Indian Idol's Dhaka concert is a hit
Like Indians, Bangladeshi people were also infected with Indian Idol bug. Bangladeshis have a soft corner for light and sweet music, which is there in tons at the show. Indian Idol is a desi version of American Idol that is being aired at Star World whose last year winner was Fantasia Barrino. Many Bangladeshi did not miss any of the 'Indian Idol' show( popular Indian television programme). Enthusiastic Bangladeshi stars and television viewers remain glued to their television sets and vote equally eagerly to pick their favourite voice as the winner. The Indian Idol was declared on March 5.
Among the Indian Idol contestants-Avijeet, Rahul and prajukta came to our country on 14th July and they gave a series of live performances in Dhaka and Chittagong. They returned on 19th July. Antara Showbiz an event management company organised the event. The first show was held in the Chittagong Club this evening. The shows in Dhaka was held at Gulshan Club on July 15, at Uttara Club on July 17 and at the Winter Garden, Hotel Sheraton on July 18. They also performed at the King of Chittagong Community Centre on July 16. Their team had 14-members.
Of course, the most obvious form of interaction between singers and their fans are concerts. Because fans see singers as such a "big" celebrities, their performances become how they figuratively makes a direct connection with their fans, and they appreciate this. The stage setup was quite impressive in its size and attention to detail.
Concert tickets were a highly valued commodity: sold out at Tk.3000 and Tk. 5000. The proceedings of the ticket sales went to the Rotary Club for a noble cause. The concert showcased Avijeet, Rahul and Parjukta's phenomenal dancing skills and their sweet voices. They were about one and half an hours late on stage. But when they came on it made things all worthwhile.
The atmosphere was electric as Prajukta came on the stage at first. She wore orange coloured top and black coloured skirt. She sang 'Mehbub mera mehbub', 'Maan sats samundar', 'Mera nam chin chin chu', etc. Rahul sang 'Har ghari badal rahi', 'O Mahiya' and so on. Then came Avijeet. Avijeet got the loudest roar from the onlookers. He played some songs like, 'Bhigi hoto pe tera', 'Mohabbat lutaunga', 'Oh lamhe oh bate',etc. Rahul wore a black blazer during the opening numbers. Then he wore a black sleeveless t-shirt, saying 'It's to hot here' and then he wanted to throw his blazer to audience. But finally he didn't, saying funnily: it's expensive. Audience burst into laughter at his humour. When female audience shouted at 'awo, aoo' he commented on how the male singers become happy when girls do this massive roar. Then Prajukta, Rahul and Avijeet jointly performed 'Kajra re kajra', 'Pia tu ab to aja' and so on.
"It was hard to believe that Avijeet was touching my hands. When he came on the stage is was just incredible! He looked at us right in the eyes and smiled and pointed at us several times," said Tanya from Gulshan. " We waited and waited patiently for Indian Idol to grace our shores and they did not disappoin," said Omi from Sylhet. Such was the hype surrounding the concert.
It was a huge success. They performed in front of thousand fans last night at Sheraton Hotel in Dhaka. A few fans going crazy in Sheraton Hotel. Both of them put on a superb performance. Indian Idols were overwhelmed at the audiences' responses.
