It's true the 10 handed Mahishasur Mardini is mostly restricted to Eastern Indian folklore. Also the fact that we depict Lakshmi and Sarasvati as Durga's daughters is because Durga is deeply rooted into the Bengali culture. People attach Durga visiting her parents equivalent to how any daughter visits her maternal home with her children. Kartik and Ganesha has always been her sons so to equate and have a complete family picture she is depicted as having 2 daughters. Both daughters however cannot be an ordinary woman hence the 2 consorts of the other 2 divine trinity are depicted as her daughters.

If you all see the durga mandap in any pandal, you will notice somewhere Lord Shiva's pic is there. You will notice that his whole form is never shown. My nani told me why. Shiva keeps peeking in every day to see how the Devi is treated at her home with lots of delicious food, bhog and ornament 😳 but on the last day of Vijaya Dashami when we bid adieu to the goddess the bhog that is served to her is just dahi-chura or chura mixed with water which is common man's food. When Durga goes back, Shiva asks her that she has come back with loads of pampering. Durga tells no I just had chura 😆 Shiva says nope I peeked and watched everyday hehehe😛

How sweet. I don't know about this. Thanks for sharing.

It was interesting to read the detailed version of the story of Mahishasur and devi.
The story revolves around Lord Shiva that is why the focus is more on him and less on Devi Shakti. But it is still very enjoyable.
