Part 5

The whole day, Geet ignored Maan like hell after he get back home. She stayed in her room most of the time and only came out to get her food and was again locked inside.

"She don't even want to share a meal with me now" Maan questioned himself as his eyes were looking at the closed door...he was hurt badly with her actions and ignorance. Never in his life till now she ignored him, not even for her namesake three boyfriends, she had in the collage.

"I think I risked my friendship for love" Maan run his hand in his hairs as he leaned back on the sofa and sigh loudly. He stayed in the position for sometime before he get up and went to his room. The hunger he was feeling from so long now was resting aside and another night, he went to sleep with an empty stomach.

He got up in the morning only to find out that Geet was already off to university. He came out in the living room and flinging his legs on the couch, lay down on it as he switched on the tv. He was bored and not even in mood to take his breakfast. He flipped through the channels for sometime before his cell started to buzz while laying on the wooden table placed beside him. He took hold of the phone to see an unknown number flashing. Raising his brow, he picked it up to hear a female voice on the other side.

"hey..." he heard the chirpy voice and that deepened the frown on his forehead

"ummm...hey...may i know who is this??" he asked as politely as he could

"you are Maan right???" the girl asked him with a hesitation hoping that Maan hasn't fooled her by giving a wrong number

"yeah, thats me..." Maan reply made her took a sigh of relief

"its me tanya...remember yesterday we met...in the university" Tanya tried to make him remember herself when Maan has just already guessed who this Tanya was

"i have a good memory tanya" he replied with a grin...that made her giggle

"i thought you all men are same...you just remember a girl when you need have a reason" she said in a teasy tone

"well i m certainly not from one of those men..." Maan replied honestly now coming in a sitting position

"Umm...I was thinking if you might be free today, we can go out somewhere..." Tanya asked with hesitation

Maan think over it for a minute... Will Geet be angry with him after knowing that he went out with someone else...A thought run in his mind before his heart argued that when she herself is not in mood to see your face, then why are you hoping and thinking of her and without taking another second, he simply answered. "Yes"

"Ok cool...Give me your address and I will pick you up in sometime" Tanya said almost jumping in her room and note down the address quickly on the note pad

"Bye" Maan said and sigh, rubbing the phone on his lips, once again thinking if he is doing right or not...

"But you already said yes...so better get up rather than backing out now" Maan said and after grabbing a sandwich, he went into his room to get ready.

Maan has started going out with Tanya from that day. She was a nice company and Maan thoroughly enjoyed it. She took him out to many places in Virginia. From old historical places, to Richmond zoo where they feed many birds...She took him to Virginia beach and also Virginia aquarium that was a fun experience. They use to roam around, taking lunch from the road side food trucks. Maan used to forget the heartache Geet gave her few days before in her presence, but as soon as he will get back home, all old memories will attack his mind and will make him feel devastated.

Geet was sitting on her bed. Books were scattered around her and a pencil was constantly moving in between her fingers. She has an assignment to submit the next day and was almost done but right now, her mind was diverted to another thought.

She was observing Maan's distracted behavior from few days. He has stopped coming to her to ask for forgiveness or to make her understand his side of reasons. Yes, He played with her, her feelings...But was he that wrong in his actions?

She get out from her thoughts on hearing the screeching sound of a car stopping by. She flinched on the sound but decided to ignore that for now when the distant sound of Maan made her get up from the bed. She came out in the living room and through windows, look outside to find Maan waving at someone.

"Good night Maan" the girl's voice reached her ears that got her alarmed.

"Good night" Maan shouted back before the car moved away and he turned towards the door.

Geet didn't want Maan to know that she was keeping an eye on him, and it was too late for her to rush back to her room, so for now, she hide herself behind the curtains of the living room that was fully dark at this hour of the night.

Maan moved the key and open the main door only to find the darkness completely taking over the room but the tiny light peeking from her's ajar door quickly got her attention.

"She is still awake??" He asked himself with a confused look but Geet was able to hear that.

Maan closed the door behind him as his feet lead him to her room.

Geet's heart was beating furiously in her throat seeing him moving towards her room as she too get out from behind the curtains and took small careful steps, behind him

"What will happen if he gets in and don't find me there?" she questioned herself biting her lower lip. Her anxiousness grew with each step that Maan took towards her room. His hand was about to touch the door and Geet closed her eyes not knowing what she should expect there.

But he stopped. And she too stopped and hide herself behind the kitchen door.

"I shouldn't disturb her...Anyways, she is not in mood to see my face...so better not bother her" Maan murmured softly and then turn to look back at her room door. He lifted his hand and caressed the door with a feather light touch.

"Good Night Geet...Sweet dreams" He whispered before turning to get into his room.

Geet's eyes filled up seeing this caring and lovefilled side of Maan. Her heart was feeling so heavy seeing the depressed look on his face and for the first time, she was feeling drawn up by him.

"Good Night Maan" She whispered before she heard the click of the door that Maan just shut. And that was the first night when Geet realized, how miserable Maan is feeling just cause of her. She willn't let him suffer anymore. If not love, then she can give him back the friendship they used to share. She promised herself and quickly completing her assignment, she went to sleep with a smile on her face.

The next morning, she get up early due to the ring of her mobile. It was Misha who called to inform her about an extra class they had to take before there usual classes. Geet quickly took a shower and collect all the things for college before going out. Maan's room door was still closed.

"He is still sleeping" Geet sighed as she wanted to talk to him the first thing today and want to see him smiling once again. But it had to wait a little.

She called the car lift guy to pick her up early and in the mean-while took her breakfast and made for Maan too. She wrote a small note for Maan and stick that to micro before running out to get into her taxi.

Maan got up quite late in the day and has just freshen up when Tanya called him.

"Hey Tanya...Good Morning" He wished with a sweet smile as he came out from his room in a white vest and grey trousers

"Good Morning Maan...Hey I need to ask you can you get ready in 15 minutes...so i can come and we can go out for breakfast somewhere. I need to tell you something" Tanya said hesitantly.

"Yeah sure...I will be ready" Maan got that there is something serious that she wanna say

"Ok...See you" and she cut the call before Maan can wish bye.

"Weird" he mumbled before he turn on his heels and get back again into his room to change.

An hour later, He and Tanya were sitting in a small coffee shop sharing few sandwiches and hot coffee's. There was a strange kind of silence between both of them. While Tanya was arranging few things in her head, Maan was sipping his coffee while his eyes were deeply fixed at her.

She was awfully quiet throughout the ride to this cafe and now, after placing order, she was still the same.

"OK tanya" Maan said giving up on this See and Guess Game as he put his cup on the table, breaking that ice cold silence

"Tell me what it is so we can get over with this awkwardness between us" He sounded a bit irritated now

Tanya bit her lip before she gathered up her courage, and looking straight into his eyes, started.

"Maan, first promise me...You willn't get angry after hearing this or go off breaking our friendship..." She needed an assurance now...

Maan was confused. What could be this huge that can break there friendship now...

"Tanya...stop beating about the bush...come to the point yaar" Maan moved forward his hand and placed it on her's, providing her strength, she needed now.

"Maan...My friendship with you started because of a bet..." She said feeling guilty "But, now its so precious...I don't wanna loose it" She added quickly with the fear of loosing a friend

"Bet?" Maan was shocked a little on this revelation

"Yeah...You know Samar, right?" She asked hopefully as Samar and Maan were in the same courses. On Maan nod, she continued

"I love him from last two years, but he never care for me more than a friend...On the university party, we came together but soon he left my side to join few other girls...You don't know how it feels to see your love getting in the arms of some other person" Tanya said in pure anguish now and how can Maan tell her, that he perfectly knew how that felt

"This jealousy is such a weapon...One of my best friend advised me that to check if he is either interested in me or not, I should also date some other guys...And that night, you turned out to be a perfect guy, whom i can trust upon seeing the way you lead your friend into that party and made her comfortable...That's each girl wish you know" Tanya said with a proud look when Maan just wanted to laugh sarcastically on his ownself. PERFECT GUY...MY FOOT

"So I asked him about you and he said that you are not my type of guy...and I take it as a challenge to prove him that I am not someone to play with...and after that fight, he placed this bet that If i could get friends with you in two weeks, he will call himself a loser and the other way around for me...But you can't believe, on knowing that we became friends and spending so much time together...He got so jealous that yesterday, after i reach home, i found him sitting on my door stairs having beautiful bunch of roses and said that he love me and can't bear seeing me with someone else" A different kind of glow took over Tanya's face as she was giving a dreamy smile. Maan smiled seeing her like this and nudge her hand.

"Come out from your sweetest dreams now" He chuckled seeing her getting red with embarrassment

"You aren't angry that I played with you" Tanya asked with hopeful eyes.

"No...Not at all...you found your love...that's a great news for me" Maan said with a genuine look

"And for you...what is good for you?" Tanya asked next.

Maan give a funny chuckle at that thought and look away before looking back at her

"I am a one woman man...and she will always stay the one for me...No matter how much i need to wait" Maan pour out his heart. Tanya looked at him in awee and covered his hand that was holding her's with another one.

"And I wish, you will get her soon" She had a pretty good idea who that girl was, but didn't want to interfere.

"Thanx" Maan whispered while in heart, saying AMEN to her pray

"OK, lets go then" Tanya said with a warm smile..

"Yeah...but can you just drop me home right now...I am not feeling like having a day out today" Maan requested

"Yeah sure...But first, I need to go to university to submit my forum as its close by...I was serious when i said i am going to take an admission there" Maan laughed at her statement and agreed to go with her as she paid the bill and they left.

The car entered the premises of the university and after parking it, Tanya turned to Maan.

"Wait, it will just take me 10 minutes" She said and get out

Maan was not feeling like sitting inside so came out and stand their, leaning against the car, not knowing that Geet has seen him entering the university with Tanya.

So tanya became maan's friend only coz of a bet...and unknowingly this bet is going to work even for maan...geet will definitely come to him after seeing him come into uni with tanya and then him not eating the breakfast she made...
