I have to change my tune after watching 'Lage raho Munna Bhai' yesterday.
It takes basic idea of 'Oh God' (and of course from 'Good Moooorniggggggggg Vietnam' and then takes it a few notches above the original.
Screenplay was much more interesting than original. Steller perfoemances by everyone right down to Diya Mirza, Jimmy Shergil and Parikshit Sahani - and great technical aspects. Using a total unknown as the best-known character in the movie was a stroke of genius and the actor does better than Naseeruddin SHah as Gandhi ji. Arshad Warsi is one of the best if not the best comedic talents we have had in last 25 years. Way underrated.
The idea of using the most revered figure in history to do comedy with a couple of drunk gangsters could be disasterous.
In many nations it would have been a cause for riots and violence. It really shows how far India has come in 60 years as far as maturity of average people that a film maker can attempt something like this and succeed.
LRMB was the most satisfying movie (and a surprise at that) since Lagaan.
