She will never change and the Rathi parivar has given up trying to change her. I think they wanted Suraj to read the letter alone so they made Sandhya stay back and he gets enough time to assemble his thoughts. It was clear from the beginning that except for Bhabasa and Suraj the others were either indifferent or plain jealous of Sandhya's achievement and not at all enthusiastic about the award function.
