Here are the movie reviews for Rush:

Ratings:2/5 Reviewer: Taran Adarsh Site:Bollywood Hungama

RUSH could've transformed into an invigorating tale, eye-catching, soul-piercing take on ambition, aspiration and salvation, but it meanders into the predictable zone after a great start, giving you the feeling of dj vu on several occasions. The writing is markedly foreseeable, with the screenwriter opting for the predictable stuff. However, a few individualistic sequences do stand out, but they are few and far between. There were seeds of a riveting thriller, but the plot hangs loose at various critical and decisive junctures. There's a glimmer of hope prior to the climax, with those moments getting a grip of things, but the culmination is tame, quite a letdown. On the whole, RUSH looks like a rushed job. It could've been an interesting take on ambition and aspiration, but it comes across as a half-baked product.

Ratings:1/5 Reviewer: Rohit Khilnani Site:Rediff

Quite a few filmmakers seem to be fascinated by the television media business. But whether it was the Amitabh Bachchan starrer Rann or Emraan Hashmi's latest film Rush, none of them even get their basic facts right.Emraan Hashmi plays his part with honesty but it doesn't look like his contribution will save this film. After a series of hits and critically acclaimed roles this one will do no good to Hashmis' rising career. The shooting style in a lot of scenes and even the songs with spot lights on actors gives the feel of the 1980s cinema. We cannot recommend Rush.

Ratings:3/5 Reviewer: IANS

Far-fetched, yes. But Rush has its adrenaline rushing moments in the second half when the narrative picks up momentum and moves steadily towards a climax that is not entirely edge-of-the-seat. Emraan as the backbone of plot performs decently. He has more speaking lines and less kissing to do here than in all his recent films. Whether the verbosity actually translates into something substantial or not is debatable.Rush has the bone though not enough meat to make for a juicy fare on the excesses of television journalism. It leaves you wondering what director Shamin Desai would have done with his film making career had he lived.

Ratings:1.5/5 Reviewer: Mayank Shekhar Site:Dainik Bhaskar

This one seems to be set in an alternate universe, where laws and police don't exist, and television ratings rule the world. The film could seriously work as a bleak view into a disturbingly scary, fictionalised future. Except, it's set in the present, and in the present, as we know, there are about 800 TV channels in India, of which a majority are news stations, none of which make big bucks, if they make any profits at all. When the film eventually reveals the dangerous practices employed by his TV station, you may wish to laugh. But you don't. Because this is an Emraan Hashmi flick my brothers. No one walked into the theatre looking for a story. They want sex and Sufi songs. There is no sex. There are lots of Sufi songs. Damn, what's the point then

Story: Ambitious Samar joins a crime-news channel as top gun - to discover his employers committing crimes. Can Sam rush away?

Movie Review: First, the good news - Rush has an interesting plot and great detailing, the latter unusual in Bollywood. Such detailing - irregularly placed photos in Samar (Hashmi) and girlfriend Ahana's (Ghatge) home, favourite coffee mugs from which media tycoon-types sip their whisky, a T-shirt cheekily promising 'Endless Vacation' landing a billionaire in jail - add heft to this tale. Crime journalist Samar loses his job over a 'shooter ka shocking sach' from hired gun Prince (Sharma). Sam's seduced into joining 'Crime-24', owned by Roger Khanna (Pancholi - looking fresher than he has in decades, making money from, as he says, 'kir-minals' merrily 'voi-lating' rules), run by Lisa Kapur (Dhupia) offering him crores - if Sam doesn't broadcast how crimes Crime-24 'breaks' are actually committed in-house.

But sacha Sam rejects Crime-24 - and all hell breaks loose, Ahana (who sells paintings with the helpful tip, "It'll look beautiful in the house") abducted with killers dispatched to pack-up Sam. How Sam fights back forms Rush's fun, as do moments like a boss shouting, "This is a news channel, not an old age home!", policemen visibly annoyed with pesky reporters asking if they're letting off andhere mein teer, even Pancholi mouthing cliches about how dus mein se aath log sitar-vaadan nahin, triple murder dekhna chahte hain.

But there's bad news too - no amount of lip gloss, nor shiny suits can hide poor acting, which Rush features plenty of. Not one actor bites fully into their role, Hashmi mostly mechanical, the ladies lovely but blank. You fully empathise when Sam, shooting for a breakfast cereal ad, is pleadingly told by the director, "Sir, please, more feeling ke saath!" In the second half, Hashmi does wade into the deeper end, exposing a criminal-media nexus - but after too much waffling with cliches, it's too little, too late.

Still, while not the relentless thriller it could've been, Rush offers some slick seconds - the tie-tweaking Sam's face evolving from reporting news to becoming it, Gurgaon's glitz, Pahargunge's grunge, Dhupia's luscious trenches and form-fitted skirts. But despite all that, Rush lacks zip - plus, Hashmi doesn't kiss.

So much for adrenalin, dude.

Movie Review: Rush

Cast: Emraan Hashmi, Sagarika Ghatge, Neha Dhupia and Aditya Pancholi

Director: Shamin Desai

Once in a while there comes a movie that tends to have a drastic effect on you. Rush is one such film. It will give you a splitting headache which has a long-lasting effect. From the word go, Rush is senseless, over the top and as boring as can be.

The movie takes us into the big bad world of the media where cut-throat competition is the order of the day. If news isn't discovered, it's concocted in boardrooms. Emraan Hashmi plays Sam Grover, an ambitious crime reporter, who vouches to serve truth on a platter to his audience. Call it the inevitable or plain clich' but Sam finds himself in the centre of the media mess. All hell breaks loose soon after he starts work for a media baron Roger Khanna (Aditya Pancholi).

Rush takes itself too seriously. The movie positions itself to be a serious drama with media corruption as the core subject. But it miserably fails on all counts.

Thanks to zero research the film has a wafer-thin plot and a galloping sub-standard screenplay which makes this movie seem like a big mess. Abrupt intrusion of dance numbers between scenes and age-old editing gimmicks like the split screens, fail to add any value to the viewing. Innumerable scenes injected with bad acting at times turn into a ham fest and at other times make for unintentionally funny moments.

Rush is Emraan Hashmi's weakest film. If Dibakar Banerjee's Shanghai was his shining trophy as an actor then Rush is the other extreme. Add to that, Emraan's loyal fans will be mighty disappointed as their kissable star doesn't have a single decent lip-lock in this film. As for the songs, which his films are otherwise famous for, are lacklustre to say the least.

Neha Dhupia plays the sophisticated and sexy, hell on high heels quotient. She looks the way she's supposed to but she has nothing to offer in the film, except trying to bed Emraan (which doesn't work too). Aditya Pancholi is the character that provides us with a few laughs, unintentional of course.

Rush has all the elements to not let you sleep. It has an unnecessary thumping background score and over-the-top dialogue. So if you decide to go for this film, do yourself a favour and carry along a crocin strip. That might just help.

INDIA TODAY

Rush is about the clutter in the news channel business and how a crime reporter gets embroiled in the big bad world of the business of news. The Editor-in-Chief of a crime news channel where scribes endorse products and cops abuse reporters for not giving them information that they need.

Clearly the research gone into making this film is minimal.

Crime reporter of Pulse 365, Samar Grover(Emraan Hashmi) interviews a sharpshooter and soon gets sacked because the expose sends ripples in the organisation and upsets the investors.

Enter Lisa(Neha Dhupia) who runs Crime 24, a rival news channel. She offers Grover a job and pays him a dream salary with lucrative perks like a plush house and even a BMW. Crime 24 is owned by Roger Khanna(Aditya Pancholi) who has personal business interests in the channel's growth.

There is more to Khanna than meets the eye; he is ready to make his channel number one at any cost. He even arranges an in house system with which the channel can tap the phones of cops. Grover is soon dragged into Khanna's bad world of crime and then starts the chase to escape.

In the end Grover wants to expose the bad guy Roger Khanna so he goes back to his old turf Pulse 365 and soon gets Khanna arrested. Grover's long speech in the end only drags the film further leaving no impact.

Emraan Hashmi and Neha Dhupia do their bit but one wonders as to what drew them to do this film. Sagarika Ghatge gets a raw deal with a small role as Emraan's love interest.

Pritam's music is below the mark and the camera movements are outdated. Editor-in-Chief is seen singing and dancing, which makes it unrealistic.

This is the most amateur attempt to make a film on media business. Watch news channels which at least give something more sensational then the Emraan Hashmi-starrer Rush.

Why can't filmmakers, who make movies on the media, get their basic facts right, asks Rohit Khilnani, in his review of Rush.

Quite a few filmmakers seem to be fascinated by the television media business. But whether it was the Amitabh Bachchan [ Images ] starrer Rann [Images ] or Emraan Hashmi's [ Images ] latest film Rush, none of them even get their basic facts right.

In Rush, cops walk into a news channel office and get hold of a reporter in the canteen and abuse him because he refuses to give them the information of a sharpshooter who he recently interviewed. Have we ever heard of police walking into news channels and abusing and insulting reporters?

Samar Grover (Emraan Hashmi) is a crime reporter, who is asked to leave his news channel Pulse 365 because of his big expose, an interview with a sharp shooter that has caused some trouble with the investors of the news channel.

He is soon hired by media tycoon Lisa (Neha Dhupia [ Images ]) of another channel Crime 24, who offers him a high salary, a car and the post of the Editor-in-Chief of the channel. Crime 24 is owned by Roger Khanna (Aditya Pancholi), who believes 'Bad News is Good News'.

From his lifestyle and working style, soon it gets clear that Khanna is not a straight guy, he is only using Samar to achieve his personal goals.

To get high TRPs, Khanna has installed some gadgets inside the news channel office which tap the phones of the police, no less! And that's how Crime 24 gets the news before everyone else.

Clearly no one told the makers that there are a few things that channels in India [Images ] cannot and do not do, whether for TRPs or business. Grover, who is the editor of a crime channel, is also seen endorsing food products.

Emraan Hashmi plays his part with honesty but it doesn't look like his contribution will save this film. After a series of hits and critically acclaimed roles this one will do no good to Hashmis' rising career.

Neha Dhupia looks pretty and does her bit.

The rest of the actors are wasted.

The shooting style in a lot of scenes and even the songs with spot lights on actors gives the feel of the 1980s cinema.

We cannot recommend Rush.

Movie review: Rush
(Thriller)
Indo-Asian News Service

Cast:Emraan Hashmi, Neha Dhupia, Aditya Pancholi, Sagarika Ghatge
Director: Shamin Desai

Ouch, the TV channels won't be flattered. Rush, like Ram Gopal Varma's Rann three years ago, rushes into the cut-throat world of TRP-driven competition among news channels where news, if not discovered is created in the newsroom. So RGV told us in Rann.

And now late director Shamin Desai's Rush takes us into the ostensibly murky chatroom politics of news channels where news-baron Roger Khanna (Aditya Pancholi, unintentionally hilarious) gets reporters, civilians, politicians and criminals bumped off to make news. Just like that.

Far-fetched, yes. But Rush has its adrenaline rushing moments in the second half when the narrative picks up momentum and moves steadily towards a climax that is not entirely edge-of-the-seat. But certainly the popcorn on your lap is likely to ignored for a bit as ambitious crime reporter Sam Grover (Emraan Hashmi) gets sucked into a web of crime created by his over-reaching dangerously-connected boss.

Rush is not the first film about a young ambitious professional losing moral and ethical equilibrium to attain success. Recently, we had Kunal Khemu in Blood Money and Paoli Dam in Hate Storyreaping the bitter fruits of their savage harvest.

More closely, Rush resembles Goldie Behl's Bas Itna Sa Khwaab Hai where Abhishek Bachchan got trapped into a glamorous web of grime by media baron Jackie Shroff. Sushmita Sen had played the suave chic assistant to Jackie who took Abhishek under her sexy wings.

In Rush it's Neha Dhupia, every bit as suave and chic as Sushmita, playing the media baron's right-hand woman who gets too close to Emraan for comfort. And yes, they even share a furtive kiss in a long-shot to ensure Emraan's hardcore following doesn't commit suicide.

Rush does have its sluggish chunks in the storytelling. But the narrative gathers strength from the basic plot structure where a television journalist is shown to be on the run. Some of the chase sequences are expertly done. And the whole theme of the newsmaker's descent into compromised journalism makes for some riveting moments.

While many of the characters are sketchy, some like the sharp-shooter (played by Murli Sharma) who befriends our journalist-hero provide the plot with a spicy if not completely pungent propulsion.

The entire episode after the murder of Emraan's journalist-friend Rikin (played by TV actor Alekh) makes for absorbing viewing.

Emraan as the backbone of plot performs decently. He has more speaking lines and less kissing to do here than in all his recent films. Whether the verbosity actually translates into something substantial or not is debatable.

Rush has the bone though not enough meat to make for a juicy fare on the excesses of television journalism. It leaves you wondering what director Shamin Desai would have done with his film making career had he lived.

Rush' more satisfying than Rs 100 crore film: Emraan Hashmi

Emraan Hashmi's film 'Rush' released Oct 26 to a lukewarm response, but for the actor, it remains a special film

He says the movie is much more satisfying than his other hit films as he managed to fulfill the wish of its original director Shamin Desai, who died earlier this year.

"A journalist sent me an sms saying only 20 people are sitting in the hall for your film. So I replied, 'I feel more victorious in this film ('Rush') than even a Rs.100 crore film because I fulfilled a dying man's last wish'," the 33-year-old said here in an interview.

Desai, the original director of 'Rush', died in January 2011 after announcing his maiden directorial venture in 2010, originally titled 'Raftaar 24x7'.

Later, his wife Priyanka Desai re-announced the film in October 2011 and titled it 'Rush'.

Emraan says 'Rush', in which he plays a crime journalist, says the movie is a mission accomplished for him.

"Shamin, a friend, a colleague whose film could not be completed for almost three years and a production company that was in the doldrums... (so this was) The only way to kind of salvage this and kind of give to his wife and family and give him the due. He had worked so hard on the film and I wanted to release it and for me it's mission accomplished," he said.

For Emraan, its been a successful run at the box office so far, with movies like 'Jannat 2', 'Shanghai' and 'Raaz 3'.

Talking about the dynamics of the business, Emraan says technically his films have proved to be bigger money spinners than other Rs.100 crore films.

"A film making Rs.100 crore doesn't mean anything if it has been made for Rs.80 crores. You just make Rs.20 crore profit. But when you have a film like 'Raaz 3', which is made for Rs.10 crore and it clocks in close to Rs.100 crore, then that is much more than another film that makes Rs.100 crore," Emraan said.

"So, people don't see the business side of it! They only know the figure - Rs.100 crore. But then it doesn't mean anything. It's always in relation to how much money you put in the film. I think the media needs to club that in also. Technically, I think my films have made more money than other Rs.100 crore films," he added.

Emraan's forthcoming films include 'Ghanchakkar', 'Ek Thi Daayan' and 'Unglee'.
