My family and I live in the US, and my father has been irritated with the recent track, saying that it's unrealistic and that extremists like this don't really exist. Sadly, however, I was just linked to this article on Facebook that exposes the ugly truth: that those gundas in SSLK are reflecting an attitude that still exists even in the highest echelons of the police. Disgusting.

https://www.firstpost.com/living/from-the-delhi-police-six-reasons-why-women-deserve-to-be-raped-269957.html

The article is a response to this expose: https://www.tehelka.com/story_main52.asp?filename=Ne140412Coverstory.asp

I think you all should read the whole thing, but here's an excerpt:

"Can any sane, right-thinking person really, really believe that most women deliberately incite rape or invent rape charges?

As it turns out, the online creeps are in good company ' of the Delhi-NCR police. A Tehelka sting aimed at 23 police stations across the NCR reveals a level of misogyny that is not unexpected, but is shocking nevertheless. [Do check out the testimonies of these police officers in detail here. The Tehelka expose is unpleasant but required reading]

Now, I could skewer these attitudes as absurd, regressive, and just plain wrong. But having waded through the testimonies of these men ' who are Station House Officers, not the average havaldar ' I was left shaking with rage and fear. I realised that according to stringent criteria of the Delhi Police, almost all women deserve to be raped. And here's why:

One, she is not in a salwar kameez or sari, at all times

Most urban professional women wear a lot of skirts, jeans, blouses, and dresses. And they usually carefully calibrate what they wear according to where they will be: out on the street or at an upmarket bar/restaurant. But all this effort is pointless because as Satbir Singh, Additional SHO of Sector 31 Police Station, Faridabad, puts it: "Ladkiya jo hai unko yahan tak yahan tak (he gestures to mean that women should cover their entire body, then carries on speaking)' Skirt pehenti hai. Blouse dalti hai; poora nahi dalti hai. Dupatta nahi dalti. Apne aapko dikhawa karti hai. Baccha uske taraf akarshit hota hai." (Girls should be covered from here to here' They wear skirts, blouses, that don't cover them fully. Don't wear a dupatta. They display themselves. A kid will naturally be attracted to her.)

Sub-Inspector Arjun Singh, SHO of Surajpur Police Station, Greater Noida, clarifies the position further: "She is dressed in a manner that people get attracted to her. In fact, she wants them to do something to her."

In other words, unless a woman is fully covered from head to toe ' at all times ' she wants men to rape her."

So totally regressive in their thinking!!!!

Why can't the "decent", "good" men control their dirty thoughts and appetites!!! Why should women be made to pay for these men's "sick" attitudes!!!

Actually its a thought by some of the responsible ppl in our country that the lady who wears Saree and salwar are good the girls who pots to wear modern clothes are not cultured and the ppl think wearing jeans and modern dresses is an open invitation for man to treat that woman to be molested...

no one deserved to be raped until he/she rapes someone else.
its a depressing thing that by every passing day women's clothes are getting shorter day by day. and naturally young children especially boys will start asking question about the private parts of girls. (it actually happens).
yet it doesn't give anyone any right to either threaten or assault a women.
the best the thing which can be done is to establish a dress code for both men and women for certain places and give them freedom to wear what they want at other places.

by clothes getting shorter day by day i mean girls like sherlyn chopra, poonam pandey etc who are shedding their clothes day by day only for attention and the so called liberal media is actually promoting them and inviting other girls to follow in their footsteps. sorry i wrote anything sexist.

Its ridiculous ... women should be allowed to wear what they want to wear, because they have freedom, n a choice, but @ the same time they should also dress appropriately.. .
Men r jus sick in their minds n dirty, they should get their private cut out for rapping a woman. Once its done to one man, many will think of the consequences b4 doing the act. SO come on women.. we have freedom, we have a choice, a right n we have democracy!!!!!

Do not Agree ... most women tht dress with shalwaars are not exactly cultured...girls should wear what they feel comfortable in and at the same time do not abuse it wth too much short dresses

think that girls clothed need to cover up their entire body... Than why the Muslim ladies who wont even show up their hands covering their entire body with burka under go eve teasing and they are also not left from those men...

And nowadays rape has become such a wierd thing ..that when i read in news paper that a 3 years baby girl is also raped and killed,,,, and also the grandmothers who are above 60 are also raped these type of incidents will leave us under shock,...

And should ask those police who gives statements that the clothes what woman wear encourage men to rape a woman...

Than why don't they look at the records that even the below the age of 3 are also not left by those kind of men...

Actually i believe wear what u feel and wish is comfortable on you...

Its actually not the clothes which yields men to commit those crimes... Its the sickening mentality of some of them...
