After waiting for over seven months, actress Vaishnavi has filed a complaint with the Cine and TV Artists' Association (CINTAA) for non-payment of her dues. The actress, who plays Meera in the Sony daily Ek Ladki Anjaani Si, claims that she is yet to receive her remuneration for December 2005 for the popular show.
The daily, launched in November 2005, was initially produced by Shrey Guleri's Prime Channel. Later, Sony roped in another production house (Sheel Kumar's Shreya Creation) for the show, eventually leading to Guleri's exit.
Double-crossed!
"Prime Channel was the show's producer during the month of December, and they are yet to clear my dues," says Vaishnavi. "As I shot for it almost daily and it is a huge amount, I have been running from pillar to post for the money. Every time I ask Prime Channel for it, their standard reply is that Sony owes them a lot of money. Everyone knows that I shot for them daily; they can watch the tapes of December to know that I had worked throughout the month."
She further alleges that the rest of the cast was given post-dated cheques, except her. "Why was I singled out and not given my cheques?" she asks, fuming.
Not cordial anymore
According to a CINTAA official, "Vaishnavi has approached us. Such cases are resolved internally between the producer and the artiste. We put forward the actor's case to the production house. We cannot spell out any more details at this stage."
When we contacted Prime Channel for their say on the issues, we were told that Guleri has been out of station for the past few months. Rakesh Luthra of Prime Channel who is also the production house's legal advisor says, "It is an alleged breach of contract as her services were exclusively with Prime Channel but she still shot for other shows. This case is subjudice and I would not like to make any further comment."
Incidentally, Vaishnavi has worked with Prime Channel earlier in their Star Plus show, Dekho Magar Pyar Se. "I have always had a cordial relation with them. In fact, it was they who convinced me to play the mother's role. I was not too open to the idea of playing a mother in a non-Balaji soap. I even gave them the slip twice, but they talked me into doing the drama," says Vaishnavi, who also features as Ishita in the Balaji daily K Street Pali Hill and on the big screen in Ravi Chopra's Babul.
Vaishnavi is also slated to sing an Indi-pop number in Cochin with musician Sunny Vishvanathan as a new career move on September 9, which is her birthday.

Her real name is Rebecca. She took on the screen name of Vaishnavi because of her mixed parentage. Her father's a Vaishnav Brahmin (the reason she became Vaishnavi), while her mother is Catholic. She is married to Leslie Macdonald and has a young daughter Margaret.
She began acting on the big screen with Raj Kanwar's Laadla and was later seen in Bharat Kapoor's Barsaat Ki Raat and Vikram Bhatt's Bambai Ka Babu, which had Saif Ali Khan as her co-star.She switched to the small-screen with Shaktimaan (DD) and was seen in Main Dilli Hoon (DD), Dushman (Nine Gold), Choti Maa, Gharana, Chingari (all Zee).
