this question makes even more sense with the current unrests in london now.............. all that the britishers are aware of, is that the bombers are asians. they dont even know how to differentiate between the various asians. has anyone in london faced racism after these blasts and all?😊😊😊

Yep there is racism. When I first came from India, I found it very difficult in schools here 😭. I have had friends in my school who have faced a lot of racism too..like last year this Indian girl in my school was made fun of and stuff by a bunch of preppy girls. This other asian girl dropped from my history class after the first day because of the racist comments of classmates for being an asian...our whole class got yelled at after the girl dropped our class by administratives.

I haven't faced any racism yet, I hope not too! But if I ever do, I will never sit down and cry but stand up and be strong and dignify myself!

yea aparna di i am also waiting 4 their replies b/c i enjoy reading what they have 2 say

so far i have not faced any sort of racism (hopefully i never will). ive never expected 2 face any racism b/c of being "brown/desi/southasian" bcus there are a lot of us here. But after 9/11, many people i know were victims of racism because of being a Muslim. Lucky enough, i didnt face any such problems. What is funny is that it took place in NY and we were faced with the least bit of racism while people living in other more "conservative" and "white-dominant" regions had this problem ( I know of a few families). Racism seems to be more popular in Europe (esp. UK and France) i dont know why but ppl from there seem 2 experience it more than we do. Another reason for not facing any such issue is that New York City is one of the most culturally diverse cities in the world so who are you going to discriminate against?

So far, I too have not come across any blatant racism, but at times, I have felt an under current of resentment among a few stiff upper lips oldies.

Recently we went on an apartment hunt where we met a number of old women coming in/going out of the building. Not only they did not smile in return of the courtsey smile we give everyone here, their stare was positively unnerving. It was almost as if we were invading their private space. Turned out that the property consisted of 80% of the old, who had moved in after downsizing from their house on account of old age/ loss of companion etc.

Their stare has a distinct look of 'U don't belong here'. I might be wrong, but it was a bit unnerving even to feel that way. Other than that, I have never faced a thing. People in US are one of the friendliest people on earth.

So far I have not faced any racism in US.

I think racism is seen more in schools and teens. I think kids can really be "monster". They are not mature enough like adults and most of the time don't have enough security and parents don't get much time to spend with them. Specially, after 9/11 people's attitude have changed for sure. They think that these brown immigrants are not good. Most of the population do not have full knowledge about "browns" from different countries and different religion and that they are all not bad. Due to strict policies at work and government control situation is different at work. People are educated, and are expected to stay in their limits and discrimination can be seious cause. I have heard about racism more in UK.
