result. It doesnt matter how spontaneous you are as an actor, its irrelevant when you have a bound script.

And really? U cant think of any movies in which she wasnt natural? I can think of a dozen from the top of my head and im sure Desigal can too. 😆
But shes still better than alot of her contemporaries.

I've burried her 2002-2003 era deep into the far recesses of my memory.

Here's the thing.
I dont think Kareena needs prep as much as she needs a director to just reign her in and give her proper guidance.

The perfect example is Shakun. Have you seen Ek Main Aurr Ek Tu?

I have no doubt that Kareena is spontaneous, her expressions look the same in every movie, she never brings anything new

I beg to differ. An intense focus, perhaps unncessary, but focus and preperation def help the performance (im not talking abt BO results, just performances). Its like taking exams, someone who attends class vs, someone who attends class and studies. The end result is there for everyone to see.

Kareenas talented, no doubt abt that, but shes also mediocre and over the top 70% of the times. That 30% is whats gotten her the rep as a fine actress. And because i know shes capable of much more, it peeves me when i read abt how her directors and choreographers rave how little time she spends preparing for her shoot. Too bad she doesnt take my advise 😆

I agree.
I have done both. intensely focussed to the point of obsession and sometimes studied just the day before exam. Both of them are not sure shot. sometimes they work sometimes they don't. With intense focus sometimes one tends to loose the centre, become more tensed and with so light preparation offcourse we know why. A healthy balance of hard work, preparation and spontaneous action is the key I think. Kareena does not need to do it like Aamir, But it would surely help if she does not rely on her natural stuff all the time and does a little bit of preparation.

Balance is the key

Sometimes going by your instinct and not prepare yourself to the last degree for a role can be better. A lot of too-much-practiced-and-rehearsed performances can seem incredibly fake, very mannered, artificial and even go over-the-top - like a mimicry/impersonification than portraying real human emotions. Some people just have the God-gifted talent to get into any role and Kareena has it in spades (when she's on form).

That said Rani to me is the better (and more natural) actor and her hard-work and dedication shows, despite her recent lackluster film choices.

Judging from the promos, both Kareena and Rani outshined Aamir. Of course I am yet to see the film. 😛

"That 30% is whats gotten her the rep as a fine actress."

I judge an actor based on the good performances he/she gave and not the bad or the percentage of good vs. bad. For instance I'd value an actor who gave one incredible performance after nine duds more than one who gave ten back-to-back decent, but not great, performance. Of course that's just me. I rarely watch the trash movies/performances and the good ones are the one that stays with me anyway. So giving even one unforgettable performance works for me than giving back to back decent but forgettable ones.

True.Aamir looks very ordinary in front of Rani and Kareena in the promo songs.
