Amit Behl replaced Aman Verma in Hotel Kingston

Today's Hotel Kingston (Star One) episode might have had Aman Varma in it, if everything had gone according to plan.

The episode features Amit Behl in the role of Navneet, a Suhaib Ilyasi-style journalist, out to trap a middle-aged rock star staying in Hotel Kingston. The pop star is shown to be a boozer and a womaniser.

Varma, recently embroiled in India TV's sting operation controversy, was the original choice for Navneet's character.

I was replaced

Varma does not hesitate to admit he was offered the role of the journalist. "I had no issues. In fact, we had talked about the dates and the money. All was well. I was simply waiting for the final call to shoot. But it never came.

Then I read somewhere that Amit Behl was doing the role. Maybe the production house or the channel feared some controversy and decided to cast Amit in my place."

My calls went unanswered

Aman says he tried getting in touch with show producer Sagar Productions.

"I called Pramod Kapoor (executive producer for Hotel Kingston). He was the person in touch with me when I had been finalised for the role. He did not take my calls."

We could not wait for Aman

However, Kapoor has a different story to offer. "We wanted Aman, but he could not give us dates. Our shooting schedule had been planned and we could not wait for him. Hence we had to go for someone else. I never got any call from him that I didn't take — I don't know why he is saying this.

The producers have never had any problem with him; he was earlier part of the Sagar show Aarzoo Hai Tu, and I'm sure they would love to work with him in the future as well."
