What kind of equation do you share with your son, Abhimanyu?
I'm friendly, but strict. I expect respect. He told me about his first girlfriend and wanted me to help him buy her a gift. I know practically everything that happens in his life. It feels wonderful. As a kid, he was extremely possessive. He would get angry watching me on the screen and ask, 'How can you be there? You are supposed to sit beside me'. He once yelled at my co-star, who had to shout at me in a scene.
Is he possessive about you?
Yes. And even I don't want him to get married early. I don't want to be a grandmother so soon. Also, he'll have to divide his time between me and his wife (laughs). I want him to explore his life first.
Will you be comfortable watching your son doing intimate scenes?
It's part of the job. If you are uncomfortable, it will show on screen and that would make you a bad actor. I chose against intimate scenes, because the discomfort would show on my face. If he is uncomfortable, he should say no right in the beginning. He can't sign a film and refuse to do what is required later.
Do you plan to launch him?
I couldn't plan for myself, how will I plan for him? We own a production house and have made movies, but it is too early to decide what he wants to do. If there is a subject that appeals to us and him, then maybe, yes. He is just 22.
How do you manage to look so young?
The credit goes to peace of mind and happiness. I do what everyone does — exercise, yoga and eating right. I don't diet, because I am a foodie. I workout only for 45 minutes since I can't manage beyond that. Though I don't like fried food, I love chocolate and cheese.
When you look back, do you think marriage could have waited?
I wouldn't suggest getting married at 19 to anyone. You end up becoming too mature at a very early age. I couldn't enjoy my youth. Suddenly I had more responsibilities than I should have had. And probably, that's why my parents didn't attend my marriage. There was a lot of pain and anguish, because you want them to be there. I missed out on a lot of things.
How did producers react to your demand? Did they back out?
I guess I lost out on a lot of projects, but my marriage mattered more. I just hope Himalaya realises it. I would like to do films now, as my kids are grown-up.s
Does your daughter show interest in acting?
That was probably when she was eight. They have focussed on studies after that. Both of them have been athletes in school. We really haven't talked about her career, since she is just 17.
