VirMan – Their Journey Against Cancer [Part 10]
With Viren bhai coming to VirMan's rescue (yet again), Dadaji understood the depth of Viraat's love. He had truly become a better person. He had grown up and had matured and now was old enough to take up his own responsibilities in life. He agreed to VirMan's relationship and the Vadhera clan headed to Hrishikesh to invite their next daughter-in-law to their family.
'Kya kehti thi tum Dadaji ko? Mogambo!'
'Toh main mogambo hun? Hahaha.'
The Vadheras asked for Maanvi's hand in marriage for Viraat, and although Beeji was a little skeptical (like she always is) BadiBeeji took things into her hands and readily agreed to their proposal. VirMan's roka was announced to be held the very next day and both families departed, hurrying to finish their side of the rituals.
'Maanvi...'
'Kya kar raha hai mere bhai? Roka hua nahi hai. Control. CONTROL.'
They chit-chatted into the night, unable to believe the sudden turn that their lives had taken. The day before they had parted ways, and now they were about to be engaged. Yesterday there had been no hope, and today they could see the light shining through the darkness. So it was true. Life is weird, and sometimes, completely out of the box.
'Thodi respect karo meri, tumhara hone wala husband hoon afterall.'
'Oh! Mr.Husband. Husband ka matlab pata hai aapko? Has-has ke band bajaana. Aur main apni puri life tumhari band bajaa ke rakh dungi Viraat.'
The roka was held the next day, in a relatively quiet yet fun-filled event. She was dressed like a delicate doll and looked nothing like the angry sherni Viraat had met 10 months ago. He had always looked like the prince charming of the 21st century but the difference in his appearance now was the pure light radiating from his face; the sheer happiness that now radiated from his eyes. He was truly extremely, unbelievably happy.
'Ajeeb si baat hai. Jo ladki hamesha itni masti karti thi, sabse shararat karti thi, aaj wahi ladki, mere saamne dulhan ki tarah sharmaye hue khadi hai.'
Now that they were officially about to be Mr.&Mrs, he wanted to explore the benefits of being her to-be-husband. Benefits that would probably have been denied had he been just her boyfriend. For example, their first kiss?
'Tum mujhe ek chhoti si, pyaari si, cute si, kissy de do.'
'Haww. Kissy!'
Even though she pushed him away playfully, her heart was aching to experience her first kiss, from her first boyfriend, who was also about to become her 'hone wala husband afterall'. She closed her eyes, and relaxed herself, placing her bare soul in front of him. He could do whatever he wished to with her right there and he knew he wouldn't be denied. But he loved her too much to exploit the trust she had placed in him. So he kissed her lightly on her forehead, and thus began the saga of the VIRMAN KISSIES.
She was surprised, yet satisfied that Viraat too felt the same way as she did. He too believed that the wait would be worth it. So why not give him the kissy he had been asking for? It wasn't a federal crime now, was it? And besides, if he could surprise her by not kissing her on the lips, how could she be far behind? Viraat and Maanvi had always been equals. The competition to stay at par with Viraat would always remain, even after 50 years of marriage. So she rushed forward and gave him a swift kiss on his cheeks and ran away, blushing and smiling, because her surprise had obviously been the better one.
Their nok-jhok continued as they prepared for their engagement. They fought like kids and flirted like first-time lovers. They smiled and laughed and blushed and giggled. They were finally basking in the glory of the love that they had been denying to themselves and to the world for such a long time. The love that had blossomed from their first meet. The love that had remained pure and untainted ever since. Cancer had temporarily been given a bye and happiness had finally said hi.
'Toh tumhe meri tareef sunkar jalan ho rahi hai?'
'Arrey... Main kyun jalunga yaar?'
They fought a little more and flirted some more. They danced like hell and they sang their heart out. Time had stood still for while, as they enjoyed every moment of that wonderful beautiful night.
'Ab toh maine likh kar bhi de diya. I love you. Khush?'
'Kya khush? Maine tumhe itne pyaar se I love you bola aur tumne ek silent movie ke hero ki tarah likh ke I love you bola. Bolne mein sharam aati hai kya, Viraat?'
They were finally, officially engaged. They were no longer each other's in-laws, they now belonged to each other. To show the world, their relationship had just begun. But to them it was just a formal ceremony to exchange rings. Their hearts had been exchanged for a long time now. He had already promised his heart to her and she had given him hers, long before either of them had realized it.
'Ab toh hamari engagement bhi ho gayi hai. Thodi si value toh karo meri.'
'Aaj ke zamaane mein kaunsi patni apne pati ki value karti hai? Yahaan khade hue saare patiyon se puchh lo, unki kitni value hai.'
