This is not just about Bollywood, but also includes Tollywood, Bengali, Bihari and other kinds of movies. Do you think that the Indian movie is overrated?
In the scenario of "taking inspiration" from movies and cliched story lines, talent less actor the the concept of originality is lost. I think the movie makers fail to come up with a fresh and entertaining concept now days, but instead focus on copying hit hollywood works. There were times when the movie makers gave us movies like Sholay and DDLJ which have had their long runs, but the movies we get now days does not even come close to these movies. Views?
Now lets talk about talent, do you think that there is any real talent left in the industry? Sure, there are exceptions, but majority of the actors.. with the quality of acting is a big let down. Do you agree?
Do you think the the Indian population is happy with anything and everything shown to them in terms of movies? Or do you think that if they are paying for something they want it to be worth it?

It all depends upon how you rate an industry? If you rate it on audience appreciation then I believe Bolly is not overrated and is doing great. If you rate it on quality of movies then yes it does lack compared to lets say Holly. However then Holly has much much more resources and more advanced technology so some of it greatness is that also.

If you objectively analyze Bolly not keeping other lollies in mind then I think this industry is not overrated and doing fine. What matter is that is audience happy? Later with more resources and with audience wanting more quality movies it will improve further.

What I am trying to say is that one should be judged based on its audience, the resources avilable and the environment and if you look from that point of view then bolly is not overrated. anyway there is no right answer on such questions anyway.

I was expecting that you will say that, cos I've read the same thing somewhere else as well.
However, I disagree. I've seen Sholay, I've seen Magnificient Seven and I've seen Kurosawa's Shichinin No Samurai (Seven Samurai) whose English remake is Magnificient Seven.

In Seven Samurai/ Magnificient Seven, a group of villagers visit the city to hire seven samurai/ gunmen to protect their village from an impending attack by bandits. In Sholay, the Thakur hires two ex-convicts to protect his village as well as apprehend the bandit for his personal revenge. The similarity starts and ends there. I don't think that's a great lot of similarity.

Okay thanks. Maybe that is why they used the word inspired.

I've heard it was Guns for San Sebastian

Even Hollywood movies are inspired from books, musicals, comic books, TV shows, cartoons, real life etc.

Lets look at this week's holly box office. lol.
Chances are, you weren't at the movies this weekend. Not a single film at the box office reached $10 million. Call it the curse of "The Oogieloves." The Top 12 films grossed a depressingly low $51.9 million ' the worst Top 12 total since Sept. 5-7, 2008, when Nicolas Cage flop Bangkok Dangerous led the chart with $7.7 million and the Top 12 films earned $50.3 million.
Summer at holly

LOS ANGELES -- Studio executives expected their biggest summer ever this year as they loaded their lineup with huge action movies and superhero franchises. What they got were two colossal blockbusters, a handful of backup hits and plenty of duds that just didn't deliver, resulting in what may prove the lowest summer movie attendance in 20 years.

I am only saying that each industry should be rated on its audience, resources and environment. The masses in India probably go to cinema to watch senseless comedies or to see their favorite stars rather than sophisticated movies. Thats is the demand.
If you see from that point of view bolly is not doing bad. It has given bol bachan, agneepath, housefull, ek tha tiger, rowdy. And there are always few hits and more flops at any specific time. Thats not a surprise.

Bollywood movies suck big time. They are the same darn thing over & over again. I don't understand how their movies become such big hits ! I guess it's because Salman, Aamir, & Shahrukh have so many fans ! But everything else is just a copy of the west.
