i think the magic was more AB than KK- that song by itself is zilch without what AB brought to it. the guy looked like he had spent a lot of time hanging out at paan dukans. 😛 😆

Suna hain..banaras ke paans mein ek alag hi baat hain...

but that song if it was sung by anyone else..it wouldn't have sounded the same, AB or no AB..

I haven't yet heard Udit's version, but am sure it will not be anywhere close to Kishore'das version....

But again, 'Khaike paan' is not one of 'the' songs of Kishore'da for me, so will not be as disheartened someone else even trying to attempt it..

i never cared for the song till i saw the movie and for me it was all AB. there's another "keeda" song he had in some movie. same effect. the song was trash IMO. but AB made it memorable. gotta give it to the actor salesman in these cases.

fwiw, even though KK and Rafi are my idols, they too have had a lot of songs i dont care for... Same as someone may be a grandmaster but they too draw/ lose some games😛 (someone cld do a thread on these bombs)

Obviously Kishore da.

It is magic which was created by a perfect person on screen with a perfect voice in play back.

Imagine AB singing that song in his own voice😳 or Sudesh Bhosle doing an imitation or any other singer - Naaa the magic is all gone.

Close your eyes during the song and you can almost see the face of AB and feel the voice of KK.
