Toronto welcomes Sridevi back
The curtains were drawn, the intros were made and the stage was set for the return of one of Indian cinemas original divas, Sridevi.
Dressed in a stunning Sabyasachi contrasting light and dark green Sari, she looked every bit the diva we remember her as being. After a 15 year sabbatical and what seemed like the perfect buildup of anticipation, excitement and eagerness - Sri was back, just like that from off screen to onscreen.
It was a family night as Sridevi's husband, Boney Kapoor and daughters Jhanvi, Khushi joined her for her big comeback night.
Right from when she stepped out of her festival escalade to walking onto stage after being introduced by the artistic director of the festival, Cameron Bailey - Sridevi had the audiences at every step, it was like she had never left.
Seeing the outpouring of love from her fans an overwhelmed Sridevi told Filmicafe on the red carpet that she was extremely touched and almost felt like crying.
Well, she wasn't alone. She had the audiences cheering, laughing and crying along with her as she became Shashi on screen in Gauri Shinde's English Vinglish.
The night ended well past midnight as a standing ovation accompanied the rolling of end credits and princess wave in return from Sridevi herself for every yelled out compliment in her direction.
Right at the start and then again at the end, fans chanted "Thank you Sridevi for coming back," and "We love you Sridevi." And we couldn't agree more, Thank you and welcome back Sridevi.
