On 15th of Aug., we(some friends) planned to celebrate the day by watching "Kabhi Alida Na Ekhna." So, went to a nearby theatre. The theatre must be having a capacity of 250-300(not sure) and it was almost half filled. To our surprise(actually shocked!!!!) there were no other Indians in the theatre other than us. Probably because it was a weekday. Believe it or not, all were either Pakistani(ladies had veil on their heads, and you know of course like Punjabis they are good-looking with sharp features, and some loud get-up and make-up), Bangladeshi(they have a peculiar bengali accent), even people from Middle-East(they were not speaking Hindi, Urdu or Bengali.....something kkhhsshh... type) and few Goras.

In the begining, we were really felt awkward. But then at the same time I really felt proud of my country and our Bollywood, which has been able to draw people from other countries with it's immense popularity. People from other countries might hate our foreign policies(which seems to be perfectly alright to us Indians), at least they like something about our country. And for me, what a day(our Independence day) it was to be felt proud of!!!!!

Only thing that was bothering my thoughts was, I went to watch movies in that theatre usually on weekends. Never seen such huge foreign crowd. Why is it so, that they come in such a large no. on a weekday. Is it because weekend is too crowded(then Indians don't seem to think that way) or is it they don't wish to show their affection for Bollywood in front of a majority Indian audience.

Wow Pradashak what a fab topic after a long time and just after our Independence day. 👏

I feel proud that although our neighbours do not agree with us on many political matters (like you said.....Not that it matters to us Indians), but we Indians have so much to offer to the rest of the Asians and draw them to us.

cheers to Bollywood !! cheers to Indian soaps !! Cheers to Indian music !!
3 cheers to India !! 👏👏👏

I knew people from middle east watch Indian movies, but I was not sure about Goras. Nice 😊 .

One time my sister had her white friends over and it's just so happened that they saw the DVD of this Indian movie and they insisted on watching it. So they watched it and loved the movie, but they didn't understand our culture. I can't remember the movie name, but it had love, scarifice ,and respect towards elders and all other themes. They couldn't understand why anyone would sacrifice. They didn't understand why the main characters put other's needs before their own needs?

Thanks Aparna. I really felt so proud and so good that so many non-Indian people have come to watch our movie. Inside the theatre I felt like clapping and whistling(though I am not good at whistling), but remained quite thinking that my friends might get embarrassed.

I have noticed the same for some movies I watched in theatre few years back. My girlfriends and I went to watch 'Main prem ki diwani hoon'(terrible movie) and there were almost equal number of Nepalis, Pakistanis, Afganistanis, Some Iranians and Americans. It shows how popular Bollywood is. Most of my American friends love 'Dil Chahta Hai'.

I agree with you Pradarshak. I have a Nepali friend who loves bollywood movie soo much. She does not know Hindi too well, but tells me thats why they have subtitiles and her son loves to dance on bollywood songs 😆. Also, I went to a wedding for my American friend and groom was from Turkey. There I met his parents and they told me I love Nargis and Raj Kapoor and I was suprised ...they said now we get movies with subtitles and we love it....she loved Awara hoon...song and all those. You are right, bollywood does attract lot of people around the globe.
